Halo Infinite Launch Title for next gen XBOX

Spoiler Alert- No official news in this thread.
So how about this new slip space engine pretty exciting right? What if 343 industries had something bigger planned for infinite, and this future halo game is not being designed for xbox one at all? I personally would love the idea of Microsoft’s flagship game ushering in the next generation of consoles in the xbox brand. I know the wait is long for us , but i do really feel this could be something special if wait long enough. One thing that would be great would be a limited edition launch console for halo infinite. Could you imagine how big this could actually be if perfectly executed. I know Halo infinite is going to be amazing regardless of which platform it is launched but man would i love to sport a new Xbox, with The Master Chief bringing us a truly breathtaking experience on the next gen Xbox. So Let me know in the comment section below what your thoughts are for infinite, and what you would think a late launch could mean for Halo infinite. Is this to long or is it everything you have been waiting for to se infinite on a next generation Xbox in your living room!!

The possibilities are endless if we dream big!!

As big as something like that would be, I’m lowkey hoping it’s gonna be released on the Xbox One since I just got an Xbox One X last year lol.

No need to only hope. It’s been confirmed to be an Xbox One title that will be playable on any of the consoles in the Xbox One family (original, S, X). It’ll also be a Windows 10 title.

Awesome! I’ve got HW2 on my PC so it’ll be nice to have it for both console & desktop this time.

As stated by another member, Halo Infinite will be launching on the current gen. I think it might be a cross gen launch though, but that is just my opinion. As for buying the next gen with Halo ? I will be waiting until well after the release date before buying Halo Infinite, there is not enough info to make a commitment imo, and after Halo 5 it’s not a must buy for me anymore, it’s a possible purchase.

From what I remember from last years E3, Microsoft keeps hinting that all future Xbox consoles will still be apart of the Xbox One family.

I agree, but the hinting is not facts. I think we could do with a little clarification, I remember things being said like (no one gets left behind). I’m no tech expert, but there comes a time where a console is obsolete, or not up to the task at hand. Look at the launch day console, it struggles to load textures in quite a few games. Like I said, we need info from 343i and Microsoft. E3 this year ? Who knows ?

Oh lord, thankfully they have confirmed it is a Xbox one title. Sure it might just go cross-gen, but i can barely handle the wait for footage alone :b

It’s already been confirmed to launch on current hardware. That doesn’t mean it can’t also be on the next gen xbox. Microsoft already announced they’re working o the next xbox so it wouldn’t surprise me if it were coming out in the next couple years. I would love to see H6 as a launch title in fall 2020.

Thank you guys for all the input very good stuff :sunglasses:

If Halo 6 a launch title for next gen console i’ll be sad

No need to be sad. Even if it is compatible with the next generation of Xbox consoles (and that’s a big “if”), it still will be playable on the Xbox One family of consoles.

OP asks: “What if 343 industries had something bigger planned for infinite, and this future halo game is not being designed for xbox one at all?”

As others have said, 343i’s Frank O’Connor has confirmed that Infinite is being made for the Xbox One family and Windows 10.

But there won’t be any Backwards Compatibility issues with the new “Project Scarlett” Next-Gen consoles this time. Phil Spencer confirmed (at CES 2019) that current Xbox One chipmaker AMD are making the new console chips again, which helps ensure forwards and backwards compatibility. See why from the history of Xbox tech:

Xbox (2001) - Intel/AMD x86 chips
XBox 360 - IBM Power PC processor and PowerVR Graphics (different kind of chip which uses very different code, so broke forwards and backwards compatibility, but gave a big graphics power upgrade at the time)
Xbox One - AMD x86 chips running Windows 10 & DirectX
Scarlett - AMD x86 chips running Windows 10 & DirectX, same as the current Xbox One, so anything that runs on XBox One should run on the new Scarlett machines.

So, just think of the upcoming Scarlett machines as being the S2 and X2 - new more powerful versions of the One S and One X, and increasing the number of games that will run at 4K/60fps with high quality graphics etc.

That means Slipspace Engine just needs to be easily “scalable” so that they can add extra image quality at 60fps to the new consoles, if 343i want to add “Scarlett Enhancements”.

Since Realtime DirectX 12 Ray-Tracing (DXR) for improved lighting/shadowing and reflections in games, and DLSS (NVidia’s AI anti-aliasing, which can be done on AMD chips using Windows 10 DirectML), are the only real new tech around lately, we can only wait and see whether it will be included as extras on the next XBoxes or not.

Altogether, this means all games that currently run on Xbox One (OG, S and X) should run on the new Scarlett consoles at launch, including your entire Halo Library - Halo:MCC, H5, HW2, and all Backwards Compatible titles such as Xbox360 Halo: Reach etc, as well as the new upcoming Halo Infinite.

With Next-Gen Scarlett machines, it’s literally just like getting a One X to replace an original XB1 - “You can upgrade console power for better pictures and framerates if and when when you’re ready to and can afford it”. Cool, huh?

343 already confirmed that it’ll launch on Xbox one but it’s possible it could launch the same time on next gen console as well. If this is the case it would be a great way for Xbox to start off for next gen console.

It should be close and if launched simultaneously on two generations of consoles it should prevent splitting the community, if not everyone can upgrade at the launch of the new xbox. Im super excited to see how this plays out!!

As others have said, it’s confirmed for Xbox One, but if I had to bet, I’d wager that it will also be on the new Xbox system as well.
