Halo Infinite is unplayable for RX 580 and a few other AMD cards

Hopefully someone at 343 Industries notices all these threads, with some optimization patches, I can see Halo Infinite’s campaign being very fun to play, but until then it’s just not all that enjoyable playing at sub-30fps

I already contacted support. All they said was to update drivers which I already did.

Thank you for giving it a shot!

This has no output, the 343 support, he sent me to download the latest amd drivers, I told them about my rx590 gpu and they sent me to download a driver that increases the performance of the new series, what attention they give me.
On the other hand amd, send me to talk to 343. They don’t want to work.

Just got the game for christmas and I have the exact same issue. Multiplayer works perfectly and the campaign is great up until after the first boss, then it becomes practically unplayable. I summited a ticket but as of now theres no reply. Hopefully they fix this soon since I was really having fun with what little of the campaign I got to play.

welp. All you can do is insist the driver updates do not fix campaign performance issues…

I just got told that its been sent to the devs and that I’ll be contacted if its fixes through an update or if they want me to try something, so hopefully this is being worked on. Also as others have already said submitting a ticket really helps let them know how many people are experiencing this problem!

Unfortunately not had the greatest luck here so far, got the same response on RX 580 (after they closed my initial ticket saying it was fixed with the armor crate hotfix for campaign), I was told to update to the latest drivers - when in the ticket I specifically chose and stated I was already on the latest driver, I did get a second response saying that the issues was logged and they are investigating again though.

A small update from my last post - I have now tried the newest available AMD drivers (22.1.1) - and unfortunately, those perform even worse on Halo Infinite than the previous version did on Polaris GPUs, lost about 5fps and back to crashing every 5 minutes no matter what settings, it’s now back to playable at horrible framerates after rolling back to 21.12.1.

Amd and 343 are behaving very badly with users. Only those who buy new gpu’s benefit. I understand that they are old gpu, but that it yields less than a 1050 is inexcusable.

Woooow, well done AMD, well done.

Indeed it is badly optimized (also same GPU and same here for me, FH5 runs well over 5x better even on high settings), it’s not properly utilizing most GPUs as of right now, if you check your power consumption and GPU temperatures, you’ll likely find it’s quite low for running the GPU at full load.

Yeah I’ve pretty much written off this game, it’s unplayable.

Have you uninstalled the high res texture packs?
I have a 5950x & 3080ti & have to uninstall them if I want decent steady frames over 100 @1440p in single player, game also crashes less without them installed.

We pretty much all have, it helps but not enough to make a big difference.

It’d maybe make sense to uninstall the high res textures if the issue was that we are maxing out VRAM or something. but no the game uses around 5 gb. I just tried running the game without the hi-res textures and my FPS actually DROPPED.

For future reference. WHEN YOU CONTACT SUPPORT to save yourself time and sanity. Make sure you say you have done the following:

  1. Updated to the latest driver
  2. Updated Windows
  3. Disabled Game Bar and Capture settings on Windows
  4. Disabled HD Texture Pack

It took 2 months for them to suggest these. Hopefully their next response will be something that isn’t a general Troubleshooting fix for literally every game.

I did contact support starting with the very first thing being “I’ve tried the latest possible drivers”, and within 24 hours I was asked to update my drivers…sometimes, it feels like they don’t really read the contents of their tickets.

Sadly, there not much either of us can do other than keep submitting tickets and mentioning these issues until hopefully they’re acknowledged by 343i.

The performance of Halo Infinite on Polaris GPUs is so bad that I’d rather play it on my Xbox One S than my PC which is between the Xbox One X and Xbox Series S, more RAM than both, a CPU that’s about the same as the Series S (maybe slightly worse) when it comes to performance, and a GPU that’s faster than the Series S and a bit faster than the One X (and even with that being true, somehow the performance of this GPU is horrible in Infinite).

It’s no secret that Halo for PC is very unoptimized. Even people with powerful rigs are getting hiccups now and then, and once in awhile, a crash.
