Hey everyone – the team has been working hard to bring improvements to the game across the board. In this week’s post we’ll be focusing on the recent BTB updates and touch on ranked matchmaking. Let’s dive in!

Big Team Battle
Yesterday we released an update that focused on addressing the issues many of you were seeing in Big Team Battle. It’s only been a day, but our data shows that matchmaking success rates have returned to normal. Combining that with community reports of smooth matchmaking, we’re pretty confident in saying that BTB is back – and now, better than ever.

Along with this update, we also managed to squeeze in two community requested changes to Big Team Battle itself.

  • When searching with a party, all members of your lobby will be marked appropriately as members of your Fireteam in the match. We know it’s not ideal to end up in a different squad lineup, but for now, even if a player from your party doesn’t show up in your intro camera lineup, they’ll still appear as part of your fireteam throughout the duration of the match.

  • Tank Beats Everything. We’ve updated the Pelican vehicle deliveries to drop tanks (M808 Scorpions & Wraiths) earlier, and more often in matches.

Bot Backfill Difficulty
Next week, the Bot backfill difficulty will be increased from Marine to ODST. This means that when a player leaves and gets replaced by a Bot, that Bot will now be at the ODST skill level. We hope these ODST Bots can help your team out when they drop feet first into your matches.

Ranked Matchmaking
We’ve been keeping a close eye on Ranked since launch. The team has been monitoring data, pairing that up with community reports and feedback, and has some updates they’d like to go after during this season.

Since we’re going to be making some improvements mid-season, we plan on resetting Competitive Skill Ranks (CSR). After implementing these updates and giving everyone a fresh start, we expect to see players get redistributed more accurately.

As we get closer, we’ll be sure to give everyone a heads-up on when exactly they can expect all this to land. If you’re close to that next rank, now’s the time to go after it!

@Unyshek Thank you for the update. Could we please get clarity on the MMR ranked issue that’s been brought up recently on reddit and in recent youtube videos, to better understand the relationship between MMR in social playlists affecting the matchups in ranked?

About the BTB update: I can get into BTB matches now but I’m starting to skip around, enemies are skipping, vehicles are skipping, etc. I know the popular argument with any connection issue is to blame the user and their internet, but I’ve never skipped around (in Halo Infinite specifically) a day in my life.

About the upcoming Bots changes: Can y’all just remove Bots please? A dedicated mode against Bots is fine, but at any difficulty they are just such an annoyance. It’s not fun when a teammate quits and a Bot takes their place and now that’s a free kill for the enemy and vice-versa.

Good to see the game getting some QOL on top of the important fixes. Hope to see Tactical Slayer introduced as a Ranked playlist in the future. It’s not a social mode in any prior title apart from MCC, and realistically shouldn’t be in Infinite. Hopefully soon.

Can we please get some more weapons.

I miss the h5 saw.

I know this isn’t the topic to suggest it, but BTB makes me wish we had more weapons as things well get a bit stale after a while.

WEapon suggestions

Hard light sniper

info: a sentinel weapon, this sniper acts like a mix between the binary rifle and halo 3 sniper, its projectile able to reflect and get bank shots.

gameplay: a 3 round mag, with a 4 and 8x scope. Shots bounce and is a 2 shot body shot 1 shot head shot. Unlike the human sniper can’t damage vehicles.

m247H dismounted
info: pre dismounted m247’s spawn as power weapons or in weapon drops. lack the front shield.

UNSC flamethrower
info: we need an area denial tool taht isn’t the ravager.

Halo CE shotgun, halo 2 carbine, fuel rod gun, storm rifle, ETC please bring back the clasics.

Why not add an appropriate bot difficulty to that specific match the way you would match a player based on MMR?
An ODST bot would be a competent replacement in very low MMR matches but in higher ones it just there to feed kills.

I’m excited to see how the higher difficulty plays out. I say give it a chance. ODST aren’t near the pushover that the marine are.

Will the items earned from obtain the next tier in ranks be reset or will those stay the same? Like when we reach onyx will we still get the recon weapon charm? I have not yet earned onyx (I’m sadly not quite close either) so I dont want to miss the chance to get those items if they change when the update roles around. However fixing the ranked settings themselves I feel is great.

I don’t seem to “teleport” around the map any more in BTB than in any other mode. I think maybe if I play an entire day, a couple of times I suddenly get a single rubber banding teleport or a couple at most.

As for the bots, just to give my opinion, I think they’re good in social matchmaking. It’s such a let down when people quit and you’re left alone with your buddy, in my matches the bots get at least a couple of kills, so with a harder difficulty I think they’re great. And not having them in ranked where it obviously would be unfair to give “free kills” to the enemy is common sense.

I would assume the rank rewards will remain the same. Basically what he is saying is, if you’re diamond 6 right now, get that onyx before the reset.
