Since announced, people have wondered when in the timeline Halo Infinite. 343 quickly came out and announced that Infinite is a follow-up to Halo 5: Guardians. Frankie has gone on to say this,
> It will continue the story from Halo 5: Guardians but will be built in a way that makes it a good place to start your first halo adventure.
> It will take place after the events of Halo 5 but feel new to new players. Remember how Halo CE woke you up in the middle of a war you had apparently been fighting?
So, Halo Infinite will follow up Guardians but also feel new and able for new players to jump into the franchise. How do you think they’ll be able to make it accessible for new players. Do you think there will be a prologue cinematic that catches everyone up to speed on the HaloUniverse? Or do you think they will be dropping certain story threads and somewhat beginning anew?
I believe they will have a prologue as there was a lot going on in Halo 5 that needs to be explained. I think Osiris and Blue Team will be in a few missions at most, but I wouldn’t necessarily say their stories are getting dropped. Well, besides Buck. Bad Blood dealt with him.
I personally believe the whole story has gotten WAYYY too big since it is spanning multiple forms of media. I think they should soft reboot it. The stories are still canon, the storyline is still there, but do like Halo CE and dont really explain a lot until necessary. That way new players can get up to speed without having to do multiple essays worth of research.
I think they’re trying hard to make Infinite the new CE. It’s a good move to skip a couple of years into the future, when this war with the Created is more established.
That said, I don’t think it will work as well as they think. If Infinite will completely ignore everything set up in Halo 5 and instead just throw us on a Halo to retread familiar ground- no one will like that. What we need is a good story, not a diversion to the fact that 343i has written themselves into a corner. Besides, Halo Anniversary was just a couple of years ago.

I’m thinking the same thing. In CE you’re thrown into the middle of outrunning an enemy you know very little about (bad guys we’re running from) and a job you know very little about as well (protect Cortana, her knowledge is extremely valuable).
Infinite could do the same thing, substituting the Created (and their allies) for the Covenant and give us some mission that is critical to saving humanity. I’m stoked to be back on a Halo ring.
