Halo Infinite - Thoughts

Hey guys,

So I was lucky enough to be selected to be a flight tester for this round and I have to say the game is looking like it could be an all time high for the Halo series. I have always held a bit of fear for Halo in the post Reach era and have always felt like Reach was the pinnacle of Halo, but I do genuinely believe Infinite has the ability to take its place and bring Halo back to relevance in the modern world.

The game is far from polished, but I definitely am so excited to see 343 do these flights as it gives the ability to fix these things early and make the changes required.

Pros:

  • The layout of the menu and general use of the interface is amazing. I’m on Series X and while half the assets don’t load correctly in the Battle Pass etc as an example the UI is snappy and responsive. - Gameplay is about the right pacing. I recently replayed MCC and found the old Halos in regards to modern games is slow, and not like somewhat slow, very slow. Infinite seems to have sped itself up and gotten to a good balance of methodical play and rush in and kill/die.Cons:

  • Guns feel a little unbalanced at the moment. The shotgun doesn’t feel like a game changer or stalemate breaker which it should be, and the needler seems to kill you before you realise someone’s shot you (potentially the needles need to be bigger and brighter) - Something feels off about when you are getting shot and either registering where you are getting shot from, and the visual indicator of being shot doesn’t seem to be enough either. It’s hard to react to where you’re getting shot from.Other than that, I have to say Infinite fills me with a sense of excitement for where the series is going. While the launch was reminiscent of the MCC launch (which gives me the sh*ts because that almost killed my faith in 343), the work in the background that was done to get it back online and working was phenomenal and a standout to me.

Cheers guys
