How do you guys feel about Infinite’s radar? I don’t know what the specific meter range currently is but personally, I’m just not a fan. I want to summarize why with just a few points.
I feel by the time opponents do pop up on your radar, it feels almost too late to react.
There’s a delay on how fast your “dot” disappears when you go from walking to crouching and I just don’t understand why this change is even a thing.
I also feel a clear indicator showing if somebody’s above or below you would also be extremely helpful. (ex. triangle on radar when somebody’s above you in Halo Reach.)
Would love to know if you guys think the radar is fine the way it is or maybe even feel the same way? I remember back in the Halo 3/Reach days looking at my radar half as much as I looked at what’s going on in front of me. While I have loved playing Infinite so far, I just wish the radar felt a bit more useful. Hope the range is increased come December 8th although I doubt it.
I’ve been ran over from behind because by the time anything pops up on my radar it’s too late for me to react. In old halos you see something on radar, if you act quickly you might be fine. The radar in infinite is basically if you see something, you’re already dead.
The problem is that Infinite’s radar is by far the smallest. I heard it mentioned at one point by one of the prominent Halo YouTubers that the radar is 15 meters compared to the 18-25 meters in the other games. As already noted by others, it does little more than tell you someone is in your immediate vicinity at which point unless they are above or below you, which is barely clarified, you are already dead.
I’ve been saying this since the flight, I don’t understand why they changed it. People don’t even pop up when they shoot. More people need to talk about this so 343 can see this flawed change.
Not even checking it anymore as it gives zero benefit. I am also guessing they want you to listen for audio queues (I remember a whole article about it) but the mix is so loud that you can’t hear anything.
I agree, the footsteps are nonexistent. There is no benefit to walking / crouching, as you can just as easily sprint without any penalty.
Radar is a staple of Halo. I don’t see why they are trying to destroy it. It’s been completely removed in Ranked also, and has ruined the competitive experience. If I wanted to play a lackluster sprint / bounce / hop / wild-show, which I do not, I’d play Fortnite.
Very strongly agree. I think this is my #1 issue with the game. I have hearing issues and the radar is the only thing that mitigates them, I need the full-sized radar back.
Honestly, I’ve always hated the motion tracker in halo games, it makes game-sense far less important and makes it so if you want to out-maneuver somebody you have to crouch walk everywhere, or create enough space to leave radar range, then crouch walk everywhere. the game is much more fun when you are focusing on the game and not the tiny motion tracker for information.
if it was up to me, radar would go back to how it was during one of the test flights, only showing sprinting and gunshots.
Issue with that is, for people like me, who having hearing disabilities, that caters VERY strongly to players who have quiet homes, nice headhpones, and ears that work correctly
I need the radar to know people are coming up behind me. It’s not game sense, it’s literal senses, and that’s not what the game should be about. For people who want that, I don;t mind comp having no radar. But for social, i want the radar to mitigate my problems. This is an accessibility issue that I hope 343 addresses.
Yep, most usesless radar in any halo game to date. I’d suggest to 343, buff the radar and increase sprint speed a little bit. Sprint feels really bad to use, ik they wanted to take a middle ground between sprint and no sprint fans (personally I’m somewhere in the middle being a fan of Reach and Halo 3), but this jsut feels too slow. But yeah, the radar thing is my biggest issue right now. I played my first day of the game being confused as to why people kept sneaking up on me, it is so annoying. It makes this game feel like Call of Duty. 343 are constantly trying to change things for the sake of changing them. You don’t need to fix something that already works.
What I mean by game sense is say somebody is behind a rock or something, are they going to peek on the left side or right? are they going to retreat or swing out and press an attack. with the motion tracker picking up all movement that’s not crouch-walking you can tell what somebody is going to do just by looking at their motion signature. there aren’t many options for the person behind the rock to throw off their opponent, since they can see all their motion.
That’s why I would like the return of the motion tracker to how it was in the early test flights, picking up sprinting, and gunfire. this way there is still an indicator that an enemy is nearby when they perform “loud” actions but it doesn’t constantly project their location in the middle of a fight, allowing for more opportunities to misdirect, juke, or fall back.
I got ran over by allies because my radar didn’t warn me about anything other than a vague yellow partial border until I got splattered as they did a sick jump. Radar range I would kill for an increase.
Eh, I think crouch-walking is perfectly capable of being used to misdirect and juke, and grenades, clamber, etc. can be used to further control movement and positioning. I think not having radar actually undermines the ability to do that by making it 100% luck-based, unless you have good headphones that tell you.
I mean, in your example with someone on the other side of a rock; if they’re truly behind the rock, and you can’t see them, or hear them using headphones or anything like that, then it’s 100% random. It’s not like poker where you can try to guess by their face; you’re just guessing by guessing. With radar, they have to outmaneuver you, despite you knowing where they are, which is much more skillful in my opinion.
