I’ve only compiled negative pieces of feedback here to just to focus on elements that didn’t work out for me. Overall I had a fantastic time during the Flight and anything that I don’t mention here means I had no problems with it. Please don’t take this as the Flight being unenjoyable
Sound:
(I might be complete wrong here but the mixing was off in certain environments. Some sounds bled over others or were very quite compared to others, while some were needlessly loud and sharp despite being far away.)
-
Pads where items/weapons/vehicles spawn have a recharging sound that’s a bit too loud. It also sounds like a ringing alarm, almost like a phone ring, making it feel like it’s demanding my attention. I often got distracted by it thinking something on the map is actively notifying me. - Player grunt noises (when taking damage and whatnot) are too loud. It’s also hard to tell from where and from how far said sounds are coming from. Same with footsteps, especially friendly footsteps. I mistook friendly footsteps for enemies in indoors maps like Recharge, thinking an enemy is charging me form the back. - Most of the time, in Weapon Drills, the rack where I pick the weapon from will play a radically loud SFX, much louder than any other sound the the mode. It was quite jarring/disturbing how loud that one sound was.
UI:
(I may have missed some visual UI clues in my time playing so things listed below might be non-issues.) -
In the post-match screen where my Challenge completions are shown, it wasn’t clear to me which Challenges were weekly and which were daily. I had a hard time telling them visually apart. Some subtle shading/color-coding or making one have an outline might help distinguish them at a glance. - Couldn’t find how many weekly Challenges I had left to do before I reached the Capstone, and what the Capstone objective would be or the XP it’d reward me. - It would be nice to see my credit total in the Challenges screen as well. Or list in a corner somewhere how many of each Consumable I have without going into the Consumables screen to use them. - I’d like to see if, and for how long, I have an XP boost active on as my menu screens as possible so that I can be notified of my time left. Since it ticks down while in menus, I want to keep an eye on it as much as possible. - It’d be nice if a weapon’s damage type was indicated at all times and not shown only for a couple of seconds after switching to it. The name can hang around too instead of fading out, it doesn’t distract me as it’s at the very corner of my screen.
Equipment: -
A lot of equipment, while they hovered over the pads, looked very similar when first getting used to the game. Drop Wall, Threat Sensor, Grappleshot, Repulsor, etc. are all rectangular, shiny metallic objects. Having a little icon or some distinct colored glows under each could set them apart maybe, especially when viewed from afar. - Camo was a bit too powerful. On smaller maps, good players would go on a tear, repeatedly ambushing the whole team with one-shot weapons with no apparent way of detecting the invisible player. - Destroyed parts of a Drop Wall are hard to tell apart from full health parts under certain lighting conditions. The full health parts are very transparent and pale yellow so they aren’t immediately obvious especially if the wall is missing a bunch of its segments. Making the outline that wraps around the wall model stronger could perhaps help as that would also better mark the segments that have been shot out. Also, the individual parts of a wall felt a bit too weak, especially against certain weaponry.
Customization: -
I wish changing the body type would also make the armor smaller/slimmer, even if it’s only for certain armor parts or very subtle. I feel like I’m wearing my brother’s clothes when my body type is skinny but armor is the same size. - Would like to be able to spin my character around in any customization screen. - Would be nice to hear the AI’s voices without needing to click and go into their individual menus.
Matches: -
Please let me see how well I’m doing in Training Mode. Any stats or scoreboard would be helpful. I go into training and set goals for myself, so I’d love to be able to see my K/D and whatnot to tell how well I’m doing. Otherwise, I don’t know if I’m improving. - Just like how the scoreboard inside matches shows player names with a colored background corresponding to their team color, I’d like to see the post-match Team Lineup screen do the same. Just to make it easier to tell them apart visually, especially when the player list is long in BTB. And/or two buttons for switching between teams could be red and blue to indicate the same thing. - Also, in that post-match Team Lineup screen, who is the 4-player fireteam I’m seeing on the right when the enemy teams has 12 players? Was it the best performing fireteam on that side? - I’d like to be able to spawn alongside friends in my fireteam at the start of matches if possible. We’re sometimes put on different fireteams even tho we were grouped up, or spawn at opposite ends of our base in BTB.
Misc Gameplay: -
Radar feels unreliable now that walking doesn’t make people show up on it. I can’t gauge where players are coming from or how far they are. It felt arbitrary sometimes because an enemy might arbitrarily stop sprinting and disappear off my radar whereas a second ago I had spotted them. - Nobody seems to use the waypoint marker/ping system. It’s super useful. Perhaps the game needs to further remind players that they can do that, or incentivize it. (A Challenge where you have to ping 5 vehicles maybe?) - Plasma Pistol’s windup time and the speed/tracking of the bolt felt slow. I wasn’t able to utilize the “noob combo” at all. And the overwhelming majority of the time, the Plasma Pistol got left on the weapon racks, which to me meant almost nobody wanted to use the gun in multiplayer. - This is more of a personal wish than anything but it would be cool if some BTB matches lasted longer, just to give us more time to toy around with the more powerful vehicles, and more chances at using them. Not to mention allowing for more instances at comebacks, longer tugs of war when contesting territories etc. Sometimes, I want to keep playing a BTB match (even tho I’m losing) instead of finding a new one because I don’t want to lose the weapons and vehicles that had just dropped.
This was awesome, keep it up 343!
