Halo infinite music!!!

Ok we need talk about halo infinite music. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love halo 5 music and even halo 4(even though I do think it is the weakest in the series) but with that being said I really feel halo infinite needs a good soundtrack to end the series and I thought a combination of all main and memorable themes from all halo games. Things like one final effort from halo 3, behold a pale horse from halo CE 2 and 3, 117 from halo 4, the main theme from halo CE, the trials from halo 5, the light is green from halo 5, peril/perilous journey from halo 2 and halo CE, and unforgotten from halo 2.(I would add halo reach and odst music in but I can’t remember the names of the soundtracks in those games.) If 343 can do a good story and combine it with the best soundtracks from every game, as listed above, then they can end the series beautifully. Halo is known not only for it’s great story telling and it’s addictive multiplayer, but also for the soundtrack. Ask anyone you know which game series has the best music and they will say halo. The greatest thing about the campaign was kicking some covenant -Yoink- while listening to some dope -Yoink- music. Marty o’ Donnell is god himself with what he did with the music and Kazuma Jinnouchi did fantastic as well and I would love to hear some of the best music in infinite.

I’m all for using the famous themes again with or without variation, but it would be a mistake to limit the soundtrack to recycled music. I hope they create new music that is remembered just as well as the older classics.

Speaking of theme and variations, how has nobody done this with the Halo theme? Take Elgar’s Enigma Variations and the Brahms Haydn Variations as examples…this is prime real estate for composers (besides copyright issues).

While I’m all for hearing Behold a Pale Horse again, good original music is what the game needs. We don’t want TOO much older stuff, because then things will feel too familiar, too much like past games. I’d love to hear some stuff inspired by the older games, but I also want to hear what the composers can do to make Infinite feel like its own story.

Maybe a combination of both would be good. One of my favorites 117 from halo 4 was completely original so maybe you’re right and new soundtracks would be good. I would still like to hear some of those classic, memorable themes even if it’s just for a quick section or two.

The music leads and composers for 343 have done some fantastic stuff and do have the benefit of the doubt considering they’ve already done some amazing things in halo5 and 4 and I would absolutely be ok with doing original music in infinite maybe even a 50 50 or 60 40 combo of original and new. However for me and probably a lot of people on this forum halo is very nostalgic and very special to me and hearing a lot of those recognizable themes in infinite like pale horse and final effort would be amazing even if it is only once in the entire campaign.

I’m more than down for some returning tracks like we’ve already heard with the trailers but I really want new music too. I’m excited to see what Curtis does with Halo, I think he’s a good fit and I think it’s very classy and a good sign that both trailers we’ve gotten so far have had altered old soundtracks.

Side note: why do you keep saying to end the series? I don’t know where you’re getting that from but Infinite is definitely not going to be the last Halo.

I hope Marty is a liar, and has made the Infinite ost in a secret collaboration between 343 and Highwire games (his game company). I’d rather he be a liar than “not involved”. Lol

The halo music is my favorite in any video game series… ever… So I hope its really good. I definitely miss Marty’s touch on the music side of things.

Kazuma Jinnouchi isn’t working on Infinite. It’s a new guy named Curtis Schweitzer. Listen to the Starbound soundtrack if you want a little taste of his musical style. I think he’s a perfect fit for the new direction the studio is taking the series, and Chris Lee even said they’d be bringing back old themes, hopefully it strikes a good balance between classic and original material. Halo 3’s OST felt like a greatest hits compilation of music from the series and it’s my least favourite of the trilogy because of it.

As I said before this I do think a combo of new and old would be ideal I was just pointing out some of the themes I would like to hear and also how much of an impact soundtracks have on a game especially one such as halo. And also I wouldn’t see 343 doing a 7 game in the series. Bungie did 1, 2, 3 and I would think they would just want to stick to that and do 4, 5, 6. A couple of possibilites however I could see happening is that 343 disregards Halo 5 completely making it non canon and null from the story and doing 6 and 7. Or another possibility I see is that they do 7 games and treat halo 6 as sort of the second game of the 343i era. Added bonus is that the number 7 is common and important in the halo series as there was 7 rings and 117 so…

As much as I would love Marty I do think that the ost for Halo 4 and Halo 5 was done exceptionally well and that 343 has earned my respect at least in the music department. Marty would be great but I like to say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and Halo 4 and 5’s music wasn’t broke. (And before you flame me I know this was a joke)

I’m aware that Curtis is doing the soundtrack I was mainly saying that 343 has proven themselves to have the ability to choose good music leads as proven in Kazuma and Neil davidge. I have not listened to any of Curtis’ music and I probably won’t so I can have a fresh taste of it in Infinite. As for halo 3’s ost I thought it was done very well. If you watch an interview on The ActMan’s youtube channel where he had an interview with Marty himself(be warned it’s pretty long around an hour) Marty said that for Halo 2 and 3 he did a lot of what you call contrafactum I believe it might be called something else, but pretty much what it is is that you take a soundtrack or theme and you take it and change it just a bit. One example of that is behold a pale horse in halo CE and then Leonidas in halo 2. Now what Marty did is he did a lot of what was done with pale horse and Leonidas in halo CE and 2. I agree there is a lot of reused themes and I don’t mind that. You might, but I do not. However I do have to say that things like one final effort and finish the fight are some of the most popular themes in all of halo and those were original halo 3 themes. There wasn’t a lot of original stuff in halo 3 but there was some.

When 343i took the reins the original plan was to do a trilogy like you said called the “reclaimed trilogy”, so 4/5/6. But then years ago they said they were scrapping that idea and making it more of a saga and they also wanted to get rid of numbered entries which is why we’re getting “Halo Infinite” instead of “Halo 6”. There’s speculation that Halo Infinite might wrap up the Created ark and maybe even Chief’s story but I wouldn’t expect the franchise to end any time soon.

I wouldn’t expect the franchise to end either just the last traditional halo game. They might do a 7 or even better they might do another 7,8,9 either in 343 or pass it on to another company as bungie did

Oh I misunderstood then. I thought by “end the series” you meant end Halo.
