Halo infinite split the player base again

343 never cared about what people want. Otherwise, Halo 4 would have never been made. 343’s mentality has always been: This is OUR game and WE decide how you will play it, and you will like it!

I’m kind of torn.

I liked the classics more and they were true Halo.

I liked H5 but realise it wasn’t Halo, if it was a different series altogether then most of the criticisms would have not been an issue at all (especially ranked with no ground pound/Spartan charge). I stuck with it mainly because of forge.

I do like Infinite and I do think they’ve done a good job balancing old and new. Reducing sprint speed, replacing abilities with pickups, art style etc are all good moves in my opinion.

I did like practising H5s skill jumps and creating training maps and parkour in forge but I again realise they were not Halo.

Another good example of why I think they’ve done a good job at balancing old and new - bank/ramp/curb slides & jumps are environment based rather than ability based and they take a lot of practice and have a good risk/reward ratio with no built in thrust to cancel should you want to change your mind.

I don’t think these comparisons are the big issue. I think the bigger issue is fixing the bugs, giving more content and changes such as the collision etc. Those being fixed would make it so much better.

In addition, things such as the social side highlighted by Mint Blitz’s latest video combined with a fixed Infinite would bring all sides together like never before

Classic Halo was always split, even back then. You had Classic (CE with M6D starts), Halo 2 (incredibly broken, but had a good BR to save it), and Halo 3 (slower paced, randomness, and bullet spreads)

So, in a way, Infinite has brought the Classic community together to even defend Halo 3, which many of use hated with a passion.

New Halo titles will intrinsically split the play base no matter what, new titles just tend to do this.

However I can see this game being a fantastic unifier in time with some additional support. While the game itself won’t replace classic/newer versions of Halo’s gameplay it can emulate it with a little more effort on 343’s part.

It essentially nearly has all the pieces needed to create the various iterations of Halo we’ve grown to appreciate in different ways, a few more sandbox additions (and the addition of Forge), some more fine tune options in the mode editor and we’ll be able to play classic Halo style matches along side Halo 5 style matches while allowing for Infinite’s gameplay to stand alone on its own two feet as well.

You are right in saying they have split the community again. But unfortunately we have to live with that and it’s impossible to turn back the hands of time.

I think the only consolation is that it’s still possible to play the three classics.

Nononono
Previously it was split into many camps, you had options.

Now you have only 2 choices.
Mcc or Infinite.
Everything is streamlined for minimum effort.

Has anyone ever considered that there is a difference between quantity and quality?

I don’t care about an infinite - pun intended - player base.
Why would I care about all those DNF early quitters?
I don’t care about PC players using a wall cheat.

I simply want to be able to select the option to play with/against other “Series S/X only” and the option to truly avoid anyone who had a DNF during their past 10 matches.

As long as I can find matches with those settings I am a very happy camper and once I don’t then it should be up to me whether I want to be less restrictive with my settings or if I then just move on to another game/product.

Congrats on not adding anything meaningful to the discussion  Would you like to try to use the same logic on someone who hasn’t played infinite recently?

No because that would be completely irrelevant to the point I was making. Maybe wait a few seconds after reading the post to make sure you fully understand it before replying?

Aside from,

your comment has no purpose and instead you chose to bring up some irrelevant topic about OP’s play time. Maybe stay on topic?

There really isn’t much of a split. There are like 5 people saying Halo 5 had the best game play and then you have 95 people saying “lol no infinite is better cause it feels classic” and then you have one guy from the Halo 5 side saying “no it’s not classic because of grapple hook and sprint.”

Actually it’s more like 5 people defending Infinite.

I even see a lot of Halo 5 topics ranging from the gameplay to the weapons. There are many areas Halo 5 is better in

I also haven’t met anyone outside this fourm(friends) that actually likes the game and if they do this is what they do.

"I like the gameplay… BUT. "

There isn’t a single person out there that doesn’t have a single issue with the game.

Maybe read the rest of the thread in which I specifically asked OP for information regarding the split player base and I got ignored completely?

I’ll take: “Statements that can literally be said about anything for $500,” Alex

Idk. Why don’t you take a good look at the threads. Even people who aren’t even talking about Halo 5 end up talking about Halo 5 because it has a feature that Halo infinite doesn’t this splitting the community in more pieces.

I do. Each day you have another way to say “Halo Infinite is bad. Halo 5 is better. But I’m still playing Halo Infinite, even though two days ago I said I was going to quit. This game is only good for two matches, even though the other day I played 22 in a row.”

Threads aren’t data. Any random person can come in here and make a thread about Halo 5 splitting the player base. But when I ask for specific information, it’s suddenly “well just look around.” Your proof is literally your own thread.

Imagine if I said “Halo Infinite isn’t splitting the player base” in a thread. And you asked me for proof, and I said “well just look at this thread and all my comments.”

What did I have for lunch July 17th 2006?

I do think the playerbase is split but more in a water is wet kind of way, as Sonic said, it always has been unfortunately. It just used to be whether you liked playing with or without thumbs (precision vs automatic), 343 has added additional points of contention.

I firmly believe that the downfall of this game however is a heated contest between no content, and bugs / decisions which ruin the gameplay that no-one wants. The biggest aspect of the split playerbase for me is that I only really have ranked or SWAT to play as I detest AR starts, and i’m not fond of SWAT.

No no no, how about we get to the root of the problem and just stay on topic eh?

The vast majority of which were made by 1 person who mostly ignored that the $60-$300 Halo 5 launched bareboned too. Comparing 5’s finished state to Infinite’s launch state.

I haven’t met people that actually like this game except the ones that do like the game but have some issues with it.

Most people also say they like Halo 5…BUT it does not feel like a halo game in anyway outside of custom games.

The people who are defending Halo Infinite like there is nothing wrong with it are in the minority too, I am aware of it. However since we are sharing anecdotes, I have many games that I love that I have at least one or two issues with. Those include the original Halo trilogy, Pyschonauts 1 and 2, Destiny 1, Warcraft 3, God of War and a hundred more games. Point is that people can have issues with something and still like the game.

It seems like people are willing to deal with infinite’s issues and keep playing the game rather than switching over to Halo 5. I would say a significant chunk went back to MCC and are waiting for the issues to be ironed out before they comeback to infinite. This is going by each game’s player population and forum attitude.

Majority of Halo players like the classic Halo and most of them agree that Infinite’s gameplay is the closest it’s been to that formula since 343i took over.
