Halo is not about mystery!!!

Every interview and bit of information that I get about Halo 4 says that it is going back to that mystery element that the series is well known for. Can somebody help me out here ?? I found that Halo was always about epic HOLY CRAP moments. Its not really the mystery that stood out to me in Halo games and although I think that Halo: Combat Evolved has got an amazing atmosphere its still not really mysterious. Its parts like the assault on the citadel with two scarabs dropping down and one final effort playing in the back that Halo is all about. I was very dissapointed when I heard the song in the concept art trailer for Halo 4 as it was very mysterious. Please 343 don’t forget what Halo is all about. Anyone agree ??

Halo is has been dedicated around mystery and exploring.

It is not about holy crap moments.

You do not dictate what Halo is and isn’t, and truthfully no one can.

Agree and disagree. I love Halo for both reasons. The first time I played Halo, I remember looking up into the sky and seeing how I was actually on a Halo ring, and what it looked like, and thinking that was so damn cool. Also, the story behind Halo with the Forerunners also intrigued me a great deal, but the action and gameplay also reeled me in as well. Amazing gameplay and mechanics, I was blown away when I first played it and found it to be one of the most fun games I’d ever played.

You see, I like both, and you can have both, don’t worry, there will be plenty of action and epic moments in Halo 4, don’t let the ‘mystery’ side of it destroy it for you, although, this is a major factor that makes it so interesting to me, and keeps me hooked.

I don’t agree when the developers mention a vague idea of “what halo is about”. Considering a game is an experience, and everyone experiences a game differently, Halo is about your personal experiences. If you ask anyone what Halo is all about, your going to get a million different answers. Some will say the Multiplayer is where its at, some will say its forge, its the campaign, its the combat, its the moments. The list could be endless.

You contradict yourself by saying that the game is about mystery and exploration and then say that I cannot dictate what Halo is about. Halo is not about mystery and exploration. Elder Scrolls is about mystery and exploration. Silent Hill is about mystery and exploration. L.A Noire is about mystery and exploration. Sure Halo always had a hint of mystery about it but that was never the main focus. I am afraid that 343 are taking the mystery aspect and blowing it out of proportion with big empty landscapes and space music that just doesn’t belong in the series.

It’s a mystery and must not be spoken of. shifty eyes

I’m already telling you too much, as it i- gets sniped

The exploration part is a bit iffy, but Halo has always had the mystery element to it. CE you were wondering what Halo was, who built it, who was the Covenant, and a bunch of other things you had to find out. Halo 2 was also mysterious, a bit less so imho, but still. A second halo, a gravemind, and the cliffhanger end. Halo 3 continued this and ended one mystery while starting another. The flood gone, the war “ended” anda new threat on the horizon. Reach was the only one without the mystery I think, because you weren’t fighting on an alien planet or construct, and the Covenant just wasn’t a mystery anymore. But yeah, Halo is shrouded in mystery my friend…

halo is all about the mystery. it makes a good story.

I always thought the “HOLY CRAP” moments are just a bonus. Halo is more about mystery.

I cringe every time I hear somebody say Halo has been centered around mystery and exploration.

It’s a difficult thing because unless you played Halo when it came out in 2001, you know what’s going on going into the game.

Halo: CE was a game about discovery. Why is this place a giant ring shape? Why is it like Earth? Where is everyone who built it? What is the Flood?

It’s mystery and solving that mystery through the campaign that sparked the expansion of the Helo universe. Now, Halo 2 and 3 might have weighed more heavily in on the OMG moments because that’s what you need to sell 10 million games.

But Halo’s original pull was the mysterious environment and lack of people within it.

So that’s what they’re getting back to w/ Halo 4. A new place. A new mystery. Something unknown to unravel. And that’s correct. It’s what they should be doing.

In Halo… from what I see… you start off with a mysterious mission or goal, you never really know what you will run into. You go through an epic campaign, learning more and more as you go, and finally end the mystery, (or start a new one), with an epic “Holy Crap” final mission.

CE: Beginning- Battle your way through a new and exciting world while trying to find out what the ringworld is, what it hides, and what it does. (Mystery)
End- You have learned about the ring’s purpose and released a new enemy, the Flood. Its time to end it, time to destroy Halo. (You have learned a lot, and are ready to finish it in a “Holy Crap” mission. Warthog Run mainly.)

Halo 2: Beginning- You return to Earth, get new armor, and go after Regret. You come to another Halo, and it is time to learn what Regret was doing on Earth and what to do with this new Halo.
End- Regret is dead, you learn what the Covenant plan to do, and have met the brain of the Flood. Time to end it. (Epic Boss Fight)

Halo 3: Beginning- The Chief returns, and its time to find out what the Covenant really were after on Earth.
End- You follow the Covenant to the Ark, and go on epic missions to defeat the Covenant without letting them destroy the galaxy. You learn of a new Halo ring being made, and the Gravemind has arrived. Time to end it… for the 3rd time. (Warthog Run at the end, and a mysterious cutscene to start of a new, epic trilogy.)

I would love a new, mysterious Halo experience than an action-packed battle after battle Halo game. I wouldn’t mind it if Halo 4 was a free-roam like ODST. I like picking my own paths.

There’s a youtube chanel called Halo 4 follower.
He gathers every bit of information about halo 4 and posts it.
Info is still limited but at least you a bit more than you did before.

Yeah it was always a mystery. About discovery and the wow moments and action was bonus. What made the first one for was that a lot of the environments was vertical maps. You went deep down into places not knowing what was around the corner. You did a lot of looking up and down at what was around you. You were digging into the msytery. Granted you got lost in the endless repeating corridors but that was a thing of the time with FPS. Still get lost in the annivesary version a little. The games came after that the maps became very wide and spralling. But yeah it is mystery and discovery. Hope #4 gets back to that idea of exploration.

halo is also about shooting aliens. which is good because it teaches us to shoot something other than our selves and wild animals.

Epic holy crap moments began with H3, although there were signs in H2.

Anyways, CE started with mystery and slowly led to those epic moments. The other Halos jump start to the action rather than building up suspense.

CE was such a success because it had a steady pace.

> halo is also about shooting aliens. which is good because it teaches us to shoot something other than our selves and wild animals.

That’s why I play Halo games.

A game without mystery is pretty dull ain’t it?

OP, you clearly do not read the books. They are mostly about mystery. The reason there are “HOLY CRAP!!!1!” moments in Halo is so that you enjoy playing them. We don’t just want to be playing LA Noire now.

But he sounds stupid i have recomened him to some friends and they give the same reply (I cant watch this) its not that i hate him but it seems like he dosent understand what he is holding so to speak. He might be one of the only people doing something on youtube about it but he isnt very knowlebge abou it.(Halo4Follower is what this is about)
