Halo infinite should NOT be free to play

343 should really reconsider halo infinite multiplayer being free to play. I have a ton of concerns about it 1 was the micro transactions but 343 addressed that and settled my concerns with that the 2 concern I have is cheaters free to play games are plagued with cheaters a good example of this is call of duty modern warfare warzone that game is pretty much unplayable because of cheaters 343 should make the full game free through xbox gamepass it would be better for everyone in the long run it would make game pass more valuable and it would be free to everyone that has gamepass and would cut down on cheaters everyone wins

I agree. But time will tell i guess.

I give it ~3 months before it’s plagued with cheaters.

I worry potentially on the effect it will have on full game sales, but at the same time, I think it ultimately makes sense population wise given how many competitors are doing it now.

If there are lots of cheats console gamers will just turn off crossplay. There would be cheaters if it was free or not.

I kinda wish it was buy only as well as I feel players are less likely to cheat if they have money in it. The only hope is Halo really is a niche game so most who play really do just want to play and not go into and cheat and cause havoc in more popular games where a lot of players are around. But time will tell. I have a feeling after I go through the campaign and what not odds are I end up back in MCC, if any one else will even be playing, as it is more fun and not so white knuckle competitive play.

Business wise, it kind of needs to be. Infinite has been a radically expensive game to make due to its development time and with the lackluster reception of 4 and 5 by the community and the continuing downwards trend of that community it needs to gain more players and earn a lot of money, both of which are far more doable with a free to play model.

They cannot change the model this close to launch even if they wanted too. F2P is the best model currently was GAAS outside of subscription based games. Cheaters will always be an issue however they have be on XBL remember.

They could make it like that you need to play 25+ casual games or level up to a specific rank to be able to hop in ranked games.

But it is and thats the last we gonna hear on it so may as well be concerned about something you can change my friend.

A big issue with F2P is that even if a cheater gets banned, they just spin up a new burner account and continue being a troll. I dont see how this can be prevented without weekly or almost daily updates to maintain integrity.

Interestingly, Dota 2 has found a solution to this problem by updating things daily, and combining a report system which while limited weekly, crowdsources high ranked players to review reported cases before handing out bans. This ensures that most reports are reviewed in a timely manner. They reward people for reviewing cases thus incentivizing people to spend time to review such cases.

Free to play games are full of cheaters not because they’re free to play, but because they’re popular. E.g. splitgate had zero cheaters before the console beta (i.e. its recent explosion).

I’ve never completely wanted this game to be F2P. There may be both positives and negatives, but evidently the quality of the game takes damage from it, and the “for the player” mentality becomes smaller. The product ultimately is worse than we would have gotten if it was a paid game. Micro-transactions, removal of colour customization, non-optional outline system to back up the coatings, removal of emblem customisation etc.
In exchange we get a larger population. To many people this is worth it, and I completely understand that, but I would personally gladly have a slightly smaller population for a top notch quality “for the player” kinda game like MCC, and I would have payed for it for sure. It’s just not as brilliant as it could have been.
It is probably too late now, it’s gonna be free to play, and I don’t think there is much to do about it. It’s just a bit sad that it has to affect the experience negatively for those who would have actually been down to buy it.

As for hackers, feels like most games for PC have hackers whether it’s free or not? If 1% of players are hackers, even if there is a large population it’s still gonna be 1% of the people you come across, or am I wrong? I’ll switch off cross-play probably if it becomes an issue.

This would be a good idea. Competitive would always have people who were at least competent.

well it is free to play soo sad too bad deal with it or go play halo 3 on mcc

I hate F2P with a passion but a lot of full priced titles still deploy stores and all that jazz…

Too late for Halo Infinite to turn back now :frowning:
