Halo: Infinite Release Date: Predictions

OK! We have the general time frame of Fall 2021!

My predictions so far that came true (For both reference and a little bit of a brag. :P)

  • Bungie leaves Activision by January 2020. - Halo: Infinite will be a launch title for the next gen console. (I was correct initially.) - Xbox Series X launches on the 10th of November. (My guesses were the 10th OR 17th. My money was on the 10th though with PlayStation on the 17th or reversed.) - Halo: Infinite will launch on PC as well. So! My current predictions are narrowed to 10 days. All are on a Tuesday except one. That one is on a Monday.

September has 3 possible dates.

  • September 14th - September 21st - September 28thThe likeliest of these is September 14th.

October has 3 possible dates.

  • October 12th - October 19th - October 26thThe likeliest of these is October 19th.

November has 4 possible dates.

  • November 9th - November 15th - November 16th - November 23rdThe likeliest of these is either November 15th or 16th.

I can probably eliminate November 23rd due to it being Thanksgiving Week in the USA. While possible, I doubt it.

The first week of a month is uncommon for releases of games or consoles. I see no reason to include October 5th and November 2nd.

It does say Fall 2021. Not Holiday 2021. I think September or October is more likely than November.

For now, MY official PREDICTION is on October 19th.

My second choice is September 16th. I don’t think September is at all likely. But It is a Tuesday and only one day after Halo: Combat Evolved’s 20th anniversary.

I know it’s early. But I think we can all have a short discussion on these thoughts and what you think are likely dates.

Edits: Several date errors made. Made major corrections. I was tired at time of writing. Messed up several dates. They should all be fixed.

I think we will most likely see the upcoming Halo Infinite coming out either on October 2021 or November 2021. This can give Joseph Staten and his team at 343 Industries more time to finish doing the graphics, animations and gameplay in the new Halo video game. I also think that we will see the next Halo Infinite gameplay footage on March 2021 or April 2021.

November 15, 2021

Infinite is being touted as CE’s spiritual successor, so it’s kind of a no-brainer to release H:I on its 20th anniversary.

Which is why it’s my third guess. The reason I would suspect November 16th over 15th as the 15th is a Monday. And every Mainline Halo game, with the only exception being Halo: Combat Evolved 2001, released on a Tuesday.

  • Halo: Combat Evolved released Thursday, November 15th, 2001 - Halo 2 released Tuesday, November 9th, 2004 - Halo 3 released Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 - Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary released Tuesday, November 15th, 2011 - Halo 4 released Tuesday, November 6th, 2012 - Halo 2 Anniversary and the MCC released on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 - Halo 5: Guardians released Tuesday, October 27th, 2015The games all released on a Tuesday and Halo: Infinite should be no exception. I think the 15th is not likely.

November 15 is a Monday. Did you mean the 16th instead of the 14th?

Apologies. Yes. I will edit my post.

Also seemed to have messed up the original post. Fixed that too.

I could imagine Halo Infinite releasing on November 15, 2021 since that would be the 20 year anniversary of Halo Combat Evolved. Bonnie Ross even mentioned an anniversary in 2021. It just feels fitting.

Bonnie Ross teased a November 15th Release - or thereabouts. Halo CE released Nov 15th 2001 - she did tease that there is a anniversary coming up soon. I’d take that as a huge hint towards a November release.

Again, I will be shocked to see Halo release on any day BUT a Tuesday. I can see it releasing on the 15th. But I wouldn’t bet on it. At least not until later on when more info starts presenting itself. My predictions follow past trends, commonalities in the industry, and a tiny bit of common sense. If I went and checked every Halo, including the side games,

Halo Wars released on a Thursday
ODST released on a Tuesday
Reach released on a Tuesday
Spartan Assault released on a Thursday
Spartan Strike released on a Thursday
Halo Wars 2 released on a Tuesday
Fireteam Raven released on a Tuesday

Every single Halo game ever released was released on a Tuesday or Thursday. Never a Monday. I will eat my words if Halo releases on the 15th. It goes against every release to date. I don’t see it. I know it would be awesome. But I don’t believe it. I also can’t believe it due to people saying the same thing about Infinite in 2019 when we were predicting it then too. I was insisting the 10th or 17th. But people were saying “It’s a spiritual reboot. It has to come out on the 15th!” Not exactly. And this game is shaping up to be anything but a spiritual reboot in my eyes. Especially when they removed colors.

If you go in order of release for every game, you get…

Thursday
Tuesday
Tuesday
Thursday
Tuesday
Tuesday
Tuesday
Tuesday
Thursday
Tuesday
Thursday
Tuesday
Tuesday
Tuesday

Of all Halo titles, 10 of them released on a Tuesday and only 4 released on a Thursday.

There is a 73% chance Halo will release on a Tuesday (11/15.) And a 33% chance it lands on a Thursday (5/15.)

Holiday 2020 was not used. It said Fall 2020. Unless this changes, I see no reason to believe a November release at all. More likely October or September.

Halos released in September:

  • Halo 3 - Halo 3: ODST - Halo: ReachHalos released in October:
  • Halo 5: GuardiansHalos released in November:
  • Halo: Combat Evolved - Halo 2 - Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary - Halo 4 - Halo: MCCHalos released in February:
  • Both Halo WarsThe others released in July and April.

I ask one thing though, can you link her “tease.” I want to see it for myself. I have a theory. But it may be inaccurate and I want to be sure. It may change my official prediction. Thanks!

Edit: My theory is plausible. The Tweet by Bonnie Ross is too vague to assume it implies Halo: Combat Evolved. It technically could imply any of them, really. The ONLY Halos to have an anniversary on a Tuesday OR a Thursday are:

  • Halo Reach (Tuesday) - Halo: MCC (Thursday) - Halo 2 (Tuesday)I thank you for informing me of the Tweet.

NEW PREDICTIONS:

  • September 14th (Reach) - November 9th (Halo 2) - November 11th (Halo: MCC/ Halo 2 Anniversary)If Halo: Infinite MUST land on an Anniversary date, these are the only choices possible.

That’s why I mentioned ”15th or thereabouts”.
Its generally pretty common knowledge games/consoles release on a Tuesday or Thursday. That’s been the case for a multitude of years.

Personally my bets are on the week of the 15th Nov or the week prior.
If Bonnie and the team @ 343i want to celebrate that anniversary then I can see infinite dropping within that two week period. Also aligns pretty closely with Infinite’s original release date.

I think it’s pretty apparent that the anniversary Bonnie Ross is hinting at is clearly the 20 year anniversary of Combat Evolved lol… and just because November 15th will be on a Monday, the promotional campaign they can build off the anniversary date would definitely outweigh the fact that it’s a Monday… and not a Tuesday or Thursday lol. So many people digitally download their games now anyway, so I can’t imagine how releasing on a Monday would hurt overall sales either. And regardless if November is considered a holiday month in terms of video game releases, it is still a Fall month. Infinite will drop on November 15th, 2021, I’ll bet my bottom dollar on it.

It’s more internal than that. Publisher release dates are commercial permissions for retailers to receive money in exchange for the product. As a result the publishers release on Tuesdays because that’s when the games can be sold with as much inventory as early as possible. Sales figures and trucker transport makes Tuesday the smartest choice as well as most transport trucks will leave the warehouse on a Monday. The first day of the work week. So, yes, technically it CAN launch on a Monday. But it won’t because logistically it will hurt sales in the physical copy area and will prove a logistical nightmare for companies like UPS, FedEX, and the USPS. As well as Microsoft’s fleet of trucks and the Warehouses.

To sum it up, They can sell more on a Tuesday or Thursday than a Monday.

It wasn’t always for this reason, however. Business Insider has a story for why Tuesday was originally the chosen day. My comments above are the more modern reasons. But this is why the Tuesday launch began.

I will remind you as well, I was laughed at, called an idiot, told I don’t know what I’m talking about, in regards to Halo coming to next gen AND Halo’s release date. I was spot on both times though. And I’m not an Insider. I just use historical trends and known facts to make my judgements. While I can’t say for sure what the release date will be… yet. I can confirm it will not be on the 15th. It is likely to launch on the 16th though. With a Huge party.

Here is another reason Halo: Infinite won’t release on the 15th:
Halo: Combat Evolved is having its 20th anniversary. Not 19th. Not 21st. 20th. That is a very special day. 343 will NOT push Halo: Combat Evolved aside on its 20th Anniversary to push out Infinite. If you read the Tweet, she very easily could be implying she is excited for Halo: Combat Evolved’s 20th Anniversary and Halo: Infinite will launch Fall 2021. NOT Holiday 2021. I am still suspecting closer to September than November.

When launching a product, wording is important to avoid any lawsuits. When they say Fall 2021 and not Holiday 2021, I suspect it launches in the fall. Holiday 2021 means Winter. It will launch (at the widest possible set of dates:)
September 22nd to December 20th. But Holiday is not mentioned. So, we can remove December and most of November. If not all of November.

As I did with my other CORRECT predictions, I will stand by my opinions.

Halo: Infinite will not launch on Halo: Combat Evolved’s Birthday.

I’m hoping for the November 15/16 release date. TBH I wish they’d come out and just make a date already, I have to put my PTO requests in in January so I’d like to be able to line 3-5 days up to coincide with the launch.

And again, November is a Fall month. Regardless if it applies to video game releases as holiday season, the fact does not change that November is still a Fall month. I assume 343 didn’t say Holiday 2021 for the purpose of damage control, since so many people already began complaining when they heard Fall, so it would have been even worse if they heard Holiday 2021 instead. And the marketing campaign that Microsoft and 343 can now promote based on the 20 year anniversary date alone is an extremely significant factor, especially considering Halo Infinite is supposed to be a “spiritual reboot” of the whole franchise. Regardless if you don’t personally think it looks like a spiritual reboot, those are 343’s words. So for you to say they would never release it on the anniversary date, that is exactly the reason why they would release it on that day, and it would be viewed as a huge celebration for the community and fans. Now, as for sales being potentially hurt by releasing Infinite on that Monday as opposed to a Tuesday or Thursday, 83% of all video/computer games (since Infinite will be released on PC as well) were sold as digital format with only 17% sold as physical copy back in 2018, according to data from Statista. That was in 2018, with the percentage of games sold as digital format increasing every year over the last decade and longer (it was 79% in 2017, 74% in 2016, 69% in 2015, etc.) Plus, due to the pandemic that certain experts believe will still be a major worldwide issue leading into 2022, less and less people are making everyday in-store purchases and instead buying/downloading from online outlets. GameStop alone has already closed 783 stores globally over the past 2 years, and they’ve announced plans to shut down even more in 2021, according to an article from GamesIndustry. We all know GameStop is one of the main in-store retailers for video games, so what does that say about the overall direction and sales of physical copies for the near future? And let’s also not forget the fact that Infinite will include a free-to-play multiplayer, which will inevitably attract a substantial number of digital downloads based on that premise on its own. So, with all this data in mind, if approximately 90% or presumably even more of Infinite’s sales can be estimated to be digital downloads, releasing it on that Monday shouldn’t have a negative impact. And I suspect inventory can be rescheduled as a result so that retailers would be stocked on the previous Friday to begin distribution on Monday. The rules that the market dictates are always subject to change, so just because video games have been traditionally released on a Tuesday, that doesn’t mean this will be the industry standard for the following years. And I mean come on, unless if you’re just trying to blatantly misinterpret what Bonnie Ross (who as we know is the head of the actual company in charge of developing Halo) stated in that Tweet, she clearly hints at a connection between the release date of Infinite and an upcoming noteworthy anniversary. She definitely isn’t talking about the anniversary of Reach or MCC or any of the other games like you mentioned before she may have been. It’s pretty obvious she’s referring to the big 20th birthday of the entire Halo franchise. On top of all that, many people also speculate that Insider flighting will begin some time around May or June based on the updated release window. So for 343 to ensure the flights go according to plan and are as effective as possible, it would make sense that they have the extra months of September and October to continue play-testing for any bugs or game breaking issues, and then release the full game in November, the final month of Fall 2021. So with all that being said, I firmly stand by my prediction as well. Halo Infinite will release on November 15th, 2021. In the end, only time will tell.
