I start my day at 1645 Onyx. I win 4 games. I end up at 1655. (2 games I only earned 1 CSR).
I lost one game and went all the way back down to 1639.
This is the most unrewarding, unsatisfying and unjust skill rating system I have ever experienced. Sure its performance based and maybe a couple games I had a neutral KD ratio, but does the game not think that maybe my KD is that way because I’m playing for the objective and trying so hard to win the game? Maybe I made a sick play during that game that clutched us the game?
I’m so exhausted from this and have been stuck around 1650 for over a month now and this is just getting old and stale real fast.
Looks like the team pairing killed you last game. The game gave you two diamonds and an unranked. Because you didn’t carry them up a mountain and placed below them on the scoreboards…the game tanked your rank. It is dumb though.
Pretty much, you never know what kind of teammates you will be paired with. If the game gives you a plat and diamond you better hope you sweat your socks off.
The ranking only seems moderately more fair when you are partied with people similar in rank.
Im at the same point as you are. Win 4 lose 2 and end up lower than where i started. Its a team game, when you win you should go up and when you lose you should go down. Playing for the win isn’t really what the rank system incentives and its really making the game boring to me.
For example, when im constantly throwing the oddball down all the way from pipes to pit on Recharge before they wipe us and we win the game because the other team never has a chance to set up, the rank system doesn’t see that. When I’m yelling at the guy on our team to come back as hes about to break our setup by flipping the spawns and that doesn’t happen because of my callout and awareness, the rank system doesn’t see that. A performance based rank system CANT see that and many other small details of this game that make the difference between a win or a loss. They need to scrap it
Ranked is dead after you hit a certain cap. Only solution to have SOME fun back would be to make new accounts to level up again.
It may be different if playing with a squad but hey… 343 killed the pre and post game lobby, fcked up the talking system (2 or 3 games in I usually have to go into partychat because you can’t mute players from the scoreboard and IF someone has a mic he mostly uses it to chew something loudly or his game sound is blasting through…) and SMM make it impossible to enjoy the game with friends below your skilllevel.
But I get it: in 6 years there was probably no time to ask themselves: how can players enjoy the game? how can we keep them motivated? Is there a way to improve the social experience? Oh look… cat ears!!!
And I understand. My CTF specialty is dropping in behind the flag carrier (running backwards) and slowing down any pursuers. It’s a suicide mission - but I know if I can hold them up, it could well be that few metres we need for the cap.
That’s really not how a skill ranking system should work.
XP rank though - that’s is a different story.
Yep, rank should slow down when you reach your cap.
That’s how skills work.
That’s a weird definition of fun.
I think you really need an XP rank to grind. Weighted to wins and medals…
But does make it more enjoyable for everyone else.
I’m a big fan of the XP rank. People can grind that to their heart’s content.
Move the MMR back into the background and let it do what it does best - match-making. Make the CSR divisions and tiers only (no number).
I literally catch myself hiding and running away from enemies just to preserve my k/d in ranked if I know my team is guaranteed to lose. I avoid the objective and just try to survive. The ranked system forces this play style and it really shouldn’t.
All those times I ran the flag and get gunned down right before the cap just so another teammate can score got me nothing. Had a negative k/d but was running the flag every time. Even got criticized by my team when in reality, I was the only one playing obj. This is why ranked slayer needs to be a thing. Playing objective doesn’t rank you up.
The main problem is that the system doesn’t just want you to be matched with equally skilled players it also wants to FORCE you to a 50-50 win\loss. These two things are not necessarily related.
That’s why at some point you are going to lose no matter what. You could be the most skilled player that ever existed and you would still lose because the system says so.
It’s so crazy to me that I’m diamond 6 with literally a win or 2 away from ranking to onyx, and im paired with someone who looks like they’re playing with their feet. I do great, but they have a .10 k/d and stays far from the objective. We lose, and my rank bar goes from almost full to almost empty. How is this even a thing?
You would think.
Ranked.
Matches.
Would only. Look at who won.
Look at literally any sport. Any sport.
Why change it for halo. Why even make it different.
we already talked about it in another thread. A skillsystem is GREAT as long as it is hidden or at least a second number you can see. Or even better: let the skillrank change over a longer period of time and TELL people what just happened to their skill.
Having me playing against mit diamonds and low onyx players is great, i have quite a lot balanced games. But having no rewards but big punishment ist plain and simple bad design.
