Story time…
I’m playing Halo Infinite today on Tuesday because the challenges reset and I’m determined to complete all the challenges in this game despite the awful state that it is in. I queue up into a CTF game on Bazaar in quick play matchmaking and I have a double XP boost activated. While going for the challenges in this game I’m also trying to get all the medals at least once. This game on CTF Bazaar I have a perfect opportunity to get the medal and I achieve it! The game is going smooth so far with some bath and forth and the game goes into overtime. During overtime out of nowhere the entire game starts lagging and freaking out and what do you know I lose connection to the server… or the server crashed… or something but I know for a fact that my connection was not the cause of it.
So what does this ultimately mean? All of my challenge progress during that game did not count. I also did not receive credit for the flag joust medal that I have been working ages on despite having a theater film showing proof and the theater stat/medal observer showing proof.
Can my double XP token be refunded? No.
Can the challenges unlocked during the game be progressed? Nah.
Can the Flag Joust medal I unlocked fairly be added to my account? Nope.
This game honestly goes out of its way to punish its players day in and day out and because of that I’m giving Halo Infinite the official reward of Most Unhealthy Game of the Year! Congrats you’ve earned it!

The 6 month season is a blessing in a way. Don’t kill yourself trying to max experience for items you’ll never use and a battlepass you’ll max well before the season is over.

Its the FOMO elements that are most “dangerous” in terms of the item being something you desire even without the item being really that “good”. I myself am fully aware of what Infinite is doing with FOMO, but I still fall for the trap occassionally. I havent spent any money on Infinite yet, but I almost fell for the FOMO trap with Warmaster - If you don’t buy it next week, there’s a strong chance you’ll never get it or it’ll only roll around for one additional week.
You miss out presumably forever if you dont max out your challenges, so what if you would want it later when its not available?
The only way to win, is not to play at all.
It’s in an unhealthy state that’s for sure.
Thanks everyone. I stopped playing after that happened to me. I think what frustrates me the most is that the game expects me to perform at peak performance at all times. So when trying to take a step back and go for personal goals within the game it turns into being a complete headache… and when finally thinking you can cross that personal goal off the list it turns out you really can’t and its just not a fun experience at all.
I know this topic is more in rant territory but I really hope 343 can comb through this and pull something constructive out of it all. I’ve lost my hope trying to provide tangible feedback for this game because I rarely see the light of any of it.
Our experiences with desync and crashing are very different. I’ve had crashing but whenever I try and use my internet after it is semi-crashed, and I’ve never had serverside issues.
