Halo is changing... but which direction!

First and foremost, let me say that I am by no means a scholar of the English language. So bare with me here on some trivial; grammar, punctuation, or spelling mistakes. Now let me just say that I am not here to bash on change. In fact I more than implore for it! However there are two types of change the way that I see it, Good change and Bad change.

For me, Good change is more on the scale of a game changer. A change that “OTHER” games will follow! I like to see this as Halo 1. A game that very well changed the face of first person shooters. Its a change that Halo desperately needs, and should be rather easy to achieve. “Ill get to that in a second”

And then there is Bad Change! Whats Bad Change you ask? well my friends, Bad change is sadly what we are beginning to see! Bad change is adding content to a game for the sake of trying to get a piece of the pie! Change that is not Leading the genre but simply following it! That’s bad, and something new for Halo. Just step back and think about this for one second…
Call of Duty will now be a far more competitive game than Halo! No my friends… hell hasn’t frozen over, Pigs are not flying, and we still don’t know what came first… chicken or the egg!

Let me be clear!!! I’m not saying all of these changes are going to be a bad thing. In fact they might very well be fantastic! However the change I am scared of is that of caring for the causal first, and the competitive second.

It does not need to create a grand new first person sandbox with bits and pieces of other games throw in. What Halo needs is a change in the process of which group is being catered to. The Competitive Community. Look at Starcraft for example… Did Blizzard create a brand spanking new game play component that changed the RTS genre forever?? NO they did not! Blizzard simply built the game from the ground up as a competitive powerhouse. They emphasized balanced, smooth mechanics, and competitive game play. It has worked beyond there own expectations… WHY? Because they catered to the Competitive!

Now think about it for a moment… Who are the most passionate gamers around? Who spend countless hours playing the game day and night? Who, in a simple 5 minute conversation can get you and your friends hyped up about a session of play, “We all have that friend that talked us into trying the game! laughs!!” And who is it that the masses of gamers follow? The Hardcore!!! Make a game the Hardcore gamer loves and I promise that he/she will convince there causal friends to give that game a shot!

Look at reach for your proof! Who hated the game more than anyone else! Yep, and its those same passionate gamers that told there causal friends and everyone else… " Dude that game blows! don’t even bother with it". and what happened?? no one plays it!

Maybe right now your thinking? “Hey Kyle your a idiot, go jump off a cliff!” and yes I say this knowing full well the amount of posts that are sure to say just that. We are a very hateful community! But come on people! Most likely no 1-50 system, instant respawns, and for the love of god! AN EASIER SNIPER!!! For christ sakes people, what happened to the days of blasting some lead into a guy and taking some pride in it. Because I don’t know about you, but when every Joe shmow can do it, it sure doesn’t feel that EPIC!

So here to hoping that Halo 4 gets its you know what in gear!

Halo 4 is changing for the better, evolving and adapting to the new market. We need to stop living in the past and get used to the changes that are being made.

Also, how do you know that the sniper rifle is easier to use in this game?

Here we go again…
Yes halo 4 will be good.
END

You are exaggerating. 343i needs to cater to all fans, not just a small group, no matter how vocal they are or how much they think they deserve to have the final say. Hardcore competitives are not the only group of people playing the game, so stop thinking Halo 4 HAS to be super competitive.

Plus, 343i has this thing called the Cortana Web, which tracks pretty much everything from their Beta and helps them balance. Just because you don’t start off 100% the same as everyone else doesn’t mean things can’t be balanced. Also, how you say COD is now more competitive than Halo is completely off and if likely only there so people will reply. It’s when people like you do things like that that make me ashamed to have the name Kyle.

I hope it is changing for the better. But classes, no ranks, perks, and instant respawn is NOT NEW! Its and system that is being, over used, over copied, and slowing dying by COD and its thousands of spin offs.

Lol and it was in the latest dev vid where they talk about it I think! but they did say it and that it was easier than the reach sniper.

Halo is changing in A direction, some like the direction, some don’t. I thought we were done with this “Casual/Competitive” stuff?

Also “hardcore” =/= “competitive”

*sigh

Firstly, It wasn’t the hardcore player that told the casuals to stop playing. Reach just gave No incentive to play which caused EVERYONE to stop playing it. Secondly, CoD will NEVER be more competitive than halo. It’s completely okay if halo takes some aspects of other games in order to keep the franchise relevant in a rapidly changing market. If we just got another halo 2 with upgraded graphics, NOONE would play for long.

Halo, in my mind, is changing for the better. Taking good things from other games, and adding their own spin and making them better.

if 343i is going to cater to the fans, that means we’ll be flying a pelican with useable missles and machiene guns!

to make a good game you need to take a little of everything and add your own flare to it and still keep it halo, thats what 343 has done its for everyone to enjoy and its not becoming something else and never will become something else, name another game where you get wear flashy armours change up the looks and the colors, get an arsenal of all types of alien guns, have recharging energy sheilds and jumping higher than olympic hurdler, forging up maps with unlimited possibilities, taking screeenshots and making clips and saving videos, killing people with a bad -Yoink- game announcer shouting slayer, and double kill, halo is halo, its compares to no other game

> if 343i is going to cater to the fans, that means we’ll be flying a pelican with useable missles and machiene guns!

It’s more likely then you think.

Its when people blindly ignore facts that makes me ashamed to have the name Kyle. Fact is… COD is adding spectator mode= superior competitive atmosphere! Fact is… if this halo blows we have to wait till halo 5 for a good game. Period… and im not purist! i didnt start playing halo till 3.

nice presentation.

CoD doesn’t have to load so much stuff on every map, different armor, weapons and vehicles on map etc, so of course they can have a spectator mode.

So adding one or two more player slot to a match making game for the spectator will cause a crash of the network and slow down each and every game. I think not! and I heart you to

I have no idea what the second half of your post is saying.

I disagree for the sake of debate, not anger. I heart you was just quicker to say

This is a great post. I agree with everything in it. People say we’re stuck in the past but these other people are stuck with the idea that Halo needs to “evolve.” I’ve seen a lot of good and bad change in Halo 4, no side can say exactly what this game is going to be.

I just wish people would stop saying, “Halo has adapted to the new!” because like i said… Classes, perks, instant respawns… are not new, more of a dying horse!

what are the chances of it happening?
