Halo Infinite Weapon Changes

Hey fellas! Now that Infinite is a year away from release, what changes to the weapon sandbox would you like to see in Infinite? What guns derserve to be nerfed or buffed? I made a personal list of what should be buffed or nerfed. Although this list only consists of a few UNSC weapons and not Covenant or Forerunner weapons.

General changes:
Majority of the weapons have reduce aim-assist and bullet magnetism now requiring better aim. This also remove absurd kills such as the Magnum and Sniper Rifle being able to finish off opponents when the reticle is completely off the player.
All Autos including the Shotties, Plasma Pistol, Magnum and Boltshot can no longer smart-scope drastically reducing their overall effective range. However, this makes them suit their role better rather than makin’ them long range weapons. (The SMG is excluded from this considering it has a scope allowing players to still smart scope)

All projectile weapons, such as the BR and Carbine no longer gets an accuracy boost while smart scoped thus removing true ADS.

Assault Rifle:
• Remove the ability to smartscope
• Decrease mag capacity from 36 to 30
• Decrease bullet dmg (kills in 18 bullets)
• Remain the ability to deal bonus headshot dmg
• Minimal increase to outer reticle size
• Minimal decrease in recoil shake

Battle Rifle:
• Increase RoF to closely match vanilla H4/5
• Slightly increase hipfire and smart scope RRR
• Slightly decrease bullet dmg (the BR is still a 4 shot kill, but will now become a true 4 shot kill now taking 12 bullets instead of 11)
• Minimal decrease in recoil

Magnum:
• Removed the ability to smart scope

Shotgun:
• Removed the ability to smartscope

Sniper Rifle:
• The second zoom is reduced from 9x to 8x

SMG:
• Minimal decrease in recoil shake

SAW:
• Removed the ability to smart scope

About the aim assist: I think they could just make it work as H2A multiplayer, looks perfect to me.

I would actually prefer getting rid of ADS at all :slight_smile:

Mm, I never liked the bonus head damage, I would prefer it to get 32 mag capacity

Ok to everything but the third point, better leave some mistake margin, the majority of the community is not competitive for what I know.
In fact Halo 5 got criticism also to its competitive aspect.

We don’t know what weapons will be returning other than the halo reach assualt rifle model, now the battle rifle might get change to probably a classic look i hope. Y would you want the AR at 30 bullet per mag return it to 32 lol

Remove H4/H5 BR, set H2BR as default BR, we don’t want to watch Magnum vs Magnum all the time in Tournament matches, boring. We want to see Magnum BR Carbine etc…

I’d prefer to have both of em just like in Halo 5. Technically, there’s 2 different BRs the BR55 series and the BR85 series. I also agree to have the BR as the main starter in tournament again. Honestly, why didn’t they use BR starts during the beginning of H5 HCS? It was so damn good and seeing AR/Magnum starts was jarring.

I mean aesthetically it’s ADS, but in terms how other games utilize it. It doesn’t have flinch and penalty to movement. The only thing that makes it ADS is due to the increased accuracy in the weapons during the first 2 years of Halo 5. It was never like that in any Halo game considering all scopes did was just zoomed in and increase the weapons effective range. Although, I personally like it cause it gives players a better sideview other than H4s obnoxious scopes.

As for the AR, I found it jarring how it just has 2 bullets more than in real life ARs does. I usually picture most ARs havin’ a standard 30 mag lol.

I may disregard the 3rd list for the BR.

I should’ve added this, but I probably would’ve added a small recoil climb to the Magnum as a way to balance for its extreme accuracy.

Speaking of changes, here is a pretty good video about the weapon sandbox from Favyn which highlights the flaws of the utility weapon mechanics and how it should be done in the future.

As far as sweeping changes go, I would rather just see Smart Scope removed as a universal weapon mechanic. If you like the aesthetic of smart scope vs classic zoom fine I guess, but we need to get back to having only certain weapons being capable of using scopes.

Whether or not a weapon is capable of scoped fire is too important as a balancing and design tool to just throw on every single weapon. All smart scope in Halo 5 accomplished was making the sandbox feel less diverse and interesting. To use an example, the ODST SMG would be an interesting addition to a classic Halo sandbox since we have not had scoped automatic weapon like that before, but put that same weapon in Halo 5 were every automatic weapon has some degree of zoom then it loses its unique position in the sandbox.

More broadly speaking I also just want the sandbox to either trimmed down somewhat or give much of the sandbox a radical overhaul. Every weapon needs a truly unique place in the sandbox besides being a faction reskin of an existing weapon with only the tiny amount of differences. We don’t need 4(not including req variants) versatiel precision rifles, 4 automatic spray weapons, two near identical sniper rifles, two shotguns, and 3 tracking weapons.

  • For the Assault Rifle I am all for removing the smart scope (scoped assault rifle doesn’t feel like Halo to me, but I would say instead of lowering the magazine increase it back to 60 rounds in it’s classic Combat Evolved glory. - For the BR I would say 11 or even 10 is the right amount since not every 3rd shot would connect. I would want to either match H2 or H3 for gunplay. - So in hopes that pistol dual wielding comes back I would say split the UNSC Pistol into the M6D (2x scope, 4 hit kills, cannot dual) and the magnum (no scope, unshielded headshot kill, one handed) - When I heard the shotgun had a scope I immediately though of the bipod knife, what is next, smart scope for a sword. Yeah shotguns don’t need scope. - Depending on the maps, If we start to get some real large maps (Forge World) we should have 4x and 10 x scope. If not then the classic 4x and 8x is fine. - Keep the recoil but make it one hand (also bring back dual wielding) - No scope for SAW. Increase range reduce recoil at close ranges but spread can increase at longer ranges.
