"Halo Infinite will fail if it follows trends."

I’m not here to complain about textures and graphics like everyone else. In fact, I personally loved the revert to the classic art style, elites, etc. I know 343 will make it nice and pretty for us all. Especially when ray-tracing is added post launch.

I am here to talk about things that are in every other FPS. Sprint, slide, clamber. (beating a dead horse right?) But just hear me out. I know 343 took some things away from Halo 5, like thrust. But, if anything should have stayed form halo 5, it was that. I’m a classic Halo guy all they way. But, if I had to choose between sprint/slide/clamber or thrust with a higher jump, I would choose thrust with a higher jump. Thrust was the one added movement the Halo 5 community loved the most. A thrust like H5, and a jump like H2/H3, feels more like Halo to me then the same generic movements (slide and clamber especially) regular soldiers in CoD can do.

Please 343, understand that sprinting itself is not the issue with the anti-sprinters. Moving faster is not the issue. It’s the annoying animation that comes along with it and the way that changes the way the game is played, especially in multiplayer. I, and many other og fans, liked having guns ready at all times. I think if we have sprint, and it stays as slow as it is in the Halo Infinite demo game play, the gun should still be up and ready at all times. The same words I always hear is, “why shouldn’t a super solider be able to sprint?”. Then my return question would be, "why should a super solider NOT be able to sprint and shoot at the same time?" I think doing both would be a happy medium between both sides. Maybe create a slight accuracy bloom for when we’re sprinting, but the gun should always be forward with the aim reticle on screen. Or, we could just have a faster base speed with no aim bloom. Look at games like DOOM Eternal, staying true to its roots, and THRIVING. With no sprint might I add.

Every single one of your competitors has the same movements. It looks like the mechanics are the same games with a different skin on it! *Sprint…, Slide…, Clamber…*CoD, Apex, Battlefield… etc…etc… Make Halo stand out again! Stop trying to bring over other players from other games and make it more true to it’s classic game play interaction roots!

Another example is the jumps. Scale the maps to be a crouch jump instead of a clamber jump. Missing a jump and being trapped in a pit was a fun aspect of Halo and was another thing that created a skill gap in multiplayer. Which made it more fun! To learn and getting better. Give people a learning curve. .Not, “oh i missed the jump now I can just climb up it…”

Being able to traverse the map, while shooting, was always a unique aspect of Halo.

Overall, I’m extremely excited for Infinite, regardless of my concerns posted above. I’ve got nothing but love for you 343. I’m thankful you’ve kept my favorite series alive all theses years. I’ve been a hardcore fan since the very beginning. (CE came out when I was 10)

READY FOR LAUNCH!!!

Movement will only work like that if kill times are slower, but for some reason I just can’t see that happening.

I loved the skill jumps in Halo 3, they really made for some great plays on maps like Guardian. They weren’t intentional though, so I understand not having them in other games. Similar jumps exist with clamber where they require higher precision to pull off.

Personally I prefer old halo multiplayer but I don’t really care what they out or at this point as long as I can have fun doing it. A meaningful and enjoyable skill based system along with unlockables makes online games last for me.

> I’m new to this debate, so super sorry if I sound crazy stupid! I personally don’t think sprint is a huge deal if the gun can be aimed back up at a moment’s notice. It seems more like a nice way to make players feel like they’re running fast. I totally get why that might seem like a negative thing to fans of classic movement, but to me it adds to the fun! I probably won’t be changing anyone’s minds here, but I just want to share what I think.

yes, but why couldn’t it be both like i said? have both sprit and weapons ready. then both sides get what they want

I agree with the idea that having your weapon always ready while moving at top speed feels more to me like a capability a super soldier should have, rather than running fast and putting your gun down while doing it–effectively sacrificing combat readiness for increased mobility–because it “feels more realistic.” I wish I could say that I never wanted Halo to sacrifice its unique gameplay for realism, but I was one of those people early on who wanted sprint to be added, for the same reasons people today want it to stay. It was only after sprint was integrated into the franchise that I realized how many design concessions had to be made to accommodate it.

I can’t blame anyone for not minding sprint, or even thinking that not having sprint is boring and slow. But it also leaves room for designers to make much more interesting design choices when it comes to environments and the surrounding sandbox.

to be fair, at this point those systems have been in halo for awhile. Its no longer following trends, its them just building on what they built in the previous game. If it was a true trend follower, equipment would not be in the game and we would have more abilities. That or it be a hero shooter

343 seems to be making it a Halo game, but also wanting to do somethings that they want to add… which would probably be sprint, slide, and clamber. IF they do change it, I can see the most likely change be to keep clamber, and add thrust. Maybe even just sprint and thrust. Honestly it’s fine for me either way, I’m going to have fun, but it does need to become more than the other shooters. Halo was known for it’s own way of play, and it should become that again.

Why should spartans not be able to sprint, slide or climb smth? They can even perform a roll in the books…
Sprinting without moving your upper body is called Jogging  . Therefore they are not able to sprint and shoot at the same time.

This discussion is like “Classic vs Retail WoW”.

arguably, thruster packs are what made halo 5 too jerky and spammy imo… Its not that it makes the player move faster… its that it makes close combat ridiculously tedious as players jerk about right and left. the sliding and sprint arent neccesarily problems nor hinderences as long as they are managed properly.
Clamber is the only point I can see some people taking issue to as it might enable some gameplay that was otherwise unintended or very different. But even then… its no where nearly as different as what thrust enables.
Sprint has enabled people running away from a gunfight which isnt exaclty what halo played as previously, and there has been attempts to fix that issue… with limited success.

Sliding doesnt seem to be an issue really. Im actually more for this mechanic. It promotes manuvering and shooting on the move… something integral to halo’s formula.
Ill still even make a case for clamber. Even thou im rather neutral towards it, clamber might just also make the gameplay fluid and dynamic. Helping you get on that ledge that you were going to get on anyways in a more fluid motion… however i will agree… if you werent going to get up there… it seems rather broken.

Yea there were some sneaky jumps you could do in lockout, midship and blood gultch that were game changing. Was awesome.

Who cares if they “should” be able to do something because it’s realistic? Why do people still try to make this point? It’s a videogame. They are not realistic.

Ummmm
