You would have been better off calling it Halo Finite.
I like the what equipment is in this game, overall the sandbox feels better than H5 imo
Sliding was indeed invented and popularized for the typical FPS game when Titanfall made it a core value in a PvP experience. Just about every major shooter copies it. Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Halo are prime examples.
Since higher-speed shooters make use of the ability effectively to move cover-to-cover and be a reasonably tough target to hit, it makes sense to use them in some shooters. Meanwhile other sandboxes it doesn’t really fit, which is why PUBG, Gears of War, and Rainbow Six didn’t adopt the ability.
Clambering is something that isn’t really a mobility shooter aspect. The earlier shooters of the 2000s offered clamber as a means of vaulting over obstacles.
It’s introduction into Halo 5 was just common sense given the fact that in previous games you would barely miscalculate a jump, have your toes catch on a ledge, and then fall down either into a disadvantageous position or into a chasm to your death.
What makes a mobility shooter a mobility shooter is inlaid abilities to traverse an envirionment in a matter that is unrealistic to perform IRL.
Titanfall has wall-running, a jump-pack thruster, and depending on which class you spawn in as; you have a built-in grapple-hook. But those were inlaid abilities that allowed everyone to get around each map with ease.
Halo 5 introduced a thruster pack that allowed you to boost around at will, an inlaid ability that let you suddenly change direction. Having that ability become an equipment you can pick up now has both increased its value as a tool and offered more balance to things such as sniping and vehicular splattering as now you are an easier target unless you pick up a thruster pack
Very true, Halo 1 was something special and had various map sizes with an extensive amount of classic maps that are still the best in the whole series. H1 could be slow on some maps though (lol Infinity) but all in all it provided what shaped Halo into what we all love, or used to.
even if only available for custom games/fiesta and forge… old weapons, vehicles, and armor abilities/equipment need to return. not a high priority, i get it. but down the 10 year line (if it’l even get to that point) i’d like to see old things return, even if not in any matchmaking
like the:
plasma rifle, carbine, brute shot, fuelrod, concusion rifle, repeater, needle rifle, beam rifle, pump shotgun, magnum, flamethrower, smg, spartan laser, missile pod, plasma turret, spiker, mangler, incendiary grendade, dmr, grenade launcher, plasma launcher (reach or 5), target locator
rocket hog, gouse hog, needle hog, falcon, hornet, spector (or) prowler
H5 weapon/vehicle varrients
radar jammer, drop shield, hologram, deployable cover, flare, grav lift, trip mine, power drain, regenerator, evade, and the jetpack (limited uses of course)
i ain’t asking for them all, or for them to come right away… but over time, over each season or 10 year plan, i’d like to see most if not all of these added at some point in time. even if just for forge and custom games. an expansive sandbox for players to use, even if not in matchmaking, is always wunderbar. like in reach - 5
Idk man… seems like halo 5 was generally disliked by the majority of the fan base. Im not saying it was bad because I enjoyed it. It’s just that I think the game wouldve been just as good without thrusters, melee charging, or the ground pounds.
Overall, though, it’s a better experience than halo infinite by far simply because it actually has content. If infinite had co op, forge, real rank progression, and the other staples of halo, it would be a fantastic title. As it sits, it’s honestly one of the worst halos. Hopefully that doesn’t last forever.
