I know, this isn’t exactly fair towards those who grinded for it, but hear me out.
out of the MILLIONS of people who played Halo 5, only a couple of thousands, not even ten thousand, have reached SR152.
Why?
because the insane grind is so monumental that most people don’t want, or CAN even tackle it, for various reasons.
Many people play Halo casually, mostly because they don’t have the time to invest grinding away at ranks, and I think that this challenge was unfair especially for those people, but also for anyone else who still grind Halo games, and yet couldn’t reach that max rank due to the unrealistic goal of reaching 50 MILLION xp in Halo 5.
I just can’t help to think that this challenge was too high of a goal for something as simple as an armour coating, one that turned out to be rather lackluster for the grind involved in getting it.
The challenge is ridiculously hard. Having it be purchasable in store would completely and utterly undermine the effort that people put in to get it. It’s a monumental challenge that only a handful of people have the patience and dedication to accomplish. Having a skin to represent that is cool. It shows how much time and effort you’ve put into the game, and marks you as a member of a small and exclusive group. Notably, a group you have to work to get into, not one you can buy your way in.
And at the end of the day, its just a skin. Who cares if you you don’t get it? Or can’t have it? Life goes on. You’ll cope.
I disagree - they’ve earned it - let them have it.
Also, 343 stated that any unlocks will come from a single vector only (except for promotional things only available in certain regions) which means if it was awarded for SR152 in Halo 5 it will not appear in the store.
Likewise, anything in the store now that costs $$ will never be earnable for free from challenges/battle passes.
With our Player First design pillar, we want to ensure that we’re respecting players’ time for unlocks they’ve earned and purchases they make. For customization, this means ensuring that each unlock comes from a consistent vector.
From someone who spent MONTHS grinding this out for 6-8 hours a day: NO.
What an absolute slap in the face this would be to me, and all the other people who spent an unbelievable amount of time grinding for - just to see it on the store for $20. Are you mad?!
I quite like it, unless it’s different from the recent promo stuff. It’s a shame you don’t like it after such effort. Hopefully you 152 lads get more later
I understand that some people couldn’t unlock it because there social life and what not. But imagine if bungie just sold recon on halo 3 and the outrage that would cause for everyone who either earned it from bungie or took the time to complete the vidmaster challenge.
Of course in future halos it because a standard helmet, but that’s simply become the legend of recon was tired to halo 3.
Now imagine those people who grinded halo.5 to get 152 just before infinite droped, only to find their reward in the store for £5 or £10 some people deserve this reward otherwise how are you to recognise them.
if you spent 1000’s of hours doing something to earn some special rewards, then someone else bought that same thing within the week you actually got it for $5 how would you feel?
