Halo Infinite needs a proper clan system

So I’m aware that they’re the “Spartan Company” feature in Halo, but really I never took it that seriously. I just scrolled through the Spartan Companies and really it just seems to me like stat flexing and people just wanting a tag by their names. Also, it seems that every company is just doing it for the Achilles helmet. lol But if Spartan companies aren’t pitched against each other in any official and recorded matches, then what’s the point?

If you’re old as hell like me, you remember the days of Rainbow Six Black Arrow and the outstanding clan system it had. Instead of just being a part of some online page with your name displayed, you were actually able to contribute to your clan in a meaningful way by actually winning matches for your clan. Clan matches were taken pretty seriously and each player was predetermined and scheduled to play in each clan match. Example:

Hot Chili Fries, John Doe, Jim Jones, and Jane Smith are in the Happy Kids Clan and are scheduled to play against four members of the Angry Apples clan on March 21st, 12pm eastern time. If the Happy Kids Clan wins the match, then their clan gets a higher rank and will therefore be able to play against higher ranked clans, and so on.

This system definitely brought a sense of competition to the game and made things very interesting. The clans who consistently won matches were often respected and feared because of the fact, and when you saw a famous clan tag next to a person’s name, you know that he or she actually earned that right to wear it because if you were a bad player in a good clan, you would eventually get kicked out of it.

Maybe Infinite couldn’t have something this strict or serious weaved into it, but a system that pitched certain groups of players against others in a more official and serious way would be great. I would like to relive the days when I saw an enemy team with all matching emblems and actually consider that they were good players and not just dudes who wanted to look cool.

That sounds really cool. I like spartan companies as that’s how I found a cool group of people to play with but I like the competitive side of your idea, could see people really getting into that. Also have the clan/company stats and other related things viewable in game, it should have its own section.

EDIT: Also #ScrewAngryApples

I’m just going to repeat what I said in a different thread:

> Anything that encourages coordinated teams to match and play with other coordinated teams, rather than stomping on random solo players, is a good idea to me. Let’s remember that it does the opposite of “strengthen the community” when players are encouraged to party up and spawn camp uncoordinated solo players who aren’t as interested in being sweaty. That’s the kind of thing that can actually make people discouraged from playing Halo and move on to other games. 343 should be mindful of that whenever they think about implementing anything that encourages “clans”. I support your idea if it encourages them to play with each other, though.

I agree, but that’s why party matching should be a thing. There’s nothing worse than playing against a team of four people when you’re going in solo. Even if it’s a team of four against a team of three and one random it can still make for an unbalanced game.

Of course the “clans” or whatever they might be called could have their own playlist, maybe along the lines of H2 or H3 hardcore, therefore it would just discourage any casual player from entering in the first place.

The way it worked in rainbow six it was a preset server dedicated for those two clans to fight on a certain date. Like it literally went down to the second, and if one or two of your teammates didn’t show up, then that sucks for you cuz you still gotta play the match, and possibly boot the members who didn’t show.

Maybe infinite couldn’t be this strict with clans, but something competitive would surely be nice

Man, having them in Halo 2 was amazing. I don’t remember quite how the specifics worked but if they could get something like that going I think it would be a beneficial addition to the community in-game.

I wouldn’t say Spartan Companies are a total bust. Based on what you posted, the only thing, while a major feature, is company (clan) vs. company (clan) stats and gametypes. Warzone Warlords was implemented for that exact reason, but it’s not the most popular and there’s no dedicated section on company pages for results of such matches.

As for companies in their current state, you contribute to the overall company stats and commendations with every match you play. The distribution of highest ranks are shown too. There are plenty of hardcore companies that expect you to play at a certain level or you get kicked. Many companies only play with their own. Again, nothing to prove one company’s dominance over another, but there are plenty of stats and such available to prove a company’s worth. Acquiring Achilles is quite a feat and accomplishment for any company and player and it sounds like you’re dismissing it as not noteworthy, but I could be misinterpreting that so I take it back if that’s the case. That in itself is worth plenty of rep for a company.

I should clarify that I don’t think the system is perfect and I do hope to see a much deeper implementation of companies in the future. Company vs. company would be a terrific thing and seeing a platform for it would make many happy. But as a first step, the implementation seen for Halo 5 was very well done.
