Halo is not Rock, Paper, Scissors

You see, rock, paper, scissors takes no skill.

All of the starting precision weapons should preform equally at all ranges, all of the time. The main differences should only be aesthetic. 343, when balancing the DMR/BR, DO NOT make it so that the DMR dominates at long range, and the BR dominates at mid-range. I`ve seen plenty of the casuals on this forum asking for this when discussing how the DMR/BR should be balanced (and they want the AR to dominate at short-range, to boot).

But the player who wins a 1v1 fight should be the player with the better aim, the better strafe, the better awareness, etc. NOT the one who catches the other at the wrong range with the wrong weapon.

All the starting precision rifles should be pretty much equal in capability. And they should all be superior to the automatics (because the latter take less skill to use).

Thank you, someone who has common sense.

While I agree, we both know that’s never going to happen. The entire game is based on the casual audience. So basically everyone else is left by the roadside.

The idea is that all the starting weapons are equally viable and slot into appropriate playstyles.

Not really how the execution works, but thats the theory.

Lol. Make all rifles reskins lol.

> And they should all be superior to the automatics (because the latter take less skill to use).

Lol. That’s balanced for sure…

The weapons shouldn’t be the same, players shouldn’t be spawning with different ones.

> But the player who wins a 1v1 fight should be the player with the better aim, the better strafe, the better awareness, etc. The one who loses should NOT be the one who unluckily got caught at the wrong range with the wrong weapon.

Dude are you serious? Halo has ALWAYS had weapons with niche ranges. People have ALWAYS gotten unlucky and caught at the wrong range with the wrong weapon.
It is called map knowledge, choosing paths which put you at an advantage, and minimize your exposure to the ranges you aren’t equipped to deal with.

This…

It’s like all the people saying “Halo 4 isn’t Halo” have never played a Halo game in their life.

Lol, make Halo an arena shooter again, lol.

Lol, it is balanced for sure. One you need but hold down the trigger and point in the general direction, where the other takes actual skill to use (in theory). Lol.

facepalm

No, it hardly takes more skill to use. You want to stand there and tell me it’s hard to use a semi-auto weapon when the majority of the community uses them and does well with them? And having crutches in the game isn’t balance.

Making Automatics suck at all ranges doesn’t balance anything. It makes them pointless to use and removes weapon variety.

I know, how about we remove every weapon except the DMR and the Rocket Launcher, and we all fight over the rocket launcher on the map. Your ideal game is boring as -Yoink-.

This game is garbage

The way to make the automatics compete with the precision rifles and for them to have a place in the sandbox is to make sure that unskilled players only face other unskilled players.

I 100% guarantee you that in a noob vs. noob scenario, the AR user will beat the DMR user every single time. Simply because the latter does not have the skill to use it at full potential.

Hurp-Durp, that’s why I said in theory. When you have this much bullet magnetism / lag compensation (which helps most of the community do well with them), of course it doesn’t take more skill. A crutch isn’t the precision weapon (minus the things I listed above), a crutch is the AR for the player who can’t aim. I never said make them pointless to use at all ranges; that was you. I said make them not as viable as precision weapons at long ranges (EG: common sense).

Then don’t play my game. I never asked for your opinion about a true arena shooter.

> I said make them not as viable as precision weapons at long ranges (EG: common sense).

They already are worse than precision weapons at long range, what the -Yoink- are you ranting about? Why do they need changed when they are only effective at close range as is?

> Then don’t play my game. I never asked for your opinion about a true arena shooter.

It’s not a true arena shooter, it’s an arena shooter with no variety. The OP wants to make all the rifles basically the same, that solves nothing.

Automatics should win at close range every single time when used correctly. Nobody just sprays away with an automatic weapon in Halo unless they want to die, because there no -Yoinking!- way you can inflict enough damage to kill someone like that. Automatics aren’t substitutes for aiming, they don’t have enough damage per hit for that. Automatics are about tracking your target and knowing when to burst fire and when not to. Spraying and praying with an automatic weapon in Halo is only slightly more effective than spraying and praying with a precision weapon. Your argument is entirely invalid.

You must not play much Halo 4. Nobody burst fires, lol, good joke.

Rock, paper, and scissors does take skills. You have to have an unnoticable pause right after scissor where you examine your enemies hands to see what they are going to choose.

I’m not ranting about anything, you moron. YOU’RE the one who brought up AR range in the first bloody place. After you accused me of wanting them to be useless, I told you that I want them to stay the same. Holy Jesus, man.

Sorry, but no. An arena shooter spawns everyone with exactly the same weapon. Besides, you misunderstand the OP (or maybe I do). If we had a true arena shooter, and the other rifles were pick ups, they’d be fine being different. But he wants anything you can spawn with to be the same, which I agree with.

Is the OP limited or something?

Either that or he’s fresh off of the COD -Yoink!-
