I just saying if they didn’t have Master Chief, in Halo ^ or whatever it might be call it will still be Halo and epic. Read the books and the Lore you will all realize this is bigger the 112.
In the original Halo, he was ‘the last of his kind’, and in a lot of missions you would feel all alone with only Cortana as support. He was the super-soldier that did what was necessary and although that is a common trope in video games, a lot of gamers - including myself - have a longstanding connection that spans over a decade.
The Halo universe may be bigger than 117. However, to me the Halo video games will always be about John and his dedication to Humanity, his friends and fellow soldiers and the UNSC. Sure, I enjoyed ODST and Reach, the stories were awesome and the new characters were really cool! But, there would still be a part of me that couldn’t wait to play as the Chief in the ‘next game’.
They probable keep the name for brand recognition. Like Hidden Truth a Halo story.
Halo is nothing without Johm-117. Cortona chose him for a reason! He is the center and backbone of the game franchise and the face! I could not imagine playing halo without chief. I never played ODST, but I did play reach but only kept asking myself when will we get a glimpse a chief.
I think the story did a good job of bringing me around to Locke, but I agree that I am not sure that they will get rid of 117, simply because of brand recognition. You have to remember that this is a business, and many people are not as into the expanded universe as we are here on waypoint so they probably will keep him around in order to attract those people that pick it up and play it but don’t explore deeper.
I agree, They did a great job introducing Locke and fire-team Osiris. With that being said, I personally prefer Master Chief because he was the character that I always played with. I never wanted to play as another Spartan other than 117. I have read the expanded universe and I hope they can right a series about Locke and Fire-team Osiris so I can get better acquainted with the new addition to the franchise.
How could a halo fan be bored of John and Cortona? I am still pissed that the cinematic trailers had nothing to do with the game.
I think the Halo universe is large. They´ve done great things and can do many things yet, but I think the focus should always be John and Cortana. I enjoyed the Reach, ODST, books, comics, etc. and they are really good, but did not imagine the Halo´s saga without him. If in the future continue without him, we will enjoy the same adventure, but not the same, I think you lose much of the essence of Halo, a game to be just “more”.

nailed it right on the head
I understand both sides of the argument - on the one hand, the universe is too large to be confined to one character, and other sci-fi franchises have moved on from their original characters successfully - on the other hand, you could argue he’s the Xbox’s Mario and you don’t replace Mario.
Ultimately, I’ll play whatever future Halo games come out either way. If they star the Chief, fine. If they don’t, also fine.
Careful, the fanboys will burn you at the stake for saying that. They are very closed minded.
Can’t wait to see what is coming down the pipeline!!
It is bigger than Chief, doesn’t matter.
Yank Chief away from it (kill him off) and that will only scare away more fans…
bad call…
I hate to be that guy but than is the word you were looking for in your title not then. I don’t believe killing off Master Chief would be a good move for the fan base. Personally, I don’t mind him not being the spotlight is bad though.
