This something that I have noticed since halo 2 or as some may argue Halo 3, but Halo seems to be losing its competitive edge. This is always the reason why I enjoyed Halo over COD, simply put, it took more skill. The incorporation of too many variables such as armour abilities, sprint, and especially bloom, I think is the reason we are losing the competitive edge and the skill required. MLG is losing its grasp on Halo.
What do you guys think?
Personally, i think the bloom was a horrible idea that caused a good portion of this and better not come back in Halo 4. It also just didn’t function fairly or properly when you played online.
> 343 just noted us that halo 4 will be based on halo 3 okay so you don’t need to worry about that competitiveness and your post is kinda late.
If it were based on Halo 3 it wouldn’t have all of the gimmicks present in Reach as well as perks, weapon unlocks, custom loadouts and the rest of the new features that are blatantly being copied from Call of Duty.
Even with reduced or increased skill gap, good players poop on the lesser ones. Even in Reach this holds true (though things like AL, Jetpack and sprint double melees are annoying), in Halo 3/2 and especially CE.
Unless a lot of you are starting to lose to slumber parties, then it could be worse. Though i won’t argue games are becoming more easier to play.

Why? Just because you base the core gameplay around a previous game, doesn’t mean that you can’t add new stuff. BTW the “gimmicks” are only in a percentage of playlists.

Except most of those new things aren’t new stuff. They’re things from Reach, or things that have been put in to attract the CoD crowd. At the “core” of every Halo game is CE. That doesn’t mean the game was based off of CE or plays anything like it.
What the developers state, I believe actually from the vidoc, is that they’re changing the core of Halo as a game series. Meaning that it’s not really going to have the core of any of the previous games, despite it having many or most features from Reach.
Edit: Oh wow. The spam that’s on every thread that talks about competitive multiplayer has actually been edited by a moderator. Is it an eclipse or something?

So you’d think it’d be a better idea to put Halo 3 discs in all of the Halo 4 cases? Wow.

Just because some things are added that don’t seem “Halo” doesn’t mean the overall feel of the game won’t be like halo 3 or any other one in the trilogy. The new things are added to keep it fresh and not the same game every release with new maps, like CoD has become.

Well, the game is confirmed to have customizable loadouts, a perk-type system, unlockable weapons with the only ones on map being power weapons that you must call down or those that have been dropped by other players. As far as we currently know, there are no map pickups such as OS or AC or the likes of equipment. The game also has bloom, recoil and AAs you can spawn with.
Let’s compare that to Halo 3. Halo 3’s typical slayer game, everyone spawns with the same weapon. To get better weapons, you have to find them on the map or kill other players for weapons they’ve found on the map. You can also gain equipment in a similar way you can gain power weapons. You can also dual wield some weapons, which while gives you more fire power decreases your level of accuracy to counter it. Weapons do not have a particularly noticeable amount of bloom or recoil besides the SMGs.
Yeah, I’m really not seeing too many similarities. Obviously they’re still both FPS games but beyond that there’s not too many similarities. I’m not necessarily saying that in order to have Halo 3 at the core it has to be exactly the same, but there are few game play concepts besides that it’s a FPS that are present in both games.
Compare Halo 4 to Reach or Call of Duty however and there will be a lot more similarities, meaning you can’t really say it’s based off of Halo 3 when there’s more similarities to Reach and very few to Halo 3. The only thing they’ve said so far that sounds like Halo 3 is that there will be increased movement speeds.
I agree completely sir but people that started with Reach will argue until the end of time that simply pacing shot’s take loads of skill and therefore bloom belongs in Halo and that oldschool players just don’t like armor abilities because they’re too stoopid to deal with them. So I’ve just given up arguing because they’re all just mindless trolls who are content with a slow talent blocking game.

(So far what we know)
Similarities to halo 3:
high jump hight
faster movement
same health/shield system
power weapons as pick ups
Similarities to Halo Reach:
AA
loadouts
The “Ordinance” that drops the weapons, the custom loadouts, press x to respawn, AA and “Modifications” are only in a percentage of playlists that are most likely more casual. The more competitive playlists will keep a similar play-style to halo 3 aside from AA possibly being in them.

Agreed i also believe bungie/343 changing the ranking system had a big part in the decline of competitive gamers and competitive gaming in general. 343 needs to implement a good ranking system to hold most of there players and keep players playing and not get boring such as playing halo reach

343 didn’t do anything yet, Bungie are the ones who abandoned a decent ranking/MM system, personally I’m more concerned about functioning MM

The thread comes up alot because alot of halo fans want to keep halo alive and keep it competitive and also having halo 4 play different from cod and other FPS’s
