Halo Infinite Xbox Live Gold Membership Question

Hi guys, as many of you know, it was recently announce Halo infinite’s multiplayer will be free to play for everyone on launch. That got me thinking, are they going to ditch Xbox live Gold membership altogether when the series X launches? If you look on the steam page for Halo infinite (Halo Infinite on Steam) it reads “Halo’s celebrated multiplayer returns! More information coming later this year (requires Xbox Live Gold on console, membership sold separately).” So the fact that it was just announced that it will be free to play is a bit confusing. Maybe a typo or they wrote it before it was confirmed. Either way, I hope you don’t have to pay for gold anymore just to play the main reason a lot of people buy an Xbox in the first place.

Amazon says the exact same thing as steam, and it got me confused as well. Personally, I would be very surprised to see gold go, although I can’t say I’d mourn.

I would expect that changes are coming for how Xbox Live works soon, as they started yanking year long memberships off the shelf rather recently. Keep a lookout for a change up before the launch of Infinite.

I saw a link that someone shared on facebook and it said that Xbox live/ gold are not being changed. Just read the headline and didn’t click link but will post link if I find it.

EDIT: Read here.

Not buying it. Obviously they’re saying it’s not currently changing, but I really think we’re going to see a revamp of it before the Series X launches.

Maybe now they won’t touch it now eventually they’ll probably think it makes sense to move everyone to game pass.

I was talking about this with my brother and there is no way Microsoft would willingly lose all that revenue for multiplayer playing. There was a article that was saying that everything would be free to play multiplayer, but I actually think they got confused with the current model they have of free to play games still requiring Gold to play online and regular games still requiring gold/game pass to play. I think they’re finally going to get rid of gold and all free to play games will be able to be played without gold/game pass but everything else is still gonna require the game pass to play online.

That or all of the launch titles for the new system will be free to play online at least, to keep competitive in this console cycle. But to willingly lose all that money permanently would just be insane for them to do.

I read about it on TA.com. Rather confusing… MS said no change to gold but jerked the 12 month membership and charged $9.98 for 1 month of gold and $25.00 for 3 months. Instead of $60 a year now it’s $100 if you buy a 3 month at a time or stack 4 of them if you don’t want to bother with reloading your membership every 3 months.

I saw the same thing and they’re talking about having to have Game Pass Ultimate to play games online other than the Game Pass games and the Games with Gold, I’m just wondering what I’m going to do or should do because my Xbox live Gold membership is paid up until April 21 2023. Are they going to want more money outta me or what because of the higher cost of GP Ultimate? I’ll tell you now that I’ve never been a fan of Game Pass anyway.

MS said they’re not doing away with gold. I’m dreaming maybe they’re going up on membership prices so they can sell the Series X at a low cost… hahaha

I think, though I can’t be certain, that if they do end gold, say at the end of this year, they will probably put the value of your remaining gold membership time on your account, or they might upgrade it to game pass ultimate for but for a shorter amount of time since gold is cheaper. (say until 4/21/22 instead of 4/21/23). But that’s definitively something to email xbox support about.

Yeah because that is a lot of time to lose and I’d definitely be mad as hell about it, to be exact I don’t wanna even lose a single year just because they want to switch things around. Personally I think that the best thing for them to do is just leave well enough alone because everyone is happy the way it is right now, there’s no point in going and mucking things up and making people mad at them.
