Halo Infinite Only Has Masculine Body Options

I noticed in Halo Infinites Spartan creation there was no option for a Female body type. 343 has successfully excluded the entire female gender from the game. In Halo 5 there was the choice to chose between a feminine and masculine body type. The new Halo Infinite only provides masculine body types to chose from doing a great job of removing the feature of any gender choice. This decision has me speculating if 343 has chosen to save money in designing by making all their Spartans male or they just aren’t as interested about their fans who identify as female. I recently posted on Reddit if people are upset that 343 has taken away the female feature they had available in Halo 5 and the post received 4,500 karma meaning a larger number than 4,500 people agreed this is a lose of a feature. That is over 4,500 copies of halo games to be purchased and gamers who would like the option to chose their in game Spartan gender instead of being stuck with strictly male Spartans and masculine traits.

Post for Reference on Reddit is below and received 4,500 karma within 23 hours before moderators locked the comments and likes.

343 Please allow the choice of female Spartans like you did in Halo 5. The game felt great in the BTB beta which was an excellent improvement from first Beta.

This is blatantly untrue.

Body types in MCC have also been changed to be labelled “light” and “heavy” instead of male and female to be MORE inclusive of gender as opposed to less. Voice is now chosen separately. Which is why there are 3 options shown so far in Infinite. And while we haven’t seen the voice option yet it will definitely be there.

By trying to be more inclusive, they’ve been less inclusive by not including actual female body types. It really is 3 blokes. Heck 1 and 3 are pretty much the exact same. I’d rather have the original 2 gender types than this. At least I can tell which is female and which is male.
But yeah, the system chosen was to include people who have a male body but identify as female. What about the other way around or just feminine bodies in general?
At this point I’ll take less broad shoulders and thicker thighs.
I love the previous games versions. Put the Spartans next to eachother and you can tell the difference. In Infinite, o couldn’t tell the different with a magnifying glass. This is less different than the stormtroopers is Battlefront 2015.

I think there’s a better middle ground than what we have, but the female Spartans in Halo Reach/5 were honeslty ridiculous. Considering how tight and thick the Mjolnir undersuit is it doesn’t make a lot of sense for Spartans to look like Yanet Garcia, I think the proportions of someone like Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce make more sense, with essentially the strongest sports bar and compression shorts on.

I would argue that Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce is too small and unmuscular to be a super soldier (female spartan) body type. Shes 5 ft tall and 115lbs, which is probably why.

TBH the point of halo isn’t having “obviously female” body models for massive,1000lb or heavier super soldiers (in armor). Female spartans are basically 6 ft 5 or taller killing machines wearing a huge set of space-armor. They should definitely not look curvy, by any means whatsoever lol

A body like Kris Cyborg or Amanda Nunes would make more sense, except 6ft 5 or taller

Where’s my Peter Griffin “OMG who the hell cares?” gif?

I still think that would be better than what we have. And the problem with Spartan armour is it doesn’t change much with gender, so you kinda have to exaggerate a little so you can tell the difference. Of cours you can’t change height or breast size as that would change gameplay and armour respectively. So thinner shoulders, thicker thighs and a bit of a butt are perfectly fine in my eyes. And since they’re seperating the voice with the body, people who don’t want the feminine body can just have the male with a female voice. There, everyone is happy.

Hi there, as a transgender individual who really appreciates the changes put in, I can firmly say you’re outright wrong. There are absolutely notable differences in the waistlines. I chose the middle ground option, as somebody who definitely has an hourglass, but at 6’3 and broad shouldered, it was the option that felt right.

It’s disappointing to me how unready the Halo community at large seems to be to have any discussion about gender or body shapes. This might surprise you, but even cis men and women do not fit into prebaked molds 100% of the time.

I sincerely appreciate 343i doing away with the binary and giving us multiple body shapes and several voice options to choose from.

Women have not been removed from Halo. It’s just up to you if your Spartan is a woman or not.

By the way, it should be noted that there was a sect of the Halo fanbase that found the over-donked Spartans since Reach to be a bit much, and preferred that their Spartans look more androgynous or more masculine in body shape. While Reach’s feminine body types were definitely exaggerated and while I don’t really care for this group to get a W of any kind, this was one way to appease both of us that if you ask me, has worked.

It seems the only group unhappy with it all, are aligned with Gender-Criticals.

That’s blatantly false. About the only way you could tell in BF2015 was the voice. You certainly couldn’t tell at a glance. But the question remains: Why do you want to be able to tell at a glance? Why does it honestly matter so much? When the difference is as small as that, the concern is far more about personal comfort and expression which, is fine by me.

If you can’t tell the difference at a decent glance, then you may as well go back to Halo 3 and just have a voice change. And the Star Wars comparison was a joke to show how both that and these options are far too similar. I’m happy you like the choices available, but don’t you think people with a more feminine figure like the Reach - 5 model want a more feminine figure too? Not saying to remove these ones but it feels like they’ve just straight up replaced the old ones rather than just adding. Personally I’d love 3 different types for each gender. Maybe a muscle, medium and small option? Can’t say fat as Spartans wouldn’t be XD

Halo is not like an MMORPG where the equivalent armor on a female body is basically lingerie.

The armor is bulky and will dwarf any differences in skeletal structure.

Want to say that to Reach - 5? The armour may not be too different, maybe slightly smaller as they’d be a smaller person to a male Spartan, but either way that under suit is skin tight so you’d definitely be able to see certain shapes like thighs, butt and waist. No one is saying to put them in bikinis. Then again, I bet John would rock a Speedo XD

I actually do lol. The female bodies in 5 rivaled Instagram models using photoshop and/or surgery…it was ridiculous. Armor should be functional, not accentuate curves. That’s why Infinite’s system seems logical to me.

The ‘realism’ argument doesn’t make sense since this game is already confirmed t have snowman helmets and other nonsense.

For armour to be functional, it needs to fit the body right, and as I said before, the undersuit is skin tight so you’ll see everything that’s not covered. Even if you made say Knights armour for a woman, it’d still have the curves as it need to fit her body right, or if you gave a modern military women a chest plate, you’d still see the curves on the sides and it’d be smaller than a blokes. If it doesn’t fit right, it’ll slide, jiggle or could even be dangerous. So since you’d be making it fit a curvy figure, the armour will be curvy, or at least curvier than a males. 5 I think looked the way it did because of the armour showed so much of the undersuit. I still think Reach did it best though. And even if the armour parts don’t change, maybe make the undersuit show a bit more difference so you can tell, exaggerate a little like people do with animation to get the point across. Currently if I got all three current options in a row and asked people which are male, which are female and they could all be male or female, I bet 90% of the time they’ll say all three are male. It’s fine to keep these, just give us more and better.

Spartans are obviously very muscular, but they’re also lean, and I would assume the same would apply to female Spartans. Male Spartans don’t have the muscle mass of Dwayne Johnson, they look more like the proportions of Hugh Jackman, if not even a little slimmer relative to their height. I was assuming you’d scale up the height appropriately regardless, it’s impossible to find someone the correct height and build in real life. Maybe Shelly-Anne Fraser-Price isn’t a perfect example, but I also don’t see them looking as ‘bulky’ as Kris Cyborg, the augmentations don’t just tack on extra muscle, it makes the existing muscular skeletal network stronger and work more effectively. That isn’t to say they aren’t built, but I don’t think they’re particularly ‘large’ either. Either way, we both seem to be in agreement that they don’t need to look like Instagram models like they did in Halo Reach/5.

We’re wearing power armor, I enjoyed having a fat DONK in 5 for sure but don’t act like that wasn’t kinda’ goofy. Not exactly digging the implication I lack a feminine figure though, I’ve worked hard for that. :stuck_out_tongue:

What I don’t get is why people are so obsessed with seeing “blatant/obvious” features like… Y’all we’re playing superhuman soldiers in powered armor designed to protect us. I think we can skimp out on seeing booty.

You know what actually, lemme’ use an example. I’m a welder, yeah? Well, what we wear in the shop are these thick leather coats to protect us from burns, slag, radiation and other hazards or dangers. Not to mention our UV filtering masks, respirators, caps and safety goggles, on top of thick, treated leather gloves, steel toe leather boots and - this is funny but it’s acceptable, non polyester jeans.

We have to wear… a lot of layers and a lot of stuff. Now under that protective gear we all have very diverse bodytypes. My wife has an incredible set of hips but you can’t see that under her coat. I’ve got a huge rack, but even with my coat properly fitted and all, you really can’t make that out. About all anyone can see is my hair bun and eyes when my mask is up.

…So, what do we expect from a pressurized suit with energy shields, an undersuit and plating that can help withstand orbital re-entry, a visor that barely ever gets damaged, and so on? Is it not absolutely mind bogglingly incredible that the armor is as form fitting as it is already?

Whatever the case may be if you want realism and such, take it from the welder: We wear layers.

There’s no way this is all the customization we’re getting. But if it does turn out like this, then apparently “inclusion” would mean excluding the option to look like anything close to females from Reach/5. And those Spartans are exaggerated? Lol, I guess it’s thought that there aren’t any female athletes currently around that would look like them. Even if there wasn’t, there’s still people that’ll play the game and want to look like those Spartans.

“The augmentation process makes them look less feminine.” Is there lore that actually states this?

Never stated anything about what you look like, as I have no clue, and I’m sorry you took it that way.
The undersuit for Spartans is one layer and once again, skin tight, not baggy like a welder’s.
And is it mind boggling to you that people want to and do look feminine? You’ve finally got your option but why take away the other? I have a feeling you’d be happier going back to Halo 3 with one body type and a voice changer.

Well in retrospect, the armors are technically unisex, which means they’re not meant for any specific gender. It was really because of Reach, that the female body shapes became more obvious in the games, and as such there was the whole male - female selection. Canonically, the undersuits are in no way slimfit, and meant to represent every nook and cranny, curve and shape on the body, because it is just meant to be a set of armor around a human being. No gender specification, JUST a soldier. If anything, the one body type, that is the most slim, is what you’d probaly expect to be the female body in Infinite.

I know we’re in a day and age, where everyone wants to feel represented but… Games have to stick with the lore accurate stuff sometimes.
