Halo Infinite's Slide Mechanic Can Use These Updates

This will be a controversial one considering many Halo Veterans probably don’t prefer to have mechanics like sprinting, clambering and sliding. However, it looks like this movement tech is here to stay, and in my opinion, the slide mechanic can use three major updates.

  1. Decrease the sprint requirement before slide can be activated. Sometimes it feels that it takes too long to build up to the slide itself and just feels uncomfortable.
  2. Create a more consistent slide length & speed. This is a piggy back off of the previous bullet point. The longer sprint requirement sometimes causes those awkward, short slides where you kind of just crouch in place. If I’ve met the sprint requirement and hit the slide button, it would be ideal for the slide distance and speed to stay consistent.
  3. Do not cancel slide when turning during the animation. This is one that takes big inspiration from games like Apex Legends and Destiny 2. In Halo, while sliding, if you turn, you will cancel the slide and awkwardly stop moving. Part of the reason why sliding feels so great in Apex and Destiny, is that you can orientate your aim, while sliding in the same direction of your momentum. This gives more ability to slide into a lane and challenge opponents, without cancelling your movement.

As a last point, I personally think by creating this more consistent, flexible experience, it would replace more ‘glitch’ style movement tech such as curb and snap sliding. Put the skill gap into intended mechanics, not tricks!
