Halo Infinte Tech Preview Review Part 1 (Weapons)

Halo Infinite is simply a banger of a game. The game like I’ve said several times before, is what I predicted it would be. I’m pleased to say boys, that the game plays like a masterpiece. I just want to thank 343 for the hard work they’ve sunk into this next installment of the franchise and I’m DAMN excited to see where it’ll go next.

However I do have some critiques I want to dish out along with a cornucopia of praise with this post. A good chunk of criticisms are very minor, and a handful moderately important, so i hope 343 considers some of my critiques going forward.

Weapons

Every weapon was incredibly useful to utilize, I literally had a ball using every gun in the sandbox. Obviously there are some that shine more than others, as it should be, but I found that, in every encounter I had with an enemy player in pvp, be it a plasma pistol, commando, or shock rifle, I always felt like I could do something. So simply put, every weapon (in this flight at least) gets a two thumbs up. Here’s my review for each weapon.

Assault Rifle

SIMPLY FANTASTIC. This AR is objectively speaking, the best in the series. I’m pretty sure it was my most used weapon in this particular flight. The aiming is tight, bullets are super accurate and it sounds beefy. Its definitely an S tier weapon as it stands currently. Some people say its too good, and to be very honest I think I agree. But I think it should stay that way. Literally better than CE’s AR. And that thing shreds.
(10/10)

Sidekick

A beastly pistol that’s pretty much almost as good as Halo 5’s pistol. It has a mighty fine quickdraw animation, you could use to then start peppering your opponents and finish them off. The gun by itself is extremely useful and can quickly turn the tide of an encounter with well placed headshots. I love its rate of fire. I kind of find it rather difficult to aim with, but that’s because I just suck with it. Which is weird, because I could easily destroy with the Commando despite its stark recoil.
(10/10)

Bulldog

A decent shotgun thats weaker than a classic shotgun. But that thing could really shred at close distances, can’t tell you how many times I’ve been mowed down by that thing.
(6/10)

Battle Rifle

Best Battle Rifle this franchise has ever seen. Period. Aiming with it feels incredibly satisfying, the sound of it is -Yoinking!- gorgeous, and its signature burst shots feel insanely impactful. The animation you get when you equip one is super slick as well. The gun in general just feels really good. REALLY good.
(10/10)

Commando

One of my favorite new additions to the Halo weapon sandbox. Its a very good rifle with noticeable recoil which could definitely throw you off when you’re trying to hit shots with it. But once you’re able to tame its kickback, you could literally be your own Schwarzenegger commando on the battlefield. Thing is a beast.
(8/10)

Spankr

Super dope. Shoot rocket- everything go boom.

Its as competent as its previous versions but sounds WAY better than its predecessors.
343 put their foot in the sound design for it. I got an overkill with it once in a close game of BTB slayer. Felt incredible.
(10/10)

Gravity Hammer

I love this Halo’s Gravity Hammer, it definitely has nice range this time around which i love. It completely RIPS vehicles and also sends them flying which is great but I wish that could also be applied to players. I’ve come around to liking its sound design but I still find it way inferior to the way it sounded for Halo 3.
(9/10)

Plasma Pistol

This Halo’s Plasma Pistol works extremely well and surprisingly feels more like a weapon you could dominate with if you play your cards right. One thing I do not like about it, is that it no longer EMP’s vehicles. I realize that 343 has lent immobilization of vehicles via electricity type weapons but I feel it’d be wrong if they took away the one thing that made it unique in other Halo’s.
(7/10)

Sniper Rifle

Beast. Sounds great. Its difficult to land shots with but im getting used to it. I think its safe to say that this version of the sniper takes a lot more skill.
(8/10)

Pulse Carbine

A very nice plasma rifle that can quickly deplete shields and has a surprisingly quick kill time. The aiming with it can genuinely be tricky sometimes, because its more projectile based than anything.
(7/10)

Needler

Absolutely incredible, a classic covenant weapon that really shreds once you aim down sights. Its SFX in this tech preview were a massive upgrade from the one before which sounded like a tetris piece pooping.
(9/10)

Ravager

10/10. Remember the concussion rifle from Reach? Its pretty much that, but WAY better. It absolutely works like a damn charm on vehicles, it could completely topple over one and even destroy one with 4 bursts maximum… close quarters combat with it is so satisfying, and if you’re good enough you could even get a long range kill with it if you examine its projectile trajectory well. Don’t forget its alternate firing mode where it could hurl out a fairly wide, fiery area of denial. Things a beast. Its an S tier weapon for sure.
(10/10)

Skewer

You actually really have to lead your shots with this thing and its super hard to hit on players, but its damn satisfying to use on vehicles as thats its primary function. Its a brilliant power weapon that can do big damage if you’re able to land your shots on on-foot enemy players. I honestly prefer it to the Spartan laser. It takes a lot more skill to use.
(7/10)

Shock Rifle

This is a weird weapon, its like a sniper but it lightly damages when you miss. Its very deadly when used correctly. You could EMP vehicles with two shots. And it could be used to chain electricity across objects that attract it. Its a crazy interesting weapon.
(7/10)

Agreed. Unlike some I actually really liked all of the new weapons. Some have their issues and I do miss some things, like the sniper sounds great but I do really miss the __CRACK__ of the old one. The plasma carbine thingy i find is a little slow in its velocity but still usable and weird. I do think 343 really did a good one with this game. I definitely have some large complaints however overall this is the halo I was waiting for!

The pulse carbine is definitely weird, its almost like you have to miss in order to hit your shots haha!
