Halo Infinite - Update on Latency & Geofiltering

Dont give them ideas.
Theyll charge us to watch our own gameplay films at this rate.
Whatever changes they made to theater dont work, in any event.
Hence- broke af
And its supposed to get fixed eventually…
I know its not a priority.

You just completely whiffed that point, huh?

No other dev has this issue. The problem is on them.

Also note, I never used geofiltering. Yet I now can’t play because of this change.

As you said, “it’s not hard”.

So, again, players who didn’t use it are “bad actors” now?

How about people with ISPs that have it by default? Are they just not allowed to play halo ever because of having limited ISP options?

One final time, since it really feels like you’re intentionally not reading the entirety of what’s been written: this isn’t a problem for any other game, nor any other developer. 343 chose to make it a problem, they could have properly fixed.

And so those of us who can’t play now are just supposed to say, “oh well”?

I literally cannot connect to the game servers about 60% of the times I launch the game now because some random server decided not to connect. I have no geofiltering at all, neither manually set up nor through my ISP.

And again: why should we blame players for wanting to play a video game without lagging? Those players would argue that the people who can match into servers near them have a competitive advantage, and that they were at a disadvantage. If 343 had set up matchmaking properly (like literally every other game does), this would have been a moot issue.

No, I didn’t. I merely pointed out how you shouldn’t blindly believe 343, given their track record.

343 did the same thing. They just told a story and expect people to believe it. It’s nothing more than their word against another.

343, this is YOUR FAULT, not geofilterers.

YOU did not include a Halo 5 or MCC-style server selection system, a BASIC FEATURE.
YOU did not include anti-cheat for wall-hacks and aimbots. Again: A. Basic. Feature.
YOU did not include a way to QUICKLY report suspected cheaters in-game. (Tying it to Waypoint and having me fill out a massive form? Really? When other games have had a quick and easy “report, send game statistics, and a little blurb about details for moderators to look for” system?)
YOU did not release a game that was even CLOSE to what your previous titles have been in terms of basic completeness.

Are there some geo-filtering players with bad intentions? Yes, there’s always people with bad intentions.

But the MAJORITY of geo-filterers were just trying to PLAY THE GAME without being pulled into bot lobbies.
Without 200-300+ ping because players were getting matched onto servers across the world because YOUR matchmaking system is broken. With minimizing getting pulled into actual malicious geo-filtering because, guess what, choosing what servers WE play on, negates other, more malicious players from dragging us into servers THEY want to play on, unless it’s a server neither has geofiltered out, which means they’re far more likely to have a more level playing field.

When the game came out in November, at first I was doing pretty good, had low ping, few issues, but as soon as it started with players falling off, more and more I was getting pulled into lobbies from across the world, full of "Player 12360q73127430"s who, yes, were geofiltering maliciously and who were ALSO using wallhacks and cheating bots.

So? I did the only thing I could do to STILL ENJOY THE GAME, I blocked all non-North America servers. My pings went down to an average of about 50ms, I was playing with REAL people who had REAL gamertags (occasionally I’d find a bot or a blatant “player 35067510124” cheater, but not almost every single game like before), I did run into the dreaded “shot behind walls” issues but nowhere near as bad as FOUR SECOND PING, and I was legitimately having fun with HALO most of the time.

I should not have HAD to geo-filter to enjoy the game. I should not have HAD to change obscure PC settings (or router for XBOX) to avoid ACTUAL malicious cheaters.

YOU. DID NOT. PROVIDE. BASIC. ANTI-CHEAT. FEATURES.

So stop blaming others, and FIX -YOUR- ISSUES.

At this point, I really don’t think you are reading anything that’s been said here.

Why is it that 343 has an issue where no other dev has? Where no other Halo game has?

Microsoft isn’t a third party. The setting is literally within Windows itself.

Plus some ISPs literally have it as default. This is on 343.

He said ISP provider. Is that not a third party?

Which misinformation? Are you talking about me or Raansu?
Quote and proof of any misinformation being passed out, s’il vous plaît.

EDIT: Stop editing crap into your posts after you already sent them.

Where did they provide proof? Those numbers? How are they proof? Are they taken from one specific game that actually happened? Where is the data stored? Which servers were in play? Who were the players? Do we have screenshots of the individual pings from all eight players?

And what are people supposed to do when the only ISP in their area uses geofiltering?

Seriously. Come on.

Umm. Find another option that doesn’t involve breaking matchmaking? 343 said they’d turn a blind to this stuff if it wasn’t serious.

They handed out bans for crying out loud.

Some people literally have no other option for ISPs…

There’s a reason that 343 is the only dev to have this issue.

And what pray tell would be the reason?

So they can what? Have a scapegoat? In case you haven’t noticed thats the CM pretty much.

There’s no reason a solo player should ever end up on a server from across the -Yoink!- ocean, period. Implement something in your mobile, f2p, indie company, cash shop - game to stop this from happening. Then you wouldn’t even have to go on a witch hunt, and ban pros for something so hilariously pathetic and petty.

Because 343 set up their matchmaking system differently than the older Halo titles and other games.

I’m not saying they’re trying to scapegoat. I’m saying they designed the Matchmaking system backwards, which negatively impacted player experience. But instead of working on said system to bring it inline with older systems, they chose to double down on it.

Because, again, no other dev has an issue with geofiltering.

He said some ISP providers do it on their own. That does not fit the claim of “You’re screwing with the matchmaker via a third party” unless they are working at that ISP and are actively affecting the servers being blocked.
If you wanted to do it on your own, the setting is openly accessible within Windows, a product from the identical company that released the game, therefore not a “third party”.

Servers may show 30ms but the game feels so much worse. And no, i wasn’t using geo filtering.

At this pointi would even believe it if 343 just puts a number up and the same sh 1 t as always happens in the background

They also handed out bans for people who constantly had the game crashing on them because it released in an unfinished state. I know, I got one of them at some point.
343 making stupid decisions is not a reliable argument for this being in any way the player’s fault.
