Halo 3 had one of the best ranking system in history. I think 343 has to bring it back for casual and hardcore gamers but touch for true skill. Let’s play honest sometimes the true skill was a little unfair like winning almost 12 games I Ranking up once. 343 can do there own way also not just how bungie did it. Halo 3 felt like it wa actually a reward to rank up and see your thing . Also it would be harder to level up and make the community go hype for double exp weekends . Maybe add nameplates . also the old way to unlock armor would be great. Looks like this post got a bit famous so I know how mess up the h3 system could be 343 can fix this or wait like a week or so after launch of halo infinite to add this system. I just want a good reward system cause it was fun to see yourself rank up. 343 Can fix and I do kinda trust them on making a good ranking system.
Not that big on the trueskills at all, I just really appreciate the fact that Bungie put actual military ranks in Halo 3 rather than numbered levels like what they did with Halo 2
The thing i liked about Halo 3’s skill ranks, were indeed the military designations attached to them. Having said that… I did not enjoy all the smurfs, carries to high lvl and vice versa in the end. I know this is a possibility for other games as well, but man was it annoying in Halo 3. If they could re-add things like nameplates as you say, double exp weekends and what not, that’d be great!

Have Halo 3 ranking system since I find it the best but have Halo 2’s Multiplayer system and I’ll be a happy boy
I did prefer Halo 3’s ranking system out of them all, but Halo 5’s is good too. I’m not really too bothered by it. It’s better than no ranking system like Halo: Reach and 4.
If it return with ranking systems like on halo 3 it would be the maximum
I don’t care what form they take, I just at least want seasons gone and permanent ranks back.
Yes I do agree that military ranks based on time played (experience) and trueskill (1-50) was a fun and addictive system. It catered to both casual and hardcore fans. It should definitely return.
I haven’t met a ranking system I had any use for and that very much includes Halo 3’s. I’d much rather see them re-invent the wheel, with the attendant risk that they’ll mess it up, than have them just give us a re-tread of a bad system people can only seem to recall with their rose-colored glasses.

It was far better than anything that came after it, I did however Like the halo reach ranking system.

I would have preferred it if you had said, “I thought it was far better than anything that came after it.” It wasn’t far better than anything that came after, says this gamer. It was a horrific trainwrck of exploitability that made a mockery of anyone who took it seriously and it completely undermined the integrity of the game. Again, says me. I know there were many people who loved it and I can respect their opinions as long as I can see that they weren’t completely blind to its many shortcomings.
Halo really needs a skill based ranking system to hook players into the competitive side of the game
I think it would do big things for Halo in eSports which would push the game to a healthy and vibrant community once again
However TrueSkill is debatable, I actually studied the system in depth and in Halo 3 it was implemented badly, which caused problems
It was originally designed for implementation with a distribution between 1-100 however Bungie reduced it to the 1-50 we know today
The change causes a number of the problems, such as the apparent rank locking, which ultimately made it unpopular
If it is implemented correctly, supported by strong player conduct systems (aka. Banning cheaters) then it is a must
Otherwise a system such as ELO would be the next best thing
You lads clearly haven’t been keeping up with the Matchmaking forum section.
Bring back projectile shooting NOT stupid hitscan!! Like h3

I miss actual named ranks. Probably one of the reasons I loved reach

Every ranking system has its shortcomings, with a proper system in place to prevent boosting it could easily be better than it was. And “This gamer” is part of the overwhelming majority of players that prefer the H3 ranking system to the garbage that has been presented to us in recent years.

Halo 5’s ranking system is the same system as Halo 3 under the hood, with additional protections against boosting that Halo 3 never had
They should just make a true skill and some season playlists too why can’t you challenge yourself with a competitive season playlist without losing true skill like modified MLG or somthing. Make it so your true skill could put you in a higher bracket of players which earns you rewards and what not but who knows just some ideas. H3 made me love first person shooters because it took skill to Kill someone not just seeing them first and spraying like an idiot, H3 ranking system did need work, getting skill locked after winning 10 games straight then finding a booster that’s not moving and decreasing skill was so frustrating but still better then anything I’ve played. I hope they can bring halo 6 back to the winning circle.
Anyone keen on a custom game on halo 3 add me
itsbigwoody1 always keen to play

Well said, best comment on these forums I’ve read so far.
