Halo Infinite Isn’t Expensive

I know what you’re thinking…BUT THE STORE.

Multiplayer is free, campaign can be accessed through game pass (at the very least get 1 month of game pass and cancel before renewal…that is plenty of time to beat the campaign). I also feel as though the campaign is fairly generous with multiplayer unlocks.

I understand the store prices are expensive, however the barrier for entry with the whole package can be as low as $1 (first time game pass subscribers). You can buy the battle pass and even a few store items and still remain below the $60 price tag that other games have. Be more savvy with your money. Don’t stay mad over a $20 pineapple in the store.

Why spend $5 on an actual pineapple that will last maybe a month when you can spend $20 on virtual pineapples that will last 10 years lol.

I agree with what you have to say. I don’t need to pay for cosmetics, and the longer people don’t buy store items the more pressure it puts on 343 to change the prices to something more generally affordable.

The base game (with or without the battlepass) has some solid value, especially when they add a separate progression system.

You’re right. That’s partly why the game isn’t a complete bust for me, I spent $9.99 and some tax. I would have paid even more money though if the MP came with a progression system similar to previous Halo multiplayers.

But the real issue is that instead of 343 focusing on pineapples or teddy bears… they should be adding new playlists, game modes, and fixing issues first. Instead, they did exactly what Rockstar did with Red Dead Online and put a god darn store inside of a supposed “beta.” lol The Store was more important than basic game content, that’s the issue I have with this whole ordeal. 343, right from the beginning has shown us their hand… and it is not in our favor folks… sorry to break it to ya…

I doubt the design team for cosmetics would also be responsible for adding new playlists, game modes, etc.

But yes I agree with you on everything else.

Why is the cosmetic design team delivering stellar work, but the rest of the teams are falling behind or on holiday or busy?

This is the issue angering players.

I think a lot of the development on near future cosmetics has been complete for a little while (lots of leaks showing cosmetics for quite some time).

I think it’s just a bad time with the holidays being so immediate after the release. I think January/February will be a good time for the game.

They designed it that way in purpose. F2P with a store to make more potential money. It’s sales strategies that is backfiring on them.

The point I am trying to make is 343’s priorities are cosmetics… they have even admitted it.

We want game content, new modes and bug fixes, yes, they finally gave us a few of those, but it took us twisting their arm to get it. Otherwise, we’d still be playing what they gave us at launch.

Here’s my experience in the IT world. When working with systems typically in large companies they have something called change management, where every change needs to be reviewed by other teams to make sure it doesn’t impact other systems. At my place of work these reviews happen once a week, with emergency changes having auto approval and some form of remediation if the emergency change negatively impacts another system.

There are also expedited changes that don’t need to be reviewed on the weekly basis but still require approval from other teams before they can be taken into effect, typically these are smaller QoL changes that have been done a few times before.

Changes to systems don’t just happen, they need to be reviewed, questioned and planned meticulously or else it can have dire consequences. That is why backend changes seem to take so long (in my experience). Please note, I don’t work for a video game company, this is just a general scope of how changes happen, often times, in tech reliant companies

I’m just pointing out alternatives. Of course it’s designed on purpose, they need some sort of business model to generate a profit.

I’m just saying, you can access a pretty fair amount of content for much less than $60. Whether you choose to indulge in the store is up to you. The main mistake I would say they made with the store is monetizing legacy content…I think that was a mis-step.

The problem is that they are saying 3 customization options in Halo Infinite are worth the ENTIRE Halo: Reach video game. That’s kinda not okay.

I don’t think that the expectation is to buy the entire store though.

Business models have changed, halo reach charged for maps back in the day. Maps are free moving forward in infinite. Core content in this game is more readily accessible than it ever has been. The main game experience can now be enjoyed with more people.

This is overtly an assumption. I don’t believe there’s any sales data regarding in game store items.

For all we know it could be working very well. But that’s an assumption as well without data to back it up.

Looks like we’re both at an unprovable impasse.

Are we talking current used prices? MCC prices? I personally paid $150 for my copy, then an additional $60 for MCC on Xbox which only included Reach much later, then an additional $30 when it came to Steam. Excluding my legendary edition copy and launch state MCC, I haven’t seen any $60-$90 cosmetics in the store.

The problem is they’re reselling items from previous titles at twice the actual value in order to make a profit.

That’s the main gripe I have with items from the store. You can’t do that and expect people to not be angry.

If I’m paying $20, I’m expecting an item worth it’s price tag. Reach came out 11 years ago. I shouldn’t find anything Reach related priced like that in the store.

Multiplayer being free doesn’t give you the right to overcharge reused content.

Even worse, halo reach is $10 in MCC so hazop armor in infinite is worth more than reach alone :skull_and_crossbones:

This is my main gripe. I’ve spent a ton of time unlocking everything in Reach, only to have it resold in Infinite’s shop. That doesn’t feel so great as a player, and I’m sure many others feel the same way you and I do.

Reach was a good idea for a first battle pass, but is a bit sullied by the fact that some OG armor pieces are locked behind paywalls. I have no problem with paying for cosmetics to support the devs, but for the prices the shop asks for, you would think that maybe the Mark V customizations would be a bit more expanded.

Mark V being an older Mjolnir model opens up the possibility for experimental helmets, attachments, and more. You know, things we’ve never seen before but share similar design aspects to the newer Mjolnir models. Sort of like predecessor models of what we see in Gen 2 and Mark VII. Now those I would pay for, even at the current price range.

Doesn’t matter if a game comes on Game Pass as you don’t own the game. You should always compare it to the retail price. If you’re gonna use the Game Pass arguement the it’s the most expensive since you have to keep paying it to play.

It’s not expensive, it’s just it’s structure was deliberately broken. In reality the game is a mess that was released with false promises.

With the way that they’ve marketed the customization I highly doubt that the maps are going to be free and Halo reach map packs aren’t the same as buying a helmet for $20 I’m much more willing to spend $10 on a map pack that gives me like six different maps to play on then I am a single cosmetic item comparing maps to customization items is a bit silly they’re not the same thing
