Halo infinite Wasp balancing

i Think the wasp is to good. it completely dominates the BTB map Highpower. it has to much health and has enough range to control the map from a safe distance, and since the weapon racks are random you might not get a hydra on your side of the map.
here’s how i would fix it: kinetic weapons should do more damage.

It can also be 1 shot skewered out of the sky and easily disabled with a shock rifle, it is weak if people know to how to deal with them with those weapons.

But that’s the problem right there, you’re listing two weapons to deal with the wasp that relies on skill and intimate weapon knowledge and are the two weapons that a player hates to use because of they way they function.

The anti wasp weapon should be the hydra, but it’s been heavily nerfed compared to 5’s base model that it doesn’t do a good job in the hands of an average player against the wasp. So instead, you’re left to the players in the game who know how to use the skewer and the rifle. If they don’t get their hands on those weapons, the wasp dominates.

So use the weapon that is almost always already taken by people sniping other Spartans or compete for a power weapon that may not even spawn on the map and also is in heavy demand?

Also don’t get killed by the wasp on your way there since they may have already established map domination.

All this to counter a vehicle that requires no teamwork at all.

Usually when people are talking about Wasp balance, I assume they are referring to Highpower. And you just nailed all the issues with the Wasp on that map.

Each team is guaranteed a wasp, but each team is not guaranteed a Shock Rifle or a Hydra (in fact the alternatives of those weapons are completely useless against a Wasp). And the secondary spawns for those weapons are in location that are highly exposed to the enemy. Finally, the Hydra can be countered by just flying upward, out of target-lock range.

A skewer is not promised to spawn on the map, and personally, I find it to be extremely hard to hit the flat profile of the wasp.

All of this while the you can’t really avoid fire from the wasp because there is not overhead cover. And Obviously you still have to contend with the other 11 enemies who likely also got a tank in the latest unfair pelican drop.

And H3-H5 already solved this problem with the plasma pistol. It’s “weak” tier 1 weapon this readily available both in the base and in the middle areas. It can stop both land and air vehicles (because of lock on). So if you ever needed to get rid of a hog, tank, banshee or whatever, you had SOMETHING you could use that wasn’t on a 3 minute timer.

But the PP only EMP’d so you had to rely on hijacks, and nades to finish the job.

Just plink at it with your AR or Sidekick. You’ll take it down.

Have you actually tried that since they made it tougher a while back? It’s a recipe for dying over and over.

vehicles should have shields except its also tied to its health. The problem with halo 5 was people would take damage, run away, recharge shields and repeat. it felt like their vehicles were indestructible.

How it should be is, for example, i have 100% health, if i lose 100% shields then it costs me 20% health. If I lose 10% shields then i lose 2% health. Basically the shields are good but leaky.

if a system like this exists, you can make it where vehicles have the potential to die quick if you catch them off guard with any weapon as a team but a good pilot can last a long time but eventually die from an accumulation of damage. With this system, a wasp high in the sky not using cover is just asking to be killed. now you have a wasp that is more fun to shoot at other players and more fun ffor players to take out the wasp .

i havent played btb in a while but i remember warthogs already works like this a little. Often you get killed in the warthog rather than the warthog blowing up but it makes it too easy to steal vehicles.

Highpower just isn’t a fun map, in my taste, generally. One side is heavily disadvantaged over the other: having a large “wall” and doorway between the base and the mid-map vehicle spawn; and having an elevated tower position opposite the base that favours the enemy shooting into your base — with your team lacking any real way to attack back, and not having an equivalent tower to take advantage of against your opposition. The other team has pretty flat terrain around their base, while your side gives a lot of elevation cover for enemies to just get into your base, and in particular, use vehicles to escape with your flag, as the line of sight between defenders and the vehicle is easily broken.

The wasp exacerbates this — letting the opponent pilot shoot fish in a barrel.

343 hasn’t touched BTB game balance in an entire year, with team and budget cuts I wouldn’t expect them to make changes to BTB ever.

Yeah I have, it tends to scare them away. If the whole team of… checks notes Ah! 12 friggin’ people did it, it’d die in a heartbeat, but everyone’s too worried about the easy option.

Best way to balance the Wasp is cut it, and bring back the Falcon! Stop replacing fan favorites for the sake of “balance.”

Mm, for the falcon to be effective, it required teamwork. That’s typically how vehicles in Halo worked. Even the scorpion and wraith are better with the gunner to help protect against boarding (and they’re on the ground, with players being able to board from the front and back — which goes without mentioning being able to more easily throw or stick grenades to them).

Meanwhile, the wasp can just hover and shoot, and only has one operator. The banshee only has one too, true, but can’t hover stationary, and phaeton had the same issue as the wasp. It’s fine for Warzone Firefight or Campaign, but poor in Multiplayer.

So your solution is too do the impossible by getting 11 team mates I can’t communicate with outside of pinging the wasp, to work together on a plan that will involve most of them dying in order to take out a single Spartan in a vehicle.

You would have been excellent as a WW1 general organising the bayonet charges of enemy machine guns.

Good points!

I think that as with many changes (like the bulldog,) I would have welcomed the Wasp had it not replaced a personal favorite of mine.

Just shut up and shoot the Wasp lol.

Unfair pelican drop drive me nuts. :triumph:

yeah, especially when the unfair pelican drops a tank and a wraith on the enemy side before your team can even get the tank to drop

I just want to see how Highpower plays with Banshee spawns instead of Wasps.
