Personally I think in Halo Infinite they should make the SOF Marine design looking like the HW1 Marines and the Infinity Marines as the weird looking dudes 
Make the SOF Marines better trained and armor more resilient while the Infinity has more of them. Keep the two time eras separate and distinct from each other…if the SOF and Infinty do meet up. Also Sgt.Forge needs to return (Look for that post in the Halo Wars area)
It would make more sense for the SOF marines to look different, as you said above. They’re 30 years behind the rest of the UNSC in terms of uniforms.
As for Forge, how would he be able to return? He sacrificed himself to save the SOF. Lore-wise 343 could come up with some convoluted way for him to have survived the event (like a translocation grid or something, idk). But that would just cheapen his sacrifice imo.
I’m very doubtful that Sgt. Forge will return at all as he went Supernova to save the Spirit of Fire. However, it’s possible to see the crew of Spirit of Fire in Halo Infinite as the events of Halo Wars 2 will tie into Halo Infinite’s story in some capacity. Maybe the Chief will receive a transmission from Professor Anders.

I would love it if there was a moment in Infinite where Chief is on the bridge of the Infinity (or some other ship if the Infinity is destroyed) and a comms officer gets a strange signal on an old UNSC band coming from the Ark. Then when Lasky tells the comms officer to put the signal over the loud speaker, Chief immediately recognizes it as the tune of Oly Oly Oxen Free and visibly tenses at the sound, somehow knowing it’s the long lost Red Team on the Ark. It just seems like such a cool way to introduce Red Team and the SOF into Infinite and gives a nice nod to lore fans who know that sound so well.

Same here OP… same here. Such a great character.
I mean, I would prefer Halo Wars marine design to be the overall marine design, it’s basically a Halo 2 design with updated graphics & goggles.
Other original trilogy marine designs could be fine aswell, the newer designs just resemble killzone troopers far too much, which is basically one of the most hideous sci-fi uniform designs in general.
