I do not get why almost every single other Halo game has had sword block and Infinite doesn’t.
Are you referring to sword clash? Sword block was only present in Reach and it was a garbage addition.
No, I mean sword block
Yeah sword block was only in Reach and while I didn’t like it there i think it could maybe work in Infinite since we don’t have a shotgun that can one shot sword users.
But that also said nothing would be more annoying than someone ruining your sword spree with a melee. So i would lean towards not having it just for that. Also the sword is meant to dominate in close range so taking that away just kills the point of even having a close range power weapon.
I hated sword block cause people would instinctively just hit the melee button and block it even when they weren’t trying to like going around a corner and seeing an enemy up close.
In that case I say no. The sword is a power weapon and should be treated as such, adding sword block significantly decreases its utility. If there is a sword on the map, and you know for certain no one on your team has it, then every close quarters encounter should be handled with extreme caution. Running blindly into rooms with the sword should punish careless players. On the flip side unique to Infinite if the grapple shot is also in play all players in doors should be cautious of doorways on elevated floors as it’s a prime target for someone to come swinging through.
Hard no to Sword Block.
Hard yes to Sword Clash.
Sword block was horrible, please no
Doesn’t need it, and was awful in Reach, still got sword clash and repulser so works well for me anyway
No. No it doesn’t.
I’m would like the quick, non-lunge, attack back though.
Bruh the energy sword already cancels out any melee damage received while swinging it, it can also be paired with the grapple hook for a guaranteed easy kill. Infinite’s iteration of the Energy Sword is the most dangerous one yet lol
I want sword scope back.
Doesn’t pressing the melee button instead of the fire weapon button make a quicker slash?
Not in infinite it dpesnt
Are you referring to sword block as in you block a lunge with sword melee, they get stunned, and then you immediately lunge while they are stunned? That has been in Halo 3, Reach, I believe 4, and definitely 5, because sword tournaments were always able to continue clashing without either player dying, until one of you stun blocked or juked and got the stab. No idea why this isn’t in the game. If you’re talking about unarmed blocking, where you punch the enemy’s sword while they are lunging, with perfect timing, to stun them, that was only in Reach, but I think it was a pretty cool niche technique.
Blocking lunge with sword/hammer melee should be in the game. It’s what made sword fights and Infection super fun. It was combat rock paper scissors. You didn’t know if they would lunge, melee, dodge, or shoot. They lunge, you melee, they get stunned, you either lunge or shoot them while their shields are down. No idea why this isn’t in the game other than because 343 is 343.
Is it the Mandela effect or do I remember being able to block the sword in 2 and 3 with the brute shot melee too?
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong… but I keep losing my sword fights.
The first two clashes are they typical stand off… but the third one is usually me dying and not my opponent.
Is it a timing thing? Is there an aiming / headshot component? Or am I the victim of lag plus or minus the Gods of RNG.
But anyway… if it’s random, I think a better mechanic would be to have the swords overheat… so that on the third clash they both explode… killing both combatants (fair) and anyone else in the vicinity who was coming in for a cheap kill (even fairer).

Sword Block is not fun tbh.
What Infinite needs is Sword lunge range reduced. It has no business dashing as far as the spitting range of the Bulldog. Especially since the Bulldog can’t even 1 shot a fully shielded Spartan.
Tbh, i think it was h2…i miss the features that game had. You could side step a sword lunge, and duck under a standard melee. Made for some clutch 1v1s…not to mention a true bxr felt amazing to pull off…but…that was before the easy access of controllers with extra buttons. I think you were able to throw out your secondary (dual weilded) weapon and it would block an incoming charged shot from the plasma pistol. Ive been wanting to actually test if the drop weapon feature did the same thing in infinite but never got around to trying it.
I don’t want to give all the secrets, but the repulsor does a decent job ![]()
