Halo Infinite Multiplayer Space Battles

How cool would it be to have a multiplayer space battle mode?
So imagine if you have 3 classes of aircraft: fighter, gunship, and bomber.
And you have 4 factions: UNSC, Banished (if they are included), Covenant, and Promethean’s (or whatever the heck they’re gonna be called).
And you have 10 maps: #1 Reach in space(UNSC versus Covenant), #2 Reach in space after glassing(UNSC versus Covenant), #3 Installation 04 in space(UNSC versus Covenant), #4 Installation 04 in space after destruction(UNSC versus Covenant), #5 Earth in space over New Mombasa(UNSC versus Covenant), #6 The Ark in space(UNSC versus (Banished/Covenant), #7 Forward Unto Dawn adrift in space(UNSC versus Promethean’s/whatever they are named), #8 Sanghelios on surface(Covenant versus P/W), #9 Zeta Halo in space(random for all), #10 Zeta Halo on surface(random for all).

UNSC Roster: Fighter class: Long-sword for #3/4/5, Sabre for #1/2/6, Broad-sword for #7, Something new for #9/10. Gunship class: D77 for #3/4/5, Falcon for #1/2/6, G79 for #7, New Pelican for #9/10. Bomber class: Short-sword for #1/2/3, Hornet for #4/5/6, Condor for #7/9/10.
Banished Roster: FC: Armored Banshee. GC: Armored Phantom. BC: Armored Blister-back.

You guys make up the rest.

It would be cool if they developed that but who knows the title infinite might mean just that.

To be honest I don’t really like dog fighters. I’d rather something like this not take time and resources away from the main part of the game. If they did do this kind of thing I’d hope it’d be a separate game.

Space battles would be cool! Halo has certainly experimented with the idea for awhile but a full blown mode/experience would be neat.
I wish I had more ideas to expand upon yours currently but maybe at a later time.

I personally have never been a huge fan of dog-fighter games either. I mainly chalk it up to not having found one with a ‘formula’ I like yet. For example, most racing games I really don’t care for either but there have been a couple in the past that were actually highly enjoyable and different from your ‘standard’ racing game. Perhaps if 343 got bold and creative in the same way the franchise started they could recreate this phenomenon in the dog-fighter genre too?

That said, there are other areas I might like being focused on more, as space fights are an almost wholly different battlefield separate from the rest of the already established games. Like you, I see the space content of Halo as more of an appetizer to the already existing ‘grounded’ content.

Speaking more to the OP again, seeing as 343 needs to create new assets with this new engine, I think it would be best to wait a while for any space experience unless 343 feels inspired to do so. I think they would only need to go the full game route if this inspiration lead to much more than the small helping of space combat we’ve gotten in past games.

I don’t think it should be a major focus. Reach and halo4 shows us we can have a really fun dogfight in campaign or a cool ship sequence but I think it should be kept fairly basic as it is now and time and effort should be placed on the boots on the ground portion of play.

Maybe just a story mission.

But multiplayer space battles have merit in my view, adds variety.

I’m probably the minority on this subject because I really don’t like flying missions and or air/space combat in video games. I’ll be the first to admit I’m horrible at it which makes it no fun for me. Heck take a look at all my Banshee kills across all Halo games and I bet the total isn’t more than 20!

This however doesn’t mean I am against having it in Halo for those who do want it. Just not ma thang lol

Personally I feel that a multiplayer space battle mode would not add any variety to the moment-to-moment gameplay or sandbox. If its a dedicated ship mode like the super boring BF2 mode criterion spent a big portion of the budget on. It lacks variety from my point of view. Its just hornets and banshees pew pewing in open maps. Conversely if this mode includes infantry it is simply btb on a novelty map. My stance is halo should iterate on its environmental interactivity and build maps with unique gameplay repercussions, so I’m all for a map or 2 in space. The issue I have with a dedicated space battle mode is it diverts resources to something that is already present in the engine now but with less variation of the existing gameplay. Eg what has more variety? A mode where you fly ships in space or a btb map based on boarding action with small interior infantry routes and low gravity trick jumps around floating debris while banshees dog fight in the area around the frigates or space Station with plenty of veichles spawned in a hangar? Now ask what would cost more building multiple new maps and veichles for a single mode and the odd campaign segment or building maps that allow that style of play with compatibility to the other btb gametypes and accommodates space battles and boarding actions in campaign. Consider the difference in cost and that the budget allotted to space battles could have been allotted to giving forge, custom browser and gametype settings more modular options. space battle mode is already in halo you just need to forge it. If 343i spend resources to build what did you say 4x3, airviechles? so we we 3 existing veichles in the sandbox and already we see role overlap, making 12 balanced unique veichles in a game that’s not a spaceship shooter is for me a poor use of resources and adds unnecessary bloat to the veichle sandbox. All in all I’m pretty much your antithesis in this regard as I think the idea damages the game as a whole, costs us variety, unnecessarily splits the btb player base into group a(classic) group b(space ship battle) and invariably group c (infantry only btb) but one map on btb with customs or gamevarients can provide all 3 and avoid fragmenting the community.

I would love to see full fledged space battles like in battlefront 2; however, I’m not going to hold my breath for them to be included.

I think it’s more likely that we could get a BTB map that is two ships side by side and the only way to get from one to another is via smaller vehicles. I think it would work great for objective game types. Each ship could be equipped with turrets or other defensive options that the opposing team could destroy or try to slip past.

I could even see it working as a spiritual successor to invasion where one team has to complete a series of tasks to lower the opposing ships shields, then destroy it

I always loved Invasion.
