Halo Infinite Multiplayer Ideas

Hi everybody! I can’t wait until 343 reveals more about Halo Infinite, but in the meantime I thought I’d just put down some of my thoughts about what I think could be really cool for multiplayer. I personally think that Halo 5’s multiplayer was pretty well done, although some of the maps could be a bit better. I think that equipment coming back would be a great way to balance multiplayer as well. Instead of giving everyone numerous mobility or defensive options right off spawn, you should fight for control of these abilities on the map. I believe that this is a core aspect of what makes Halo’s gameplay unique in the multiplayer space, and I’m glad that it’s coming back.

I have also recently been playing a lot of Halo 5’s Mythic Arena playlist, and I actually really like the speed and pace of the game in that playlist. I’ll be honest, the first time I tried out Mythic Arena, I didn’t really like it because I felt like the movement speed was too high and the jumps were too floaty. I also felt like it was very difficult for me to shoot things, but that turned out to be because I set my sensitivity too high :(. I still think the jumps might be a little bit too…I don’t really know how to describe it, but sometimes when I just want to do a short little hop over a small barrier that doesn’t require me to crouch jump, I will jump far too high and feel like I’m just hanging in the air. Perhaps that is just something I will have to get used to. I also really dig the map designs in the Mythic playlist (except for Abyss, I suck on Abyss…) and think that the maps offer a good mix of places to crouch jump for strategic movement. The increased movement speed allows for some awesome strafe battles, and I honestly don’t miss sprint when I’m playing in that playlist.

TLDR: I think the Mythic Arena playlist can serve as a great starting point for Infinite’s multiplayer, and the reintroduction of equipment pickups sounds like a great idea to get back to that classic Halo arena feel where map control is incredibly important. I’m honestly a bit indifferent on whether or not sprint should be included in multiplayer, but I think it will all come down to map design. Let me know what you guys think!

As you say 343 did a pretty good job on H5 multiplayer.
Im only expecting warzone for Halo Infinite.

I’m excited to see what they bring to the table.

I’m currently getting right back into Halo 5. Loving it. But I also loved all it’s predecessors.

Can’t wait to see what a new age Forge adds to the party.

Would love to see a lot more options in Customs. Particularly with individual settings - my regular group varies from mid-Diamond to Bronze 6 - so I would love to be able to handicap each player differently.

Also like to see something done to even up games after someone quits. Buff the smaller team? Nerf the better one? Or add a ‘bench’ so that numbers are evened up on the field - with the extra player rotated in with each death.

Bring back Juggernaut!

New official creative gamemodes would be fun! With maps to fit

I like the idea of bringing back equipment. Maybe not the Reach equipment (especially armor lock), but the Halo 3 equipment might work well in Infinite.

And I want to see the T-bag restored to it’s former glory.

Remember when Bungie set it up so your hologram would run over and do it for you!

Custom games only of course (works best vs mates)… but some sort of T-bag medal. Or scoring (double points if you stay and bag). Or even game type based around it.

I would like to see some sort of warzone/firefight mode
E.g. You are in a team of 8 players where you have to survive endless wave of banished on a semi-open map
The more you progress, the more area you unlock with certain types of vehicles but the deadlier the enemies become

Oooh I like that idea. It reminds me a little bit of the Zombies from COD where you can get points to unlock new areas of the map to access better equipment and guns. I do really hope they bring back the endless mode. I understand a lot of people don’t want to spend two hours or more in one firefight match but having the option to do an endless wave mode would be great!

Juggernaut was such a fun mode! I really hope that 343 will come up with some wackier game modes and feature them in a weekly social playlist. This could be a great complement to a custom games browser as well. The bench idea is very interesting. They could do something like that in social gamemodes. Arena might be a different beast but if done correctly that idea could work rather well.

Yeah back in the day t-bagging was a lot more prevalent. I can see some people complaining about it adding to toxicity in the game, but t-bagging is relatively harmless compared to other things. I know it just makes me want to find the person who t-bagged me and get them back, but if you’re t-bagging you should kinda expect me to come back for you lol. The hologram was so much fun when it did it for you though. I don’t know if you know about Splitgate: Arena Warfare, but they have a mode where its like Kill confirmed but instead of picking up a dog tag you have to go over to the body and t-bag it.

Yeah the Reach equipment was basically almost like bringing loadouts into the match with you. That probably doesn’t play so well in a classic Halo sense. Although there were some playlists in Reach where you had to pick up the armor abilities on the map. Still, Halo 3 style equipment is probably the best solution.

It would be fantastic in Custom games. Our “T-bag Tuesday” get together often has an odd number of players… which makes it difficult to split into even teams. And a lot of the maps / game-modes just suit 4v4… so it would be great to have a bench system to rotate players in and out.

It could work in social arena as well. We often have 5 - 6 players in our fire-team - and it would be great to play in the 4-man games. Simply rotate players off the bench with each death so that there is always four Spartans on the ground.

And I think the bench system would work great with the join in progress feature. If player(s) drop out - then the bench is used to keep the teams even until more players can be found to join in. That should minimise the score blow outs which contribute to JIP being a bit jarring.

Ranked arena may be a little more contentious… but there is nothing more frustrating than uneven sides. Just as much for the side dominating as the side with fewer numbers. And wouldn’t you rather win the game 3 v 3 and have the result actually count?

Bring back Dominion but combined with Warzone and Firefight for an objective based assault and defend gamemode where both teams can capture areas of the map to unlock weapon drops/spawns, build turrets, lead AI fireteams and a Last Stand mechanic for the defenders and a Final Charge mechanic for the attackers should each side lose/fail all objectives.

That is a really cool idea! It would create a really interesting tug-of-war between the two teams. Sounds a little bit like Invasion from Reach as well, although to be honest my memory of Invasion is a bit fuzzy.

I can see this working quite well in Social Arena. Like you say, the team with 4 should have the next player to die on their team go onto the bench and then rotate in and out until the short-handed team gets another player through JIP. Ranked arena has never had JIP and I honestly think that it shouldn’t. I like the idea of having a good punishment for having a teammate leave the team. If you are leaving a ranked match, you should know that you are handing your team a huge disadvantage and that should be enough to discourage someone from leaving. That being said, a lot of times people will leave anyway. It’s hard to find a good solution to that problem unfortunately.

Have an arena playlist so everyone doesn’t have to play against randoms (skill level) it really (can) change the players experience just like playing with skulls on. Make the skulls more accessible to public what if people had to search for hours to play arena, the player count might be non existent.

I would really like to see the Act man’s multiplayer idea on halo infinite, it’s pretty much mashing up the best of warzone, invasion, dominion, Operation and conquest (battlefront 2) all into one large scale war. The only issue is that the amount of resources for a mode like that would be enormous but I can see that game mode payoff has a lot of replayability. I mean, there are some people that mainly only play invasion in halo reach.

If you don’t want to watch the video I could give a quick example
1: The game would start out with a cinematic with covenant dropships landing into the pillar of autumn , both teams (elites and spartans) will be able to customize their loadouts or just have everything on the map.
2:Elites will try to bypass the spartans and destroy vital areas while capturing command posts to assist them in their objective, each time they do the more of the map that is revealed.
3:Their can be blastdoors that can be opened or close making new routes, automated turrets etc
4:Next objective would be for the elites to sabotage the aircraft, elites have the choice of being respawned in a phantom to be dropped of in the hangar to be in a banshee strike squad or move on the ship from foot.
5:If all of the aircraft is destroyed the elites will move to the next objective, breach the bridge or kill captain keys. If elite forces lose all their lives they lose
Then you have some ai troops backing you up, and the ability to create other defensive mechanisms in specific areas.

This might sound crazy but my idea was maybe 343 can perhaps create two separate playlists in matchmaking/multiplayer.

Simple as put, one playlist with abilities and one playlist that doesn’t have abilities. That way, it can appease to classic players and new players alike.

But as I can imagine, there may be a whole lot of complications with overall map design if they were to take that route. They would literally have to create map specific maps that are designed for the player mechanics in each playlist. And I know player mechanics are one of the main things that originally defined Halo too. But hopefully there can be something like that in Infinite, that would be pretty cool lol. Maybe that can create a potential peace-treaty amongst classic players, new players, and 343 lol.

Not sure that would work. You wouldn’t want to fracture the playlists like that.

Halo needs to establish it’s direction and stick with it.

There will always be customs and forge for those who want to follow a different path.

Besides… it’s not necessarily as black and white as custom vs abilities. Lots of people see shades of grey in lots of the facets. Are you going to have a separate playlist for those who hate sprint, but like thrusters, and are somewhat lukewarm about clamber?

Mythic Arena playlist was awesome, unfortunately they chose the worst possible choice for gameplay…
