Halo Infinite - Update on Latency & Geofiltering

P2P would never be used or you’d revert back to halo 2 lobbies pulling host- I think it’s much easier to actually cheat undetected with P2P too. a
Adding artificial lag to players would make the game just look more laggy for everyone- not a great solution.

The solutions are forcing the ultra simulation setting on PC and maybe the old Xbox. Allowing region select- people just want to see an option highlighted at this point. And then more servers.

No halo game has had as many lag issues and specifically issues with phasing and non registering melees/bullets unless you were clearly lagging. Maybe the issue is the overall compensation is better so when you’re lagging it’s a lot less noticeable until you get one of those non registering hits and it’s more jarring than seeing yourself rubberband miss melees and then go to a connection screen. Player speed may be an issue too idk

Yep, pretty much it: people are going through the hassle of fixing something just because they want to get better ping and make yours bad.

The actual solution to this is to give consumers CHOICE - i.e the ability to select servers.

This is so obvious to me & everyone else.

The reasons why you are banning geofiltering are literally what everyone else outside of NA has had to put up with as standard.

A little more information would be cool.
For example, what difficulties are they encountering and dealing with cross platform?
It would be kind of funny if lots of issues dissapeared if they disabled crossplay!
Why not do another round of flights?
Could you just replace the user interface? Why not?

I do appreciate all the technical stuff, but we dont need it. We need big picture stuff. We need warmth and distraction, and humor.
We all know that making a cross platform game is difficult and elite…
But we want to know basic stuff. And we want you to interact when talking about basic stuff. What do we have to look forward to?
For example-
Are we getting pve? The typical response has been “the team is looking into it”, we need to hear, or just get a peek of it. What are some community ideas for it? Flood firefight?
The new xp system, whats up? Take and discuss ideas briefly.
How about a clip showing what campaign coop looks like?
A cool new feature for forge?
The silence about everything before and after release just felt and feels ominously wrong.
And you scrapped the old message board, eliminated the old stats, built a brand new waypoint, and theres like no interaction between the community.
And fix the 152 skin already.

I hope so much that thinks will work out well, since nowadays besides the core sandbox play, matchmaking is a main factor, at least unless you dont have like 23 friends available all the time you want to play.

I have to admit, I am old school and skipped halo 2,3, reach and 4 multiplayer completely and was playing Halo CE on my old PC till 2018 till 5 convinced me to upgrade and finally get an xbox.

I point this out because for me and many other unheared players, playing my favored stock maps with players modded mods or custom created maps on a handpicked dedicated server with my favored ping on an open clan server from the Game Spy Lobby is somethin which is barely the same since ye old days and I will always prefer that over xp collection, statistics and earnable cosmetics or challenge medals.

If You bring back dedicated server options and a solid modding and map making tool kit its a win. You will see there will form a lot of micro communities around clans, mods, servers and modding gods.

The strategy of full controll over server and map releases kind of sets you in charge to deliver and be responsible for your own succeedings. Giving options for dedicated server is a source for ROI too, not just paintings and challenge systems.

However, hope You got a plan over there for the next big throw that will change an entire direction of a FPS game and franchise!

Bring Geofiltering back, I keep getting 150+ms matches, before the update i was getting 40ms games always. this is so bad at least let us choose the region

Hopefully with forge we can get a fix/improvement to custom games.

Can’t wait to see what the PC community cook up. Hopefully they approve mods.

Well, now that geofiltering is banned, my games (EU-playere here) are back to only 15 ms again :slight_smile:

And at first i didn’t get lag issues either. However, now it’s evening the lag is coming back again… It almost seems like the EU-server just doesn’t have enough capacity to host all the players that are playing in the evening… Perhaps that is the issue, lack of capacity? Any other EU-players that have the same experience?

EU? Here! What I experience too is at the later hours of the day is a slightly worse server performance, my explanations for this is because of less players in our region we are connected to the more distance ones.

I am fine with waiting a minute longer to just let the server find enough local players.

However, the concept of IP constant dedicated servers with constant ping that can be selected as in Halo 1 PCs Game Spy lobby would solve this issue completely.

Do you care about the game experiences you ruined for others while you geofiltered?

So it’s fine getting the game experience ruined by default? 343 could easily fix the problem without screwing all non US ppayers over. again.

It’s not his fault that 343i implemented a completely backwards matchmaking system that can allegedly be so easily manipulated by players that use geo filter. The blame for this still remains solely at the dev team for implementing such a piss poor matchmaking system not the players that can use geo filter on hundreds of other games without any unintentional adverse impact on other players.

This is so stupid, 200 ping games now from Australia most times. Let us pick server regions. Shocking player experience.

42ms game. Backsmaked a guy, who was litterally running away from me, he doesn’t die. Follow it up with half a mag of AR, he doesn’t die. He turns and melees me from in front, I die.

Working out so far. I’d say it’s about the same or worse but the pings look better.
