I’m all for equal starts, I think it’s why I like the ranked playlist over anything else -except maybe attrition.
But you’re right, I don’t know the mountain of work involved to create a game from scratch, but halo has been around long enough and developed a reputation for itself - how on earth could we leave out certain playlists that are IMO critical to the multiplayer experience.
I have to be honest I prefer the gameplay style over H5 it feels more halo and I was blow away by it. -however the first time I jumped into multiplayer I was looking around for FFA and couldn’t find it…I believe my exact words were “where the #### is FREE-FOR-ALL?”….to me that was just a jaw dropper, let alone it not be a ranked playlist.
The whole thing felt awesome and honest to halos roots, whoever developed that aspect, but everything else has been so out of touch and low effort. I honestly don’t understand how anyone kept their jobs.
One thing does teethe me… we talk about KD and kill rates, finding individual skills and winning games.
Why is Trueskill2 linked with a visible rank?
TrueSkill is good at matching us with similar skilled matches. But no way should it be linked to a visible rank that you move up and down on within a Team game.
That’s certainly the way it appears. Like the old saying “git gud”…. It’s not perfect, nothing is and if it was perfect I wouldn’t be here giving feedback…lol
Haha I always remember getting so annoyed with Reach after been team shot by not only the opposition but my two team mates behind me fighting to get the most kills.
The ranking system in Reach was like free for all!
I’m surprised we are still going in the same direction!
I’m absolutely sick of this ranked system. Can a 343 employee responsible for this system please explain why, as a plat 5-6 player, the below have been the last 21 people I have been matched with or against for ranked games? I did some very similar analysis less than two days ago and the exact same pattern was there in those games. I’d love to know, really. I don’t honestly care about all the detail of how it perfectly balances the teams. If the lowest person on the team is completely out classed every game then it is not an effective ranking system. I don’t even care about ranking. The reason I play ranked is to have a fair experience against people at my skill level. You may see from the below that the system is utterly failing at that.
The objective of a ranked system is to play you against people of a similar skill set and allow you to prove yourself better than them or worse, and move you up and down accordingly. Why on earth am I playing against onyx’s at all, let alone nearly every game. Oftentimes there are 2 or even 3 Onyx’s in my games?!
And what’s worse, after being chucked in as cannon fodder time and time again in ranked to fill up teams I then go back to social where the system forces me to AGAIN play super challenging matches. Who does this system suit? Genuinely? Sometimes all I want after work is to play a few fair games of a game I enjoy. This system makes it absolutely impossible to do that.
The four matches above were all in one sitting, after a day of work. I played for fun, I got an absolute sweat fest against onyx’s.
Just to say to all you onyx players complaining about the Plats and golds on your team…. We don’t want to be there either, that’s for sure.
I agree it hasn’t worked - at least the number part.
In Halo 5 it was just Onxy players who saw their number.
I don’t know why they suddenly needed to make it visible to everyone. I’m sure they saw how it oscillates around your rank. It must of occurred to them that this would be frustrating?
And I think they did - which is why the bar shows your MMR change per session and not per game - to try and take the focus of the change per game.
Maybe they underestimated the inflated importance people would put on the actual number. How toxic they would become in an effort to grind it as high as they could.
They need to drop back to simple divisions and tiers ASAP.
Let alone this happen and the expectation to have either a neutral or positive k/d.
The system absolutely must reward lower tier players on some other basis in these situations.
I’ve have experienced this, although not as extreme or frequent -however I have played full lobbies similar to this and went neutral and didn’t really get anything out of the exchange. -you’re almost never coming out positive.
It’s almost like by the time you break out of platinum you’ll already be onyx.
Now it all makes perfect sense. I played quick play almost exclusively for months, racked up a decent 2.00kdr and then jumped to ranked…. And now I’m playing onyx and Diamond 6s as a platinum.
At least my experience actually makes some sense now. So the solution for me is to bomb my next 20 social games and then ranked will decide to give me easier opponents. Good stuff, great system.
That Reddit post is actually super misleading and dumb. We already know that your MMR is linked between playlists. It’s very openly stated in Trueskill2 that is a new feature that helps players be ranked more appropriately across playlists.
But what the player is doing is tanking social games to lower their expected MMR, then playing far above that MMR. Something you couldn’t do if you were legitimately ranked. Lowering your MMR is counterproductive to ranking up.
To put it simply. I could throw every social game and have them assume my MMR is 500. I would then be put in ranked lobbies against 500 rates players. I could kill these players easily and win games with my MMR of 1700 (smurfing) then my MMR will increase and so will by rank to move towards my rising MMR. However, this is only because the player is obviously a higher rank than where their placement games have been, they admitted it themselves. To be a true test, they should have played at the best of their ability in the placement games. They would then find this system does not work appropriately.
If a normal player sandbagged in social to lower their MMR then played ranked they would not be able to rank up due to this because their assumed MMR would now be lower than their CSR so they would be more punished for a loss and less rewarded for a win than if they didn’t sandbag in social. This played gained MMR after these games but would have gained significantly more than that had they not been throwing in social therefore is not a good strategy for players wanting to rank up. They’re spreading massive amounts of disinformation via Reddit.
Also who throws that many games just to dominate some players wanting to enjoy ranked, they’re a -Yoink!- that’s ruining other people’s games. I hate smurfs because I want ranked to be a fun place for people of all skill levels and I always ruins the experience for lesser skilled players. Happens to me in loads of other games.
So we are not going to comment on the fact that Bot Bootcamp affects your MMR?
PATHETIC.
Anyway, I suggest you read the post with more attention.
The whole point is that by linking the two playlists you can exploit it to be thrown directly into a Top 50 match because the system thinks you are a god. And because you can actually lower you MMR in social playlists, you are not punished if you lose.
Yeah, I don’t know how much this would affect someone who is already Diamond or Onyx (for example) and just starts sandbagging social to attempt to get easier matches in ranked. My guess is that they would have to sandbag a lot more than a dozen games to have much effect.
The issue with having a lower MMR means easier games but your gains/losses of CSR depend on it. Means you’ll gain less for wins and lose more for losses.
The absolute last thing you ever want to do when you are trying to rank up is lower your MMR. Higher MMR is always better.
What I don’t get is how can my MMR and CSR be so different. I’m platinum, but then the game is filling my ranked matches with Onyx’s, according to my MMR presumably. Then I struggle and lose a lot of my games, most times going just barely positive or marginally negative. But the system is not jumping me through the ranks to narrow the gap between this ‘hidden’ mmr and my visible rank. And as a player I just find it so demotivating. I’m being told I am a platinum; but the MMR is clearly then suggesting I should be higher based on the matchmaking it is giving me. The gap between the two just seems crazy. There is nothing more demotivating than being told you are worse than the game actually thinks you are. That’s my issue with it. I’d probably enjoy ranked more and be more happy about losing matches against onyx’s if the game was telling me that I was good enough to be in there with Onyx’s. But it isn’t. It’s telling me that I’m distinctly average. And I’m fine with that, but surely it’s one or the other. This big gap is just so demotivating
