What type of rank system do you guys think will be used in Halo Infinite?
I personally hope for a Halo 2 type ranking system. I liked how challenging and rewarding it was to obtain the next rank. I also liked once you were past a 43 the ranks turned to symbols. I wouldn’t mind a Halo 3 rank system as long as it is a bit more challenging to obtain. What do you guys hope for?
I’m hoping for an XP levelling system & a Ranked MP system.
As much as I know people love getting ranked purely off of skill it can take away from the casual experience too.
Halo Infinite is a jumping on point for a lot of new players, the game needs to cater to the new players & the old.
Im sure we’ll get a level up via XP and Ranked playlists will probably be similar to Halo 5/MCC.
I would like to see a social playlist rank (honestly the winning games to rank up was a great idea). Anyone can reach max rank with this system too, will just take longer for others.
I’m not a huge fan of having an extremely large exp figure with completely random amounts of exp thrown out, mostly for just time played. I don’t think it’s meaningful and I never have any motivation to hit the highest rank.
For ranked, I don’t mind what they do as long as they make parties play parties the priority and solo players play with solo players. In Halo 3 ranked you couldn’t play against a party of 4 if you queued as as a 2. I thought that was a very fair system.
The Halo 2 system could be fine, obviously was handled awfully in Halo MCC, but I remember it being good on Halo 2. I just think taking into the enemy teams rank should be considered, as you do deserve to go down less/up more if the competition is higher. A mix of Halo 2/3 would be good. I’d not consider teammates ranks so that will solve the deranking/boosting issue.
If they want to go with Halo 5 seasons then I’m cool with that too. I like the idea of a longer term grind for ranked, but what can you do. Don’t know if it’s the same as Overwatch but I love their system. Whatever your previous ELO rating was, you cant place higher or lower by 500 from your previous ranking so in a way you do retain your rank. I like working up through the lower ranks though, it takes away some of the fun when you can become the top rank on the game after 5-10 ranked games. I know the purpose of ranked is mainly to secure competitive games, but still.
Honestly, pulling the military style rankings from reach would be amazing. Just keep XP (to level up) and credits (to purchase armor) as separate rewards after a match.
That would be the perfect system in my opinion.
It’s pretty well known that Infinite is going to build on the individual ranking system within Halo 5, but also provide so much more information because the UI/UX will be designed to convey it. So, expect to see something akin to the Bronze-Onyx system; though, maybe they alter some of the labels or have a toggle that can represent a number system akin to the 1-50 system.
I believe Infinite may also involve pre-registered team-based ranks too; meaning, registered fireteams won’t receive the variable individual adjustments, but this’ll require registering a fireteam similar to how Spartan Companies are registered.
I also wouldn’t be surprised to see playlist experience ranks return too; meaning, you can earn some form of rank for the pure amount of time spent playing a particular playlist with its mode(s). In the past these were often represented by military ranks. I kind of would like to see the military ranks return.
Finally there will be your character’s overall experience rank which has been represented by the Spartan Rank (SR) system in the past couple games. I would suspect that returns too, but I hope it goes up to rank 343 this time with the grind between SR340 - 343 being pretty massive. Bigger than the SR150-152 grind in H5.

Yes, I hope party play comes back as well! I really hope this comes back as it was the most fair system. I hate Qing up solo just to face a team of 4.

Halo 2 all day. Skill based. Was perfect. Even the icons were awesome.

My suggestion is less to do with the mechanics of the ranking system, and more to do with how everything is visually displayed on screen.
What I’d like to see is a visible rank icon next to your gamertag, made up of 3 progressing systems.
The first would be the return of the Recruit-to-General based system, with the visible rank insignia. This would be the XP based system that awards you for games played and your performance. I agree with others in that the numbers shouldn’t be so high. Giving you 1000 points for a match complete means that years down the line, we’ll be needing to reach numbers in the 100’s of millions, and its just messy to look at on screen. If they scaled it down to something like 10 points for a match complete, and others for performance awarded respectively, it means it’ll be a while before you’re squinting your eyes to see that your current rank is “274,304,743,896 of 274,500,000,000”. - The second would be an adjacent number denoting your Tour progression each time you hit General. The benefit of tying the Tours to a number is that you can increase it indefinitely for the years to come. However they could do something interesting, like after you reach Tour 20, the Recruit-to-General system would flip to a set of 30 new ranks, names like Inheritor, Reclaimer, Mythic, etc, with new insignias. This would definitely give players a reason to keep ranking up. - The third would be and indication of your highest rank in the Ranked Playlists. This could be in the form of a shield behind the rank insignia and number, similar to how the MCC shows your Tours. It would be a 1 to 50 style system similar to Halo 3, but visualised through increasingly more ornate shields in different colours. For instance, there could be 5 different shield variations, which repeat through 10 different colours schemes; UNSC Green, Gun metal grey, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Onyx, Diamond, Banished Red, Covenant Purple and Forerunner Neon. They could have 3 to 5 special shields for the top percentile of players, similar to Halo 5The entire rank symbol wants to be nice and clear, so its nice and easy to see what rank people are without having to deep-dive into their service record.
1-50 skill for ranked NEEDS to come back it was the best bit about halo it was so much fun the grind getting to 50 with call outs with your friends in each playlist and you truly knew how good someone was seeing their highest skill, games played and games won and kd ratio etc! Absolutely loved halo 3 ranking system and if this doesn’t have similar I know I’ll get bored of it in a week or so and stop playing it, it’s what the newer ones needed the halo games became soo boring when literally anyone could achieve the highest rank just from playing more than you. In my opinion the only people that don’t want a 1-50 system again are the people that never reached captain and I know sooo many people that agree with me and lost interest so quickly without that system.

I still don’t get the mindset of 1-50 vs Bronze to Onxy. It’s the same system (TrueSkill)… just different descriptors.
And if I don’t mind if they do bring back the 1-50 - but because the old ‘50’ was such a broad skill range (Diamond 3 up to Champion) they will either have to adjust the skill spread (which will frustrate the Hell out of everyone who thinks they should be a 50 but are no longer anywhere near it) or extend it out to be 1-60.
And please no K:D. It’s utterly pointless - and encourages poor game-play.
Forgive me if I’m mis-remembering Halo 3 playlist ranks (it’s been a while) - but did anyone really get hung up about them? I don’t recall losing exp points for a loss… so all you had to do was be a monkey at the typewriter (slash controller) and you would eventually rank up. And I don’t see how that relates to someone’s preference for 1-50 over Bronze-Onyx.

What about a 1-50 with tiers for 50’s similar to the Halo Reach Tracker website(50 G1 - 50 G7)? When it comes to Halo 3 social playlist ranks, they were a positive addition to Halo 3 and extended life span of the game. You would gain a single EXP point for a win and would lose an EXP point for quitting a game, if you were a general in team snipers you could show off that rank in the playlist so people would know you are experienced.
