"Halo is dead!"

You know what, Waypoint? We’ve always been uptight and focused about multiplayer in the game sections of this forum, but some days I think we focus too much and get too stressed over that. Halo is a lot of things, not just multiplayer. In fact, multiplayer isn’t the main thing that keeps fans coming back to the universe. It IS a big draw, but the stories in the Haloverse are the main draw. Campaigns, novels, motion comics, graphic novels, machinima, toy sets, anime, movies, the beautiful soundtracks, even newly formed episodic co-op adventures, and so on and so forth. In fact, did you know that the first novel, The Fall of Reach, was actually released BEFORE Combat Evolved? Sure, the game was in development long before the novel was wrote, but as far as it goes for the consumer, Halo was first and foremost a book with a good story, not a competitive multiplayer game. Likewise, I’m pretty sure Bungie never expected for such a passionate and at times rabid community to latch onto the multiplayer. Lastly, you all should think of the aforementioned before you claim Halo is ‘dead’. One aspect of the Haloverse not quite being as popular as it once was surely does not make the entire franchise ‘dead’.

Think about that.

Well said.

I buy Halo not to spend hours playing multiplayer (which I normally end up doing anyway) but to play the campaign. I can’t get enough of the Halo universe, it’s unlike and extremely well told. 343 have not disappointed me in that regard. I can’t wait for Halo 5 and the continuation of the Reclaimer Trilogy.

While for some the universe may be what draws people in, for me it is the multiplayer. Sure I will go through the campaign 1 or 2 times but the only reason I end up getting a halo game are for customs and matchmaking and in both respects 343 killed any and all desire I have to play or to even buy another halo game.

I at least have hope that the books will improve once Karen Traviss leaves. The comics are okay, but I wasn’t thrilled with what felt like the fourth retelling of the Fall of Reach. Why not expand First Strike into a book? Ghosts of Onyx?

Halo is dead??

Quick, who knows CPR?

For me, Forge and Multiplayer are where it is at.

I will forge for Halo 4 still, but not so much as Reach. I will only forge for Halo 5 if I buy it. And if Halo 5 is tied up with the next gen XBOX, then I will have to seriously listen to reviews of the game first. Halo 4 MP has been so terribly disappointing that I won’t be standing in the midnight line for a copy.

If Halo 5 MP is as bad or worse than Halo 4, I won’t be buying it. What good is it to forge to a game you don’t like to play much? I can do that with Far Cry 3 and they have a vastly more powerful and yet very easy to use map editor.

I agree.

Halo’s not dead, it’s just on life support and is in desperate need of organ transplants. Seriously though, Halo needs to get rebooted back to the way Halo3 was in terms of matchmaking. It needs more emphasis on maps rather than armor abilities or cosmetics. In fact removing loadouts all together will bring some much needed balance to game play. I remember a time when you had to fight for ordinance weapons and not have them handed to you for participation. Map control is what made matchmaking great, something Halo4 is severely lacking. Halo needs to keep its identity and not get mixed up with every run of the mill shooter. If people want to play COD, they will get a copy of COD. If they want to play as spartan death machine, then they should grab a copy of halo. Let’s hope 343 doesn’t pull the plug on a loved franchise.

If you were implying halo 4’s multiplayer was worse than far cry 3. ** **** ********

The reason im a fan of Halo is because I loved the story so much, I really enjoyed it and the music that was created to go along with it made my love for the story so much more. But when I played the Halo 4 campaign it was very boring and did not enjoy the story at all. I have no desire to play it again or even multiplayer, Spartan Op’s etc. Nothing on that game holds much replay value for me. I’m not just deliberately bashing it because I don’t like it, it’s my honest opinion.

I don’t get too stressed over multiplayer. I get appropriately stressed over it.

It is the only aspect of the game that I enjoy playing over and over again. In fact, it is the only aspect of the game that anyone can play over and over again.

Campaign is a one shot experience. If that is all there was to it, then why would you have any reason to continue playing the game at all?

Since multiplayer is an “ongoing” experience, it can be an ongoing experience of “I can’t stand this or that…” and thus the appropriate level of stress…

Multiplayer is the life-blood of Halo. Ever since Halo 2 that’s what has kept each game alive and fresh with activity.

If multiplayer dies, the game effectively dies.

While it is true many people play Halo for everything but multiplayer, the majority play Halo for its multiplayer.

So let’s keep turning a blind eye to the fact Halo 4 is the worst game in the franchise in respects to player retention. I absolutely love rooting for one of the greatest video game franchises in history to enter the realm of mediocrity simply because many in this community and the developer themselves are too stubborn to accept reality.

I concur, OP.

I concur with your concur.

Meh, h4 isn’t dead. Let’s face it, justin biebers been dead for his whole career, but people still buy his garbage.

Although i understand your frustration, im willing to give 343 this last chance on the weapon balance and im also interested to see what is the mysterious legendary slayer playlist.

Please 343, dont mess this up. Being said that, i really have hope they will come through for us on this one, especially with Bravo and Quin in there. btw, Thank you to Bravo and Quin’s hard work trying to revive halo to its glory days

We still have awhile til Halo 5 and the new xbox comes out. i want to see what they do. I am hoping for a classic no sprint, loadout, ordance, and other stuff they added like gametype with weapon spawns on the map. If we have that I know the community will be happy.

Omg, halo 3 mm was awesome! except for betrayals and derankers.

Ok so i buy a game like Halo just to play the campaign every single day…Halo was the best online shooter so yes it´s mostly about the multiplayer and maybe Halo isn´t dead yet but it´s two steps closer to it´s inevitable end.
