Halo has built its reputation on its Campaign and Multiplayer options, granted we seen Firefight with introduction of ODST become a great game mode and staple of the series. Now as such Battle Royale is not a guarantee to help Halo and can hurt the brand even more.
We’ve seen Companies go all in/step into the Battle Royale genre. But remember it doesn’t guarantee to make the game more popular/generate buzz/player numbers. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout Mode started to fall on its player numbers after its launch due to not able to access it without paying for the game, limiting its potential to bring in new players. DICE thought a Battle Royale Mode would help make Battlefield V a more popular game but it was pretty DOA after the team running it had to help with fix the game and the player numbers dropped due to issues, hackers, etc making the Mode pretty much Dead.
So let me ask you this, how can you make a unique Battle Royale game, every BR pretty much now a days copy each other’s gameplay mechanics. When Apex Legends came out its Revive Mechanics with Team Mates got adopted with every major BR. So what will Halo do? What will make Halo BR Unique? How much time, money, and effort are they planning to keep putting into it if the Player Numbers don’t exceed their expectation/make enough money/buzz to warrant continued support. The main reasons why Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Modern Warfare’s Warzone is so popular is because F2P and available on multiple platforms. PUBG released at a good time with the price tag since BR was HUGE back then. If they make Halo BR a F2P title, then yeh you have potential to have a vast player base on Xbox/PC. But again what will make it unique to Halo, will enough people play it? Halo isn’t known for being a BR. Halo has fallen from its top spot being a Major Community for Xbox, its not a system seller anymore nor the biggest scene in eSports, etc.
I believe Halo should work on its modes and mechanics to keep being Halo and to potentially bring it back to its former glory. So no, no BR, just work on the game including its Campaign, Multiplayer, Forge, etc.

I was thinking about this the other day as well. I like the idea of HALO having a Battle Royale mode, but would it work with normal HALO combat? I think it would be interesting to play but would probably need to be heavily tweaked over the first few months and played more as an experiment rather than a fully polished release. Would really enjoy seeing it as part of HALO Infinite though.

> Halo Infinite needs Battle Royal mode to stay relevant & retain multiplayer player count. BR is not a fade, it will be one of expected mode to successful FPS going forward, even Call of Duty & Battlefield are implementing their own version of BR. Fortnite, as worldwide sensation is becoming one of first FPS they played for lot of audience, not to mention PUBG. That audience will eventually look for other similar games, CoD & BF is doing just that. If Halo does not have BR, they loss the opportunity to bring part of that huge & growing audience, which will be hard to ignore. Halo has a great opportunity to bring futuristic BR mode which no AAA game currently offers.
> One of main problems I see in Halo today is that it is held back by huge baggage of nostalgia, those modes that no longer is relevant & trying to appeal to older generation that no longer plays the game. Grief ball & addition of jet pack is prime example of this. Grief ball which community demanded to be added, which no one plays anyway & jetpack & dash that players hated, which turned out to be great addition to the game. If the game tries to appeal to the old & ignore the upcoming players, it will ultimately fail to capture enough audience to stay relevant.

> Update: 7/2/2020It has been 2 years since the question was asked if BR is required for Halo to stay relevant.
> - Activision Blizzard released Call of Duty Warzone, EA released Battlefield 5 Battle Royal, Apex legend is doing great - Ubisoft released Hyper Scape Tech test today - Fortnite is still the king the BR - PUBG still maintains top 3 most played game on Steam chart - CoD Warzone & Fortnite remains the most played game on XboxDid your opinion changed after 2 years of seeing where the industry is today? Do you think still Halo needs/doesn’t needs BR to stay relevant? For me, I still think they do after seeing the popularity & interest in BR even today and that it will continue for years to come.

> Thats what people said when 343 added advanced mobility “halo needs to stay relevant by following trends” And now look where halo is now. Halo created its own trends.
> Although a battle royal mode would be cool, halo infinite doesnt need it to be relevant tho. maybe they could add tools in forge for fans to make their own or later when the game comes out make it as a massive update or something

> I don’t want BR. Halo should come up with its own big mode. We already have Warzone, hopefully that can evolve into something bigger and better. I mean who wouldn’t want a mode with 100 players in one match? BR isn’t it though, chief. Atleast for Halo.
I agree but just change up warzone

That’s a fair assessment to make.
Would it be better to have the option to make a BR gametype through custom games and forge, make it know that players can do that themselves instead of have it has a day 1 multiplayer option?
Halo use to set trends not follow them. For halo to be healthy it needs to focus on it’s own identity rather than chase what ever is popular at the time.

its still better to have a septrate game there gone release that is only about BR and notting else the same thing there have done with COD Warzone make it only a BR game from it.
and if people only wane play BR then there can do it in a seperate game.

to set trends you most release each year a new halo game but since halo reach its doing not each year a new release it took halo 4 to release 2 years later and for halo 5 it took 3 years for release off halo 5 after halo 4 and now with halo 6 infinite its been 5 years after the release off the last halo game and that was halo 5.
that means that you cant sent trends any more if it take that long to release a new game the only thing there can do now is follow trends to keep the game with its time.
and maybe its time that microsoft is looking for a second company that also wane developing halo game’s and do it in a rotation way that first 343 is releasing a halo game and year later the second company and year later 343 again?

How exactly is saying “no” spam?
On topic, A BR mode does not make Halo stand out, it makes it just another game with BR.

I dunno man, the mods don’t like me.
Rubbish. People flooding to H3 multiplayer proves it. The game won’t live or die by a battle royale playlist.
Look at you chasing the internet clout, you are probably a nerdy little child that has nowt for him, no gf, no friends noting so yoi come on here say halo will be dead without br are you for real? Halo doesnt need br to sucssed its twerps like you to stop dogging and review bombing a game because it doesnt have a br, look you nerdy little child we are here and we are staying even without br thats why theres forge so people like you can do it yourself, we can tell your not a halo player and you only played it because it was free
Halo Infinite needs to be playable to stay relevant. Not a Battle Royal.
