Halo: Infinite Thoughts and Opinions Radar, UI,etc

Hey, Defend here! So I was thankful enough to have been invited to test Halo: Infinite during the tech preview this previous weekend. Right off the bat ill say that the game is very well polished and loads of fun. It honestly felt like a brand new version of Halo, while still maintaining the “Halo feel” to it. With that being said, there were a couple things I would like to point out. Lets jump right into it.

  1. Halo has always been known for its competitive nature with the classic hip fire gameplay, something I adore. The game naturally is more difficult to master than games such as, Call of Duty or Destiny. In those games you have the benefit of ADS with insane aim assist, which inherently slows down gameplay. Halo you essentially run n gun the majority of the time. One thing I would say with Infinite in the preview was that was a huge factor. Either learn to aim, or get smacked. While I love that approach and i think its something that is needed, I “guess” there is room for improvement in this field. I say “guess” because honestly I am 100% comfortable with the aiming and amount of aim assist and if it stays this way, I actually would love it. But I have seen many people here and on other forums crying out about this situation. So maybe there could be a middle ground to help both sides. maybe not increase aim assist. But improve controls slightly as far as aiming is concerned. That’s all I will say on that.

  2. Radar. This was an immediate issue as soon as PVP went live. The first game I played, consisted of the opposing team camping walls waiting for precision weapons to spawn,(which is a whole other issue in its own) and essentially abusing the radar while our team moved around the map attempting to make plays. While camping is part of FPS games, the fact that the radar literally never pings this said “camping” player, made it increasingly frustrating when they back smack me when I hit the corner. The only time you hit radar is if your either sprinting, grappling, falling, or shooting a weapon. Other than that you aren’t there. Fix? Go back to the standard Halo 3 radar. Your on radar whether you are walking running or whatever, within a certain distance. If your crouching? after a few seconds you are seen. I actually think that may have already been a thing in the tech preview, but not sure.

3.Sniper. The sniper needs some help lol. I mean some assistance would be nice. Its to much of a beloved weapon to literally be ignored when it spawns. (trust me, I saw too many players simply run over it).

4.Gravity Hammer physics. I know this is small, but come on. I smack a kid with the hammer and he literally crumbles over unnaturally. However, I get into a punching match with one guy and I smack him halfway across the map. Just doesn’t make sense. Fix the gravity hammer blast radius physics when connecting with an opposing player.

5.The BR is fine. The Commando is fine. Actually all other weapons are tuned properly. Absolutely love the feel of the weapons in this build and I hope this is how it is during release.

  1. UI. I’m not here to name drop or anything, but Bungie has always been known for a very strong UI. Very simple to navigate, but very pleasing to look at. Sometimes you just want to sit in the lobby and gaze at your gamer tag and your spartan. Sounds weird but its a thing. Give me a cool looking nameplate and make the font on the gamer tags specific to Halo: Infinite. So when another guy looks at my stats, they see" Defend" with such and such stats and a cool nameplate and interesting colors or what not. I don’t know I’m just throwing out ideas but I would like to see an improved UI from Halo 5. No more bland colors and difficult laid out interface. Make it simple and fun to use. that is all.

These are just a couple of my thoughts and opinions of the tech build so far. Overall, this game is so damn good in my honest opinion. I’m not sure how many hours I logged but I had some pretty late night grinds literally every night. Can’t wait for the next preview!

I agree with everything. As as UI, I would love something similar to what Reach had in the multiplayer lobby.

100% Reach had an amazing UI. It also followed over to Destiny. Again, I’m not wanting to compare devs, but Destiny has an amazing UI and would love to see something like that in Halo: Infinite
