As it said in the trailer, Halo: Infinite will be on the “Slipspace” engine. Previously, Halo used the “Blam!” engine. Now correct me if I’m wrong (I really don’t know all that much about how game engines work) but that means that the gameplay now has to be built from the ground up, which is very promising. I also think the reason why the trailer gave us an almost open world feel, is because as they said in the blog post, they were showing off the engine. They were just showing us the amazing things they could do with the engine and where it could take us, so maybe it isn’t open world after all…
I’ll just wish no Battle Royale stuff comes to this. Fortunately, people like LateNightGaming say that won’t happen. Thank God.

Agreed. I think 343i knows what we want, and nobody has asked for a battle royale, so they don’t have an excuse to make it happen.
It seems likely that the Slipspace engine is a total overhaul rather than a new engine altogether. Like what Unreal Engine 4 is to Unreal Engine 3. But in the end we have totally no way of knowing, other than the fact it is capable of making really good looking (Presumably) pre-rendered animations.
Ultimately, the trailer is just an engine showcase being used to show off the new engine and hint at future games. We cannot know more unless somebody important specifies.
