Halo Infinite map size

So far we are told that we will be able to explore all of the installation, do you think they will include the entire installation, or just part of it, like they did with new mombasa in ODST? I am hoping it will be the entire installation.

Are you referring to the campaign? If you are, I’m sure it would be the entire installation as they said infinites campaign is “several times larger then our last two halo games combined”

Yes, the campaign.

There’s no way its the whole thing unless they pull some serious scale shinanigans.

Halos have a comparable diameter to earth, its surface area would be like that of the US…not counting internal levels.

Pretty sure you’d have to effectively square the area from the previous games to achieve true scale.

You do have a good point, It would get pretty crazy and would be hard to pull off.

The main problem with true scale is keeping it interesting.

It doesn’t make sense the banished would be setting down on every square inch of the ring, they’d presumably be in points of interest (cartographers, control rooms, the library etc), meaning you’d presumably have vast swathes of land with nothing to fight. There’d also need to be an effective fast travel system which would in turn make this massive world feel small again unless people want to spend hours flying in a pelican from point A to point B.

Now, if they do some scale shinanigans, like how WoW fits all of its planet in a small space, its doable. The challenge becomes making the ring feel big but not too big at the same time.

Halo hasn’t necessarily played with scale before. Usually it just shows you sections of bigger things and lets your imagination do the rest. The only real situation is sort of the reverse, where the Pillar of Autumn’s interior in CE is bigger than its exterior.

The part they showed us in the gameplay demo looked like a very small portion of the world (according to the map shown in the gameplay). His journey from there pelican to one anti aircraft turret was only about 1/20 of the map shown in the demo, and we couldn’t even see the entire map in the demo so I’m assuming this map is pretty big. And that mission was about half way, and several hours into the story according to 343, meaning there is lots of places to go to and a bunch of missions (and side missions according to the inside infinite article) to get through. Between the open world, the campaign, and side missions I’d say this map is very big… I wouldn’t say gigantic, but it is definitely the biggest campaign by far

When they say several times larger then the last two games combined, I’m assuming you just combine all of the world from halo 4’s missions combine all of the world from halo 5’s missions, add that combined world from halo 5 to halo 4 and multiply it several times (2 or 3 times). If you do that, then you can really imagine how big this ring is

Overall I hope it’s not like Halo 4’s simulation game or Halo 5’s Palmers announcing voice…

Edit:

About the map size: I’m always fine with bigger and bigger as long as I can forge on that map. Was a huge dissapointment when I found out with the start of Halo 5 that we are not able to forge on Warzone maps.

Yeah, hopefully not.

Exploring the entire installation would be cool. In fact, Joseph Staten hinted about the campaign being full open world in December 2020’s Inside Infinite “Do I explore off the golden path? Assault that Banished war base guarding the valley pass? Follow a flight of Forerunner Sentinels into that unexpected cavern? Rescue a squad of marines dug-in and desperate halfway up that mountain? Or do I keep pulling the mainline story thread that feels epic and intimate at the exact same time?” I am hoping the map is somewhere from at least Arkham City size to Skyrim size at most. A GTAV/Cyberpunk size open world would be amazing but I don’t think it’ll happen

Is it confirmed to be FULL open world? They have been kinda vague on the open world aspect of the game. I really want to know more. Will it be full open world, like GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Skyrim, The Witcher 3, etc. where you can go from one point to the other end without any loading screens? Or maybe it is semi open world, meaning the game will have open world sections, and you’ll have loading and all, in order to go into the next section?
Can we just stop playing the missions and just explore the big open world, like we do in GTA V, Red Dead, etc.?
I am thinking it will be more of a semi open world, which in itself would probably justify the 60 dollar price for the Campaign(since multiplayer is separate and Free to Play). Being full open world will almost certainly justify the 60 dollar price.

yaaaaaaaaaay i cant wait - said no one, ever

As long as they make the map the exact right perfect size so everyone is happy and no one has any reason to complain at all, there shouldn’t be a problem.
