The population drops bit by bit everyday.
At this point the game is really beyond salvaging. The people who left are not going to come back unless there are some pretty radical (needed) changes made, which won’t happen.
We’ve all read the countless threads on what is wrong with the game and it all comes down to competitiveness.
I literally logged well over 10,000 games of Halo 2 alone. I’m sure the people who played a lot back then will agree that competitiveness was the driving force of play. That is really what halo has always been about, getting better than others.
If you remember, back then the kids who would be classified as casuals were in the minority. Zombies and Tower of Power were fun but the majority of your playing was either in Matchmaking or in competitive custom matches.
Ranks drive competitiveness because they are used for bragging rights. Thus people care about their rank and give it their all to rank up.
Halo 4 just is not competitive and that is why people don’t want to play. Its a really boring game. The ranks give no indication of skill, just how much you play. Everyone pretty much has all the same weapons and armor abilities which are in reality just power ups. There are no power weapons on the map, they just get dropped right to you.
This is the first Halo game, in which when you spawn, there is nothing on the map that is worth trying to obtain. In every other Halo game, there are power ups and power weapons on the map that you need to go get.
In Halo 1-3 and even Reach, you basically had to do your workout and then you get your cake. In Halo 4, you get your cake with the option of working out.
The drive to get that power weapon or get that power up is really what makes Halo. The fight for control of these power items is what drives people to get better. Since this is non existent in Halo 4, Halo really is dead.
They aren’t going to swap AAs to custom power ups, they aren’t going to get rid of ordnance, we aren’t going to get a good ranking system that even resembles H2’s or 3’s, therefore they will never revive the game.
So just let this game die, we need to worry about Halo 5.
We need to compile a list of things we want for Halo 5 to bring the Halo series back to life. The sad thing is that it isn’t that difficult.
also, at the end of next month the 1-50 system will come online.
