Does anyone know any information about how ranked will work on halo infinite? I’ve seen multiple sources and postings that ranked will be filtered off input device, which is obvious and makes sense. However, what about system? if I play on controller on my PC will I be allowed into a lobby with people playing on Xbox? I imagine most of the player base will still be on console unless I’m a moron so I’m just figuring out what platform I need to play on to have the biggest pool of players.
If its filtered by input device then I doubt it’d be filtered by system as well. controller pc players should be paired with and against console users, thats the point of crossplay.

The problem you’ll have here is higher powered pc’s gaining advantages from higher frame rates and resolution
PC with PC console with console
I for one am just opting out of cross play

meh. xbox series x players are going to have the same advantage over xbone players. I think ideally the pc version should have a 144 fps limit.
I’m refusing to play anyone who isn’t using the same gaming device and input method.
And of course pings.
Oh… and they have to be using the same brand and size of monitor (with the same settings for brightness, contrast, etc). And headphones - don’t forget them… can’t be up against anyone with a clear audio advantage. The same gaming chair. Air conditioning.
And God forbid they aren’t drinking energized Mountain Dew (no-sugar) and eating the same snacks. Going to suck for anyone outside of Australia because it’s Cheezels or bust.

Halo: Infinite will run on your Xbox at 60 fps - 120 fps.
You will also have access to Field of View settings.
The playing field is about as even as you can get technically speaking.

I imagine you’re pretty close on the dot here, it will likely mimic MCC’s match making in some fashion. We’ve also yet to throughly see the difference in controller vs. KBM for Infinite as this was a massive headache of a discussion in MCC PC’s early days. The solution we’re talking about IBMM (Input Based Match Making) is the product of that discourse, but we’re not sure yet if Infinite requires the same treatment as we were talking about decade of design wrapped around for controllers against the new field of KBM in Halo. For instance though; here’s what happens if you’re a KBM user playing MCC on PC.
- You’ve queued into a ranked playlist, opting for preferred inputs to be KBM. - At this point, you’ve either gotta into a match or the player pool has been expanded to include controller users who haven’t opted into the IBMM. - You’ve found a match. However, finding an all KBM ranked match is incredibly rare, speaking from experience.
No one’s mentioned this yet… so the competitive (ranked) playlists for Infinite are going to only be split by input device, not platform. (MnK vs Mnk only, and controller vs controller only).
But the last Infinite esports news post that came out said that there are going to be open online tournaments that won’t have input restrictions (someone please correct me if I’m just totally off base). So in those tournaments specifically, it sounds like it’s basically however youth want to compete you’ll be good if you get a registered team.
So 99% (completely made up percentage) of players will experience input based competitive match making. But there will be random ad hoc opportunities for some players to have unrestricted input competitive opportunities (if they can get a team together for the comp)

Lmao what? No. You’re not going to get them filtered by device. The major flaw in this logic is I can be playing on a 4K 120hz display and someone can be playing on a 720p 30hz one. They have no way to regulate what sort of display someone is running. There will always be variation/advantages in setup. If this were the case, why not filter the controller players based on normal controller vs Elite or Scuf while we’re at it.

I swear some of these people actually want to go back to 2005 to game.
Unpopular Opinion…but using the MnK has a clear advantage over Controler players is a crutch…I play Halo with both…Controller was more natural to me in Halo but what do I know…only been playing 20 years.
