Halo Infinite - My Thoughts - Optimisitic

The community really disappoints. I’m convinced this would have been the response no matter what was shown. Just trolls and haters everywhere. Its so depressing you cant even enjoy a new game reveal with out every nit picker coming out of the woodwork to trash on 343 and Halo that they claim to be fans of.

My impressions of the game were that it looked absolutely stunning. Chief has never looked better. The issue I have with people is that they seem to have expected this to be a next gen game. Why? Halo 5 came out in 2015. Infinite was always developed with Xbox One FIRST. Yall really think they had a Series X dev kit the entire development? -Yoink- of here with that. People really nit picking over some texture pop in far away. I didn’t even notice it until someone in a video zoomed in on it to show it. People do realize that this game will have to work on PCs that still use HDDs not everyone that plays Infinite will have a SSD. The clouds were a little more noticeable but again I really don’t care. Sure the weapons could have a little more texture and detail ( this is an old build apparently and a trailer that came out afterword showed much better looking guns) but honestly the nit picking again I thought the guns looked pretty sweet. I can’t wait to check out all these new guns they showed off and I hope a lot of old favorites are returning as well. People saying the world looked like Minecraft? I mean excuse me? Why because of the Halo ring constructed mountains? Yall realize Halo Rings are artificial right… the finished mountains blend into the blocky unfinished sections is obviously apparent in a ring that is being constructed… other areas of the ring I’m sure are much more “finished” looking. I can’t believe that has to be explained to people.

The guns had POWER. Loved how meaty and heavy the movement, shooting and impact of melee and shots looked and “felt”. Sprint, clamber, and slide have never bothered me so that’s whatever. Looks good. The open world is the only part I am really concerned about. Many open worlds just exist for a publisher to proudly market how large their world is. Ultimately its about what you are doing in that world. Rage 2 had a pointless open world that only seemed to exist for the player to travel between objectives. I’m hoping the open world is done somewhat like ODST where you can freely traverse it maybe do side stories but the main missions still being contained in a traditional “level”. I don’t think that is what we will be getting but thats just my thoughts on the possible level design.

My only other concern is really story and how they weave the misteps of Halo 5s story into this game. Honestly people need to stop being so hung up on graphics. TLOU2 had amazing graphics and still was a subpar game. Quantum Break, Ryse, Days Gone, Order 1886 all graphically incredible looking games, not very good overall in other areas. Gameplay over graphics ALWAYS. That being said the graphics in Infinite look INCREDIBLE. People keep conflating graphics and art style and its so frustrating. Just because its not hyper realstic dark gritty art style doesn’t mean it looks bad or worse than previous games.

I think if we had not been dealing with Covid this year 343 would have been able to show off a more current build of the game but even what was showed looked really promising. Classic gameplay, classic art style, expansive stunning world. I am 10000% on board. I can’t wait to see more from Infinite and I just want to thank the team at 343 for their hard work during this crazy year full of additional challenges on top of what would have already been a stressful year of development pandemic or no pandemic.
