Does anyone know how the weapon got deployed onto the ring. My understanding is that the banished attacked before chief went onto Zeta Halo
She infiltrated the Halo remotely, nobody inserted her physically on the ring. Then, she neutralized Cortana. She was supposed to erase herself, then Master Chief was supposed to recup Cortana with the chip in his helmet, but Atriox prevented that to happening

There isn’t official source who explain it, so after long research on internet and forum, it’s the only explanation possible
If you pay attention to the audio logs and the cutscenes with Cortana in them, you’ll get a better picture.
The Chief DID go down the Ring to lay the trap for Cortana first, then after the trap was sprung the Banished fleet shows up and destroys the Infinity. The Infinity had been on station at the Ring for some time - hence how all the FOBs and material got down to the surface in the first place.
