this conversation must be covered. Halo infinite controller aim assist is broken and its just ridiculous that a player can be followed without touching the right joystick…youtube.com/watch?v=4S2Fz1qzPUo&ab_channel=EsportsTalk
Sorry. We don’t like to face reality on these forums.
Who is that obnoxiously screaming idiot? Aim assist is lowest it’s ever been on controller. This guy is -Yoink!- trolling. Not touching the right stick and still hitting? No -Yoink!- sherlock, he was moving with left stick in sync with the enemy opposite, allowing him to hit shots.
There’s no conversation to be had here.
Except there is. Let me explain from the stand point of someone who has used both inputs now for 10 hours each.
First a background on the game. Halo has one of the longest TTK’s of any modern shooter. Much longer then CoD or BF. Now what does a high TTK like this mean? It means that you have to be accurate for far longer then previous. CoD you can flick back and forth and get kills quickly without having to have consistent precision.
M / KB - For pretty much anyone who is not a Pro or competing at extremely high levels, having consistent, accurate aim kill after kill on this long TTK is near impossible. For example I have a 2.5+ K/D on CoD and BF yet a 1.4 on M / KB on Halo: Infinite. This is due to now having to aim for nearly 3x the time of other games.
Controller - I have NO doubt that the aim assist is less then in previous Halo’s. The thing is, if it was not tuned down it would be a slaughter against M / KB players. We have already seen in other games when aim assist is tuned too high it absolutely dominates M / KB. When playing on a controller I went from a 1.4 to a 2.3 K/D and 35-42% accuracy to 55-64% accuracy.
Conclusion: Both sides are feeling something new and different. M / KB players are having to learn to adjust to a longer TTK and learning to have longer precision aim. While controller players are having to learn how to adjust to a lower aim assist. As it stands right now I think the balance is actually in a pretty damn good place, I think controller is a tad stronger at close to medium range, while M / KB beats our precision shots like sniping.
For me being a 10 year M / KB user for FPS games I am actually switching to my controller now, because it just feels better.
Only 343 will know the numbers internally if M+KB is really struggling. Even in your “tests” I have no idea how controlled it was. You must be recording all your data for 10 hours each since we currently cannot see stats.
Was it against the same people (some people literally don’t strafe, can barely hold a controller it seems, have never heard of jumping)? With the same teammates (team work with even a below average player makes life easier)? Different weapons? Different maps (different type of engagements favor different types of players)? Did you play ranked? Social? Crossplay ranked? Could the skill ceiling simply be larger with M+KB? Outside of 343 directly addressing it - I would only trust pro level players scrimming against each other and doing an analysis on this switching back and forth - as I would at least know those players names and have seen them play - while I have no idea what your talent level is or how troll you are.
I do think controller has the advantage for sure for what that’s worth - only seems logical - and find it hysterical all the people who are currently afraid of M+KB while using controller.
Creating a thread to try to tell people who are calling out and obvious issue with the controller they are wrong…cool
Anyone who has played any previous FPS can easily see there is major issues with aiming on controller.
You can tell the non-halo players from the halo players by how they describe the gunplay in the game. Halo is about positioning and teamwork more than individual gun skill. Sure it helps a ton to win 1v1s but it’s not the end all be all like in other popular FPS games.
Since when? Halo has historically been a game a skilled player can solo carry if necessary, hell, I solo carried constantly back in the days of Halo 3 and Halo Reach when my usual squad underperformed. Positioning and team shooting are important to Halo, yes, but Halo at its core has always rewarded individual skill very well.
Halo at the end of the day, is an Arena Shooter at its core. It requires thought and map control, however, map control can easily be obtained with a single skilled player who watches weapon/powerup spawns and holds the appropriate high ground.
As it stands, Halo Infinite does favour controllers. And, this is coming from a player who transitioned from console to PC some years back. I can swap between them on the fly, and the game absolutely was built for a controller and it shows. M+KB really only has the advantage at long ranges with precision weapons like the Sniper. Anywhere between mid to close, and especially close, controllers have a disproportionate advantage due to bullet magnetism.
The aim assist is not the problem, the bullet magnetism is the problem.
MnK has a MASSIVE advantage. When I play on my PC I destroy but I can barely go even on Series X, despite being a controller player for years in previous games. If you’re using controller you’re done for when every PC player can instantly 180 and lock on your head.
I play on a XSX with an elite v2 controller and regulalry drop 10-15 sometimes 20 kills a game…
Aim assist has been toned down from H5 and H4, its a good thing
M&K is great in BTB where there are long ranges for sniping and vehicles.
It is demonstrably worse in 4v4 with tighter maps and mid-close range fights. These fights are almost always determined with BR/Pistol/AR fights that require tracking. So in competitive M&K is going to consistently lose.
There is a reason more pros and streamers use controller in Halo.
You say this, and my best match I went 31 and 11, with 3 triple kills and multiple killing sprees.
I use controller. Perhaps try adapting.
I play on pc with a controller and do fine…
Whats your rank ? Youre playing ranked?
Its not necessarily about just doing fine, its about how the controls feel. They dont feel good.
make sure if ur using controller on pc u open steambig picture mode and when halo says press enter to start DO IT ON UR CONTROLLER or bye aim assist then thinks ur on keyboard if u do enter its a bug alot have noticed
None of your excellent points dispute that the streamer in OPs video is talking nonsens about aim assist being too strong.
Feels fine to me. Not sure what the issue is
You’ve clearly never played MnK on Halo. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
my rank is diamond 3 and i still face high ping and getting 4 shotted even though i have good positioning and good aim. 94k gridshot on aimlabs and 80k on strafetrack. So there is nothing to be said about my aim nor positioning. This is just shown by my rank.
