Halo Infinite will only be at 60fps on series x?

Hey all,

When reviewing the Xbox Series X on the Xbox website. I noticed a brief detail that they state you will be able to enjoy the Story mode at a 4K HDR experience at 60 FPS. When the Xbox series X has a main focus point of being able to run 4K at 120 FPS.

Would anybody happen to know a little more about this topic as in why we are being cut short of the 120 FPS experience in 4K for Halo Infinite.

I wouldn’t put too much weight into what it says on websites just because they are usually full of out-dated information.

But to provide some measure of certainty, all 343 has confirmed is that multiplayer will run at 120 fps on the Series X. That’s all the official information we have heard from 343 at least.

Halo Infinite Multiplayer will support 120fps on Xbox Series X.
Halo Infinite Campaign will be aiming for 4k 60fps on Xbox Series X.

Running video games at 4K 120fps is some serious work. $2000 PCs cannot do that, let alone a console. Not all games will be running at 4K 120fps. In fact only a very small minority of games will be able to run at that speed and resolution at all. Expect a majority of games to be at 4K 60fps.

You sure about the “4k” part of the 120fps MP? I assumed that you will get the option of “resolution priority” (4k60) or “performance priority” (120fps). I seriously doubt the Series X can run Halo MP at 4k 120fps…unless the maps are optimized as -Yoink- and resemble the bland forge world Halo Reach maps (which I don’t think anyone wants, no matter the framerate).

No I’m not sure actually. Totally missed it wasn’t on the tweet.

Thanks, I was stressing since we will have cross play servers with PC, I didn’t want to deal with the pain of being at half of the FPS lock compared to a normal PC player when playing on console.

That was something I have been concerned about. I’m not very knowledgeable on networks/devices. It didn’t make sense how the Xbox one to the S/X to the pc would play on multiplayer if all were operating at different levels. To me whomever had the better hardware/connection would probably have the better experience. Idk if this even applies or not as stated, I am a novice when it comes to this topic. In to learn more!

As a rough rule of thumb can we put the Series S at the same frame rate of the X… just with lower resolution?

ie. Campaign 60Hz at 1440p and MP 120Hz at 1080p?

If the goal is still a solid 60fps on Xbox One multiplayer it should be able 4K120 dynamic because I sincerely doubt they are going to push the multiplayer settings near the extent that they will for the campaign. You’re looking at it as a next gen multiplayer game rather than a last gen multiplayer game and it definitely falls into the latter category based on what we know, which is fine.

the bigger issue of crossplay isn’t 60 v 120, it’s if they mix controller with kbm servers and FOV. FPS takes a backseat to both of those potential advantages.

As a launch title COD Black Ops Cold War is launching at 4K120 and that game visually blows the Infinite demo out of the water. Both games will run with dynamic resolution scalers and shouldn’t have issues running what is essentially an Xbox One game mostly at peak resolution and peak framerate. And even if they run at mostly 1800p… Oh well. That’s practically 4K anyway.

Consider that practically every PC is operating at different levels in different aspects at all times so adding 4 console SKUs on top of that isn’t going to rock the boat compared to the vast array of machines out now. Naturally, the beefiest hardware will end up with a better experience but the differences should be marginal. Halo is a relatively short range, colorful game to the extent that the differences shouldn’t be that detrimental to the multiplayer balance. You will have a better experience on the better hardware, but they should still be pretty comparable. Basically, don’t worry about that aspect unless something changes (which we won’t know til a multiplayer demo/beta).

That’s more or less the design philosophy behind the console, that’s why it more or less runs the same chip in it on the CPU side and the biggest cutbacks are on the GPU and RAM side of things (and you shouldn’t need as much RAM if you are using lower fidelity art assets), so it should stand to reason Halo will follow this design approach as well.

That makes sense, I was just worried about experiencing problems on multiplayer.

Ideally we should all be playing at the same concept of frames per a second, they won’t FPS lock PC, so 120 on console would compete with that. It isn’t a world of a difference besides in competitive play list, and as mentioned above mouse + keyboard will out class a controller at the highest end of play.

Thanks! Like i said im a laymen when it comes to this particular subject. Master of none…student of all

With how rough the graphics are right now, 120fps is really pushing it. They should get the game to look as good as the E3 2019 trailer before aiming for 120fps. 60fps is plenty fine.

Ehhh 60 is good if we don’t have cross play servers but we will.

This is just my guess. But most likely 1080 120 or 4k 60. Remember just because it says its 2.1 hdmi that doesnt mean 2.0 wont get its firmware upgraded to be able to handle it.

The number of players on a TV that will support HDMI 2.1 /true 120Hz (not 120 clear motion marketing gimmick) monitors will be less than 10-15%… it will grow year over year but very few people initially. By the time it has a high adoption rate, we’ll be a bit into the XSX life cycle and XB1 will be on the way out.
