The trailer for Infinite was, well a mixed bag for me, and I’d hope that 343 decide to take more time to finish polishing their game. I know its been in development for quite awhile, but with COVID-19 now effecting the world I don’t think anyone would blame them for taking more time to finish the game (summer 2021?).
Things I liked:
- They are introducing new weapons instead of changing preexisting ones (which I hope will be in the game as well)
- Chiefs armor looks great
- Elite armor looks great
- driving mechanics/physics look to be really solid
- Love the soundtrack on the little elevator ride
- Open World is intriguing
- introducing new movement mechanics is always great (just no grapples in MP please)
Things I dislike:
- Phantoms flying does not look smooth
- Textures seem flat and too clean, probably to accommodate 4k 60 fps
- Guns need a deeper sound to communicate “power” to the player better
- Lighting needs to look more dynamic, probably looks this way due to 4k res
- Movement just seems a bit too “Doomy” and could feel a bit lighter, not really sure if this is just me though.
I’d say just drop the resolution to sub-4k, resolution only helps insofar as you are able to put detail in those pixels, so 1440 or even 1080 would be better than a not-great 4k experience.
Just my hot-take, its not at all that I hate it, but rather that I’m seeing missing potential that I hope 343 takes more time to polish up (just like Cyberpunk).
Seems to be pretty spot on with the pros and cons. One thing that I would like to add is that the vehicle camera needs to be closer. The warthog was too distant from the screen. That said, most of the problems seem to stem from a lack of dev time/polishing, which is odd consodering the five-year development.

I don’t hate what I’ve seen in the demo either. I’ve watched it a few more times, in both normal 1.0 speed and 0.25 speed to closely look at the graphics. I’m really disappointed with the cartoonish style, just reminds me a lot like Mega Blocks or Legos or something. I’m a car guy and the Warthog as a military vehicle needs to sound more gruff/tougher, you know, like it means business. To me it comes across as some Honda Civic with a bad aftermarket exhaust. The weapon designs and sounds seem generic, like a knock-off from Titanfall or CoD.
I agree pros and cons are pretty much spot on and i respect your constructive criticism. All of those cons are actually really easy to fix and can probably be done in less than a months time. Player movement feeling kind of “doomy” is actually kind of what Halo CE and legacy Halo 2 was like. This is slightly more “doomy” than the legacy Halo CE and 2 were like but not too far off. Player movement like that is going to be kind of hard to do a fix on since it is basically the game.
Sorry I originally quoted the wrong person(whoops!) : “I don’t hate what I’ve seen in the demo either. Well here is what they used as source material for sound design: Making Halo Infinite | Audio Field Recordings – Vehicles - YouTube
Weird how it translate in-game though.
There’s an interview with Chris Lee saying that ray tracing will be patched in. As wel he says that they plan to build off this game for ten years. So I think they’ll launch it as is then improve upon later.
The only issue I have is that the game says it will be “60fps with up to 4k resolution”. So it sounds like dynamic resolution is a thing, I was hoping the Series X would have locked 4k60.

It does run on hydrogen and not gasoline from what I remember, so that might be a little bit of a reason.
But personally, the original warthog sounds were my favorite. The cry of that old hog was perfect.

Funny you mention megablocks since that is where we got most of our information prior to this gameplay reveal
I think the closer we get to release, the more polished the visuals we’ll get ESPECIALLY with the lighting and shadows. The textures of the metal, walls and surfaces seemed flat, suffering from some texture and cloud pop in and some of surfaces had the same plastic feel as H5 multiplayer. Shadows and lack thereof hurt this showing a little, I think as they get closer and they continue fine-tuning the lighting and add-in Ray-Tracing and HDR will see a better-looking game.
The new open-world ring looks expansive and full of possibilties! Loving the interactive map and upgrade menus interface the player HUD looks nice as well (I could definitely like to see the Hexagonal Recharge visual elements dialed back with more transparency as they are currently distracting) Overall the Grapple, driving, new weapons and equipment were great. Cutscenes looked fantastic, the player and enemy models looked amazing. Seeing the Brutes tossing the Grunts at Chief was hilarious. Overall great direction im excites for the Multiplayer & Forge reveal and for the cleaned up final version as we are still a little over 3 months away plenty of time for 343i to tidy it up and put the finishing polish on this bad boy

Oh man…I really hope you’re right. For a next-gen title, the gameplay graphics in the demo were very underwhelming. Blocky, cartoonish, little to no blood, just bland.

The warthog sounds okay and realistic to me (anything is better than 4s warthog). If you pay attention you can very clearly hear that they used the sound obtained via the real world “dune buggy”.
Watch the Making of: Audio video for infinite that was released a like 2 months ago. It is cool to see those documentaries, then actually see it come to life within the game world.

It scares me when they say they’ll launch it and improve upon it later as that is the exact same philosophy fallout 76 and many other live market games have such as destiny. it enables an incomplete product to be shipped with the hopes that people will stick around long enough to have the game they payed for finally be realized. Whether that be through free or payed DLC I don’t like the implication.

ADDITIONALLY Here’s another thing to piggyback on the “Ray-tracing patched in” comment I think it’s likely to get patched at Launch.
>> The word is that this Demo you saw today was from an earlier but more stable version of the game. If you know anything about software releases, is that if the latest & prettiest version of the game had some bugs to work out, then they are not going to build a Demo off that later more unstable version and show that. Studios would be more likely to show the earlier (less pretty) version because it’s more stable. So what you saw onscreen today was not really indicitive of the current visual state of the game.
